About the property

6-bedroom rustic ski lodge in heart of White Mountains on pristine lake

Trying to decide between the mountains and the lakes for your family vacation? Why choose? We are the only 6-bedroom vacation house in the White Mountains that is on a lake. We are just 12 minutes from Loon, and 20 minutes from Cannon and Waterville Valley ski areas.

Enjoy our architect-designed new kitchen. Beautiful, high-end stove, cabinets, brand-new dishwasher, large fridge and many special details make it a joy to use.

This classic mountain lodge is nestled in the White Mountains on a lovely lake. Six private bedrooms on two floors make this ideal for large families. Without leaving the property, you can swim, fish, boat, play volleyball and other lawn games, or have a bonfire. It's a short walk up the road to Hubbard Brook trails where you can hike along a rushing river with swimming holes and waterfalls. We are also close to four major ski areas; Loon mountain is less than 15 minutes away and Cannon Mountain, which has the largest vertical drop of any mountain in New Hampshire, is just 20 minutes door-to-door.

- Beach with dock

- Huge fieldstone fireplace

- Six private bedrooms on two floors, each with a queen or full-sized bed.

- Private hot tub

- Canoe, kayaks, and pedal boat with life jackets and paddles

- A 1.25 acre lot with a flat lawn for games, volleyball, soccer and badminton (plenty of lawn games in the shed)

- Giant deck overlooking lake and mountains

- Gas grill

- Fire pit in the yard

- Large driveway with room for plenty of cars

- Free wifi and premium cable channels (HBO, etc.)

- Bed linen and towels

Mirror Lake Lodge is located in the heart of the White Mountains, surrounded by hiking, waterfalls, ski mountains, and family attractions.

Time to ski mountains (with year-round attractions):

15 minutes to Loon

20 minutes to Cannon

25 minutes to Waterville Valley

35 minutes to Bretton Woods.

Several lovely towns are nearby with great restaurants, shopping, and family attractions. However, the beauty of Mirror Lake Lodge is that guests can park their car and leave it. Being directly on a lake and having a huge yard means no packing up the car every time someone wants to go for a swim. Go from the house to the yard to the water without lugging a bag. Guests can wake up and be right where they want to be. There are miles of trails along Mirror Lake and nearby Hubbard Brook.

The lodge is on beautiful Mirror Lake, which is spring fed and 30-feet deep, ideal for swimming, paddling and fishing. It is stocked with trout. The shore is mostly lined by National Forest. Motor boats are prohibited.

Besides skiing and snowboarding, there are many area attractions and activities. Guests can enjoy hikes in Franconia Notch and Welch Dickey. Even very young explorers can enjoy hiking to the Basin, the Flume, and Lost River. Rock climbers can easily get to nearby Rumney. Train buffs will enjoy the nearby Hobo Railroad, Lafayette Dining Car, and the steam engine at Clark's Trading Post - all in neighboring Lincoln, NH. Golfers can play at the Jack O'Lantern and Waterville Valley golf courses. We are also a short drive to Squam Lake Science Center and Waterville Valley. We have information on local businesses who provide unique experiences such as moose tours and standing paddle board lessons.

**Attention swimmers: Before we bought the lodge, we used to come to Mirror Lake just to swim because the temperature was perfect, the water is clear and and there are no motorboats. It's an ideal lake for swimming. Our four-year old loves to wade and play on the sandy beach in front of the house. Our beach gradually goes out to 10 feet deep in the middle of our cove. The middle of Mirror Lake is 30 feet deep.

The lodge is a 200+ year old converted barn with a giant stone fireplace. It is imbued with authentic charm and character. There is a large hot tub that is in a separate part of the building.

There is a beach, a dock, 3 kayaks, canoe and paddleboat that guests are free to use. Also on the grounds is a fire pit, picnic table, and a very large, flat lawn with flower gardens and playing fields.

Guests are happily surprised by the size of our yard. It is a flat and grassy acre at the edge of the lake. We have croquet, bocce ball, and other games in the shed. There's even a large rectangular area that we set up for volley ball or badminton.

There is an owner's unit on the bottom floor of the house that we use on weekends and vacations. We have a separate yard and entrance. If any issues arise when we are not there, guests are encouraged to contact our local caretaker who lives nearby.

We have a full kitchen equipped with a stove, microwave, toaster, griddle, coffee maker, pots and pans, and most items you would normally need to make a meal. There is also an outdoor gas grill and an outdoor dining area. Within 15 minutes are 2 large grocery stores, several organic food stores, a state liquor store, and specialty wine and beer shops.

If you wish to go out to eat, there are a wide range of good options from pizza and sugar shacks to microbreweries and fine dining. Please ask us for a list of local recommendations and favorites.

If the party is over 12, it is $25 more per person, per night - this includes children and day visitors. Please check with us in advance if you are planning on additional guests. The house and the house facilities are designed to handle a limited number of people (12). If you want to host a special event, make sure to discuss with us ahead of time so we can see if it is possible to make arrangements.

We do allow up to two well-behaved dogs. We do require an additional refundable damage deposit if you bring your furry companion.

About Laura

I grew up in New Hampshire and my parents have a cabin in neighboring Thorton. My husband, son and I and our dog Rudy live in Boston now. My husband is a general contractor and architect, and we look forward to maintaining and improving the lodge and property in the coming years.

Laura purchased this lodge in 2013

Why Laura chose North Woodstock

In the summers when we visited my parents, my husband and I used to come to Mirror Lake because it's the best place to swim in the area. The water is so clean and clear and the shore is so wooded. We had been looking for a place on a lake for years and when we saw the lodge was for sale, we knew that this was the place. We met with Annemarie, the previous owner, who was (and is) great. We were lucky to have her teach us how she had successfully run the lodge for the last 15 years. We plan to keep the spirit of Mirror Lake Lodge going as the perfect place for families and friends to make lifelong memories.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This property was perfect for what we wanted. We had 6 of us stay over two nights after my wedding. It provided privacy, was quiet, very clean and well appointed and had a great hot tub. We plan on coming back in the summer when we can do more exploring and use of the lake. The owners are amazing at communicating and were very helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet place to stay with lovely amenities.

great place and great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family very much enjoyed our time on Mirror Lake. The location is fantastic and the house is well set-up with plenty of sleeping spaces, a modern kitchen and a sizeable deck overlooking the lake. There also is a nice big lawn for playing sports - and a fire pit which we made ample use of for making S'mores! The owners and caretaker were very attentive and helpful.

Family celebration

  • 4 of 5

Our family reunion celebration including kids from 9 - 13 and adults from 30s to 70s - was wonderful. Lots to do in the good NH weather....swimming, fishing, visiting, BBQing, fun in kayaks and canoe. We hardly left the lake for sightseeing!! The hot tub was a great hit, too.

The ongoing renovations promise more indoor comfort in the future. The owner and the caretaker were easy to work with, and at the start of our stay the owners were on sight.

Good place for family fun and relaxation.

Great spot for a family gathering

  • 4 of 5

We had our family reunion at the house and had a great time. We really enjoyed having our morning coffee on the porch overlooking the water and watching the birds. We saw herons, scarlet tanagers, grey jays and even 2 resident bald eagles! The weather was perfect, so we took the kayaks, canoes and paddle boat every day and in the evenings some folks in our group partook of the hot tub.

The kitchen remodel was great and had many modern amenities like a dishwasher and dropped sink. However, the fridge leaked and the door handle fell off upon our arrival (while I realize the owners note that room temperature food in the fridge can cause the fridge to not work properly, the fridge leaked all week even after everything was frozen). Also, be aware that you'll need to bring or buy the following: paper towels, shampoo, soap and toilet paper (there were only 4 rolls supplied for 12 people).

While I was concerned about only having 1 shower, it worked out fine and we never seemed to run out of hot water. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and we had enough towels, however I would recommend bringing your own pillows as the house pillows have lost their fluff.

The house itself was quite private and we loved being right on the water and making s'mores around the campfire in the evenings. The owners and their children did show up at the end of the week - just something to be aware of.

Overall, we had a lovely time at the house and were easily able to get to many destinations like the Cog Railway, Flume Gorge and Clark's Trading Post. The grill was large and worked well, plenty of seating for everyone for dining, and we had most of our meals outside on the porch enjoying the lovely view. It was a nice place for a family reunion.

Owner's Response: Hi Carol, I'm so glad that you had a great time and got to see the magic of our local wildlife! Our resident Bald Eagle has had quite a summer and seems to be making appearances almost daily, along with the blue heron and loons. I apologize that the refrigerator was acting up. We had just put it in last year so that surprised it. We had if fixed, but went ahead and purchased a brand new one to replace it - and this time got the 5-year warranty. :-) Our new one is stainless steel, has an automatic ice maker and best of all, is significantly LARGER, which is nice for big groups. And thank you for your comments about the paper products and toiletries. I will put that in our email to let people know so they aren't surprised. You are correct - we provide only dish washer soap, dish soap and hand soap for the week. And we provide just enough toilet paper and paper towels to get people through the first couple of days. We do not provide shampoo, conditioner, etc. It seems like people have strong preferences about toiletries and bring their own. But I'll keep my eye out to see if other people ask for it. I hope we get to host you and your family another time The lodge is a great place for nature watching all year round!

Lake house

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4 th year staying at the lodge on Mirror lake. We were delighted to see all the wonderful upgrades in the kitchen and bathroom! The kitchen is huge with plenty of storage and counter space. It fit our group of 11 comfortably. The lake was pristine, clean and cool, complete with a resident Loon. We spent long days lounging in our floats, fishing and boating. For us the house and grounds are perfect. There is a large side lawn where we set up croquet and a badminton net all set up for use. Overall we love it. The luxury of having our own lake front is what we look forward to every summer! Thank you Laura and Kevin for sharing such a great place.

Spacious cabin in a tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time at the lodge on Mirror Lake. A group of us stayed over a weekend in February, and took advantage of the ideal location to do some ice fishing out on the lake. Laura made sure that we had everything we needed, and was very easy to contact. The lodge itself was very spacious, with plenty of room and beds for the seven of us. The fireplace (and the hot tub) made it an ideal winter get-away. Overall, a really nice place with great views of the lake.

North Woodstock is in the heart of the White Mountains. Just 15 minutes from Loon, one of the largest ski mountains in New Hampshire, and very close to state-owned Cannon Mountain and Waterville Valley (x-country and downhill), the area is ski and snowboard heaven. In the warmer months, there is hiking through miles of National and State Forests, including the Appalachian Trail. Within Woodstock are rivers, waterfalls and gorges to explore with short hikes. Kids and grownups will enjoy Clarks Trading Post and Polar Caves or a scenic rides at Hobo Railroad or the Lafayette Dining Train. Need a break? Great restaurants and bars in nearby Woodstock, Lincoln and Campton. Shopping your bag? Not far either from Garnet Hill outlet (my mom's favorite) in Franconia and adorable downtown Littleton, NH (check out Just L for mid-century modern furniture). Also close to outlet shopping centers in North Conway and Tilton.
