About Maureen Eyolfson

My husband and I had purchased the property in 1995 and had the loghouse built in 1998. We have enjoyed many summers with our family through the years. Currently reside in East Fort Garry, Winnipeg Manitoba.

Maureen Eyolfson purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Maureen Eyolfson chose Canada

My husband is originally from Traverse Bay, Manitoba and has very fond memories of the area.

What makes this cottage unique

The property is very unique in many ways. The view of the lake is amazing from the lower and upper level decks. The natural environment with the secluded forestry and privacy which includes a private road onto this property is like no other in the area!

The Loghouse was built as a retirement home and therefore has a high standard of living in comparison to a cottage or a cabin. The house offers stunning views with the rustic natural wood throughout and still provides comforts of a quality home!

A wonderfully spacious yet cozy feeling cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for three nights and had a great time. When we arrived the cabin was very clean and well maintained. There were embers in the fireplace indicating someone had been out earlier that day to warm the cabin for our arrival. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cookware, there were ample clean towels provided in the bathrooms, and enough firewood provided for our entire stay. I stayed in the bedroom with the king bed which I found to be very comfortable. The cabin provides lots of space both in the bedrooms and common areas, yet maintains a cozy cabin feel due to the wood work.

We went on some winter walks in the surrounding area. We setup an ice fishing shack out on the ice in front of the cabin. We were successful in catching fish both days we spent in the shack. There are also great snowmobile trails and cross-country skiing trails in the area. There is a general store nearby (5 minutes) for any forgotten items as well as alcohol sales.

The owner of the cabin was easy to deal with through email. All my questions were answered in a timely manner and my damage deposit was returned to me one day after our rental.

Overall, this was a great experience.

I contacted Maureen for a 4 night stay and the cabin was exactly as she described and pictured. She was very professional and honest about what we could expect as well as her expectations. The cabin was identical to the pictures and it went beyond our expectations. We all had a great time and will return again.

LOVED Traverse Bay Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10 enjoyed a totally delightful Christmas Season in this spacious, beautiful, well-stocked cottage, where the wood stove kept us cozy and warm. The bedrooms are very spacious and quite comfortably slept our family. The 2 bathrooms were much appreciated (and used), with a fam of 10! The large freezer and fridge also came in very handy to store our mounds of food! The kitchen is large, however we would have appreciated a larger table to seat 10 people, but made do with extra seating in the LR. We so much enjoyed the picturesque views of the winter wonderland outdoors, and had much fun there also, building a quinzhee, playing street hockey, going for long walks enjoying the gorgeous scenery, and snowmobiling on the trails nearby that were also surrounded by breathtaking scenery! The only thing we missed, was not having access to the hot tub, which would have been very much enjoyed after our outdoor activities! All in all, we LOVED our family time at Traverse Bay Cottage!

Great Escape!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights, two adults and two dogs. We had some family come to visit and everyone had an amazing time, cannot wait to rent again. The cabin is beautiful and is surrounded by beauty. It has everything you need plus more. Very spacious, the view is incredible and the hot tub was a nice feature too. The contact with the owners went very well too could not have asked for a better experience.

Family Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This is a very roomy and comfortable well equipped cabin. There was plenty of space for our party of eight, which included two children. The spacious front lawn was perfect for the children (and others) to play various games. It was very quiet and peaceful as the cabin is some distance from the access road. There are stores and restaurants within easy reach. The owner was very helpful with providing lots of information about the property and the rental arrangements were promptly dealt with. No doubt that this is one of the finest properties in the area. Highly recommended.

Time to Relax

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the cabin for our 35th wedding anniversary this year. We had a lovely week of just relaxation. It was the first time our car has been parked for a week and not started once. We had everything we needed. The weather was a bit rainy for a couple of days, but the cabin is so comfy and homey that it didn't matter. We like to take our dogs with us on vacation, so really appreciated the ability to do that, and they both loved the lake. The upper deck was great for enjoying a little bit of sun, while the screened porch was great for morning coffee and watching the sun rise over the lake. Hot tubs in the evening were a nice way to end the day, and we were even treated to the Northern Lights one night. We had our family come out and join us on the weekend and had plenty of room for everyone to relax. We actually had to change our dates for our visit, but the owners were extremely helpful with everything. I highly recommend this lovely quiet peaceful place.
