STUDIO 1080 HOLLYWOOD: Jetliner DTLA Views • Private Hillside Studio • King Bed
STUDIO 1080 HOLLYWOOD — Your Private Hillside Retreat Above Los Angeles
Perched in the Hollywood Hills above the city, Studio 1080 Hollywood is a thoughtfully designed private studio that feels more like a penthouse hideaway than a typical guest space.
From the moment you step inside—or out onto your private patio—you’re suspended between nature and city. It’s quiet, peaceful, and grounding… yet just minutes from the energy of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip.
The panoramic downtown Los Angeles view is something guests never forget. Often described as a “jetliner view,” you’re at a level where planes glide into the skyline as if you’re right there with them. Morning light, golden sunsets, and the sparkling city at night each bring a different mood to the space.
⸻
THE SPACE — SMALL, COMPLETE, AND INTENTIONAL
Studio 1080 was designed with a simple philosophy: everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Inspired by efficient, high-end city living (think a beautifully designed studio in a place like Singapore), every inch is purposeful. The result is a space that feels open, uncluttered, and complete—despite its compact footprint.
Guests consistently say: • “It feels bigger than it is.” • “Everything is exactly where it should be.” • “It just works.”
Features include: • Private entrance and fully self-contained studio • Dedicated patio with seating and sweeping city views • Comfortable bed with blackout shades for deep sleep • Strong Wi-Fi and workspace for remote work • Thoughtful amenities that make longer stays easy and comfortable
⸻
THE LOCATION — COUNTRY CALM IN THE HEART OF LOS ANGELES
A favorite way to describe this property:
It feels like you’re in the country… but you’re right in the middle of a major city.
Nestled in the historic Laurel Canyon / Hollywood Hills area, guests are surrounded by greenery, winding roads, and iconic Los Angeles character—while being just minutes from: • Hollywood Boulevard & the Chinese Theatre • Sunset Strip nightlife and restaurants • West Hollywood shopping and dining • Universal Studios & Studio City • Hiking trails and scenic overlooks
It’s easy to be in the middle of everything—and just as easy to return to a quiet, private retreat.
⸻
A SHORT WALK WITH BIG PAYOFF
Step outside and explore the neighborhood’s hillside streets, incredible views, and the unmistakable Laurel Canyon energy that has inspired artists and musicians for decades.
This isn’t about dense city blocks—it ’s about space, air, and perspective.
⸻
WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE DIFFERENT
This isn’t just a place to sleep.
Studio 1080 is designed for travelers who want an experience—something personal, memorable, and elevated from the typical rental.
Guests come here to: • Reset and recharge • Work remotely in a calm, inspiring environment • Celebrate a special trip to Los Angeles • Or simply enjoy the view and the feeling of being “above it all”
And the most consistent takeaway?
Every stay feels a little different.

This was our second stay at Studio 1080 and it lived up to all of our expectations all over again! The property is just special and we're already looking forward to the next time!
The view and location were absolutely amazing! The house was very clean, well decorated and comfortable. It was slightly smaller than I imagined, but it was certainly still comfortable for the two of us. It was just minutes from Hollywood and Sunset Blvd! The neighborhood felt very safe and quiet, and all the neighbors were extremely friendly.
Thank you, Eric, for a wonderful stay in Los Angeles! Your studio in the hills is unique and the patio is so great for starting the day and ending the evening comfortably. No hotel can offer that! We look forward to another great stay in your studio!
Location, view, host, accommodations, you can’t beat this if you want to be central and close to everything, but out of the noise and bustle of the city below (and have the most stellar view). Our stay was absolutely wonderful and we’d definitely stay here again. Check out the spooky lit up gargoyles up the street for a little extra surprise. Note that as cozy and wonderful as the bed nook is, there aren’t side tables directly next to where you sleep. There are little holders for your phone and shelves more towards your feet, but just something to note if you use any medical devices to sleep (like a CPAP machine), that you may have to get inventive/cuddle up with your device.
Eric communicated so well from start to finish. The place had so much style and Grace above and beyond the incredible views. It’s tucked away but so close to so much cool stuff from West Hollywood, The Hollywood Bowl, Mulholland Drive, etc. it’s technologically so facile, even for this Luddite. He’s really thought of everything, and staying in the former studio of a fashion icon added extra historical and coolness heft to the place. I would stay there again and again if back in LA area.
Gosh, where do I begin....
This was our first trip to LA and Suite 1080 exceeded our expectations to a degree that was hither to undreampt of!
1. The view of the city was absolutely STUNNING. There isn't a better view of LA than what you see from Suite 1080. From watching the sunrise over the city in the morning to watching the city light up at night.... absolutely amazing.
2. The technology was AMAZING. Fully automated accommodation. Tell Alexa what you need and she will do it. The presentation was amazing. You tell Alexa Hello and the shade goes up, Music starts and you're in Hollywood!
3. The location was AWESOME very close to everything someone visiting LA wants to see.
4. The furniture was very very comfortable and durable.
We absolutely LOVED this accommodation. Words can express.... it was like living out a dream!
Our stay at Studio 1080 was an absolute delight. There were so many thoughtful and luxurious details - heated bathroom floor and towel rack, heated toilet seat, espresso maker, incredibly soft bath towels and robes, a very comfy bed, etc etc. I could go on and on. In addition to this, the view is amazing, and the patio was so tranquil and relaxing. We relied on Uber during our trip for transportation, which was very easy, and although we were up in the hills, we were able to quickly get around to other places in the city. Don't hesitate to book Eric's property - you won't be disappointed!
Studio1080 is a delightful stay! Very efficient design with terrific luxuries, and the patio is cool, quiet, and peaceful - adds to the tranquility. I'd gladly stay here again!
We absolutely loved our time staying at this beautiful property in Laurel Canyon! Amazing Views overlooking the city. They have way too many Amenities to list! They have thought of everything. The host is also amazing, providing every detail you may ever need, and with excellent communication. We cannot wait to stay here again someday. Only issue we had was that it wasn't long enough! Great find!
What a wonderful spot in Laurel Canyon! The views are amazing! Eric’s attention to detail and the small things really made our stay special - espresso machine, phone chargers, heated bathroom floors, a handwritten welcome note, even a Dyson hair dryer and vacuum, plus so much more! You name it, Eric thought of it! The check in and out process was a breeze as well. Thank you for really taking the time to pay attention to what matters most to guests and providing a comfortable, clean, lovely studio!! Five stars!
From the moment we entered the property we knew that Studio 1080 was a very special place. The view, the patio, the interior design exceeded our expectations and truly provided us the perfect LA experience.
Eric took great care to all the details of the apartment and was helpful with our small challenges. A wonderful host in a magical place!
We would stay here again without hesitation. Thank you Eric for sharing your wonderful space and hospitality!
I can’t say enough about this property. Eric was wonderful. The check in and check out was a breeze. I’ve never stayed in such a clean place before. The technology is amazing!! The view is to die for. Location is close to all activities, yet far enough to be relaxing. I would highly recommend!!!!
We loved every minute of our stay in historic Laurel Canyon! This place had over the top amenities that absolutely enhanced our stay and the place could not have been cleaner.
One of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed in.
Loved the views of LA, “fancy” coffee, comfy bed (which my husband positively referred to as the “cocoon”), great kitchen, sound system, and cozy patio. The location was perfectly near the sights of Los Angeles while providing an “oasis”above the hustle bustle. Attended a concert at The Hollywood Bowl, ate and shopped at the Original Farmers Market, drove to Malibu, S. Monica, Rodeo Drive, Mulholland Drive, etc. Also highly recommend Pace, an Italian gem right in the neighborhood.
We would definitely stay here again. The host Eric is super responsive and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing place with us.
What a relaxing trip.
Breathtaking Tech-Savy Studio overlooking all of Los Angeles
Eric’s studio 1080, tucked away in the most breathtaking picturesque location in Laurel Canyon/ West Hollywood, went above and beyond my expectations. Eric was probably one of the best hosts I’ve ever had and I’m an avid renter! You can feel the love and care that went into the place, Eric literally thought of EVERYTHING! And the Alexa is too cool recommend everyone staying in the future to play around with that! He gave great recommendations, respected our space/privacy (felt like I was staying at a private bungalow not attached to someone’s home... that’s how private it felt! ESP. The private stairway in and out of the studio which is also designed and done to the finest degree.) overall this was above a 10/10 stay! The bathroom was huge and one of the best showers I’ve ever used. Little touches everywhere. And, of course, last but absolutely NOT least is the view which was breathtaking and magical! Whether you are enjoying the view inside or outside on your gorgeous private huge balcony it always brought a huge smile to my face. Am looking forward to coming back here next time I’m in the area! If you’re on the fence about where to stay... book this place! You will not regret it!

About the host
Your host
I’m a longtime Los Angeles resident, creative professional, and passionate hands-on builder. I purchased this home in 2000 and have spent the years since thoughtfully restoring and re-imagining it—much of it with my own hands—to bring it back to its current showplace status.
Studio 1080 Hollywood wasn’t added as an afterthought. I designed and built the apartment myself, with care, intention, and deep respect for the home’s history. I’m a firm believer in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and doing things properly—even when it takes longer. You’ll see that philosophy throughout the space, in both the visible details and the ones quietly working behind the scenes.
I’m also a bit of a tech geek and an enthusiastic early adopter. I love thoughtful technology when it genuinely improves comfort and ease, which is why Studio 1080 includes Alexa voice controls, automated blackout shades, touch-screen music selection, and an immersive Sonos sound system. Quite simply, I put into this apartment the things I’d want for myself.
My background is in storytelling, travel, and media, and that sensibility carries into how I host. I think about flow, light, comfort, and how a space makes you feel. Hosting isn’t transactional for me—it’s about creating an environment where people can truly exhale.
Studio 1080 Hollywood is guided by a simple idea: We provide the setting—a place with soul, patina, and handcrafted imperfection, where every detail carries a backstory. It’s up to you to bring the script up to date.
I’m attentive and responsive when needed, but I deeply respect privacy. Some guests want recommendations and conversation; others just want quiet, beauty, and the view. Both are equally welcome.
This home was created with heart, intention, and care. Thank you for being part of its ongoing story.
Why they chose this property
I bought this house in 2000 as a true fixer-upper and have spent the years since making it my personal DIY passion project—thoughtfully restoring, rebuilding, and re-imagining it into the showplace it is today. Turning something overlooked into something special has always mattered to me, and that same care and intention is woven into both the home and its setting.
I chose the Hollywood Hills—and Laurel Canyon specifically—because it offers one of the rarest combinations in Los Angeles: a sense of nature, history, and calm, paired with genuinely easy access to the entire city.
Laurel Canyon sits at a true crossroads of LA life. From here, it’s quick and straightforward to head “city side” into Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and the beaches. Going the other direction, you’re just as close to the San Fernando Valley and major studios such as Universal, Warner Bros., and Disney.
The canyon also carries a deep creative legacy. In the 1960s and 1970s, Laurel Canyon was the epicenter of the Los Angeles music scene, home to artists like Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and members of Crosby, Stills & Nash. That artistic, slightly bohemian spirit still defines the neighborhood today.
Day to day, Laurel Canyon feels like a small village tucked into the hills. One of its most beloved landmarks is the historic Canyon Country Store—a perfect stop for groceries, coffee, wine, or fresh deli sandwiches. Just beneath it is Pace, a cozy Italian restaurant and longtime local favorite.
What ultimately drew me here—and kept me here—is the balance. You’re surrounded by trees and winding roads, yet never far from world-class dining, entertainment, and culture. It feels connected without being hectic, grounded without being isolated. That balance is what makes Laurel Canyon such a special place to stay.
What makes this property unique
“I saw the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets of my life at Studio 1080 Hollywood. This is a spiritual experience. Just book it!” — Recent guest review
There are many wonderful places to stay in Los Angeles—but Studio 1080 Hollywood is defined by one thing above all else: THE VIEW.
Perched high above the city at 1,080 feet, the view from Studio 1080 is nonstop, ever-changing, and endlessly mesmerizing. From sunrise to sunset to the glow of city lights at night, Los Angeles unfolds beneath you in a way no hotel room can replicate. Every hour brings different light, color, weather, and energy.
Guests often tell me they plan to go out…and then don’t. They pour a glass of wine, settle in, and find themselves watching the city instead. The view becomes part of the experience—something you don’t just look at, but live with. THE VIEW is never the same twice.
Beyond the view, Studio 1080 carries a rare creative history. Beginning in 1956, this was the longtime home of groundbreaking fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, whose work challenged conventions around fashion, gender, and freedom of expression. The Studio 1080 space itself served as his at-home work studio—a place where ideas were imagined and refined.
During that same period, the home quietly played a role in early LGBTQ history. Small, private gatherings connected to the Mattachine Society—one of the first gay rights organizations in the United States—were held here at a time when such meetings had to remain discreet.
When Rudi passed away in 1985, his ashes were mixed with those of his longtime partner, Oreste Pucciani, and scattered from the back of the house—so their presence and creative energy are quite literally part of this place.
Today, Studio 1080 remains a private, calm, and intentionally curated retreat—offering perspective, inspiration, and a front-row seat to Los Angeles as it shifts from light to shadow, moment by moment.
