About Leuveda Garner
I am a native Savannahian. As a child, I didn’t have a clue about how special it was to walk, ride my bike and skate in Savannah's beautiful parks and squares, plus spend carefree, glorious summer days building sand castles, swimming and frolicking in the ocean at Tybee. As an adult, I lived and worked all over the country, but there was no place like home – especially Tybee Island. My husband Ron and I built our “forever” home here in 1996, and I finally returned after 30 years.
Why Leuveda Garner chose Tybee Island
Tybee means “salt” to Native Americans, but the name of this low-key seaside resort now brings to mind words such as “sun”, “surf” and “fun”. Located 18 miles east of Savannah, this small barrier island boasts a wide, 3-mile long beach that’s backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, people-watching and frolicking in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean, people watching and fishing. Although vacationers are lured to Tybee mainly because of what it provides in the way of recreation and relaxation, those with a love of history won’t be disappointed. Tybee offers: Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773), an intriguing museum, and Fort Pulaski National Monument which is just west of the island on Hwy 80. While Tybee is a resort town complete with a full range of restaurants, modern hotels and motels, luxurious condominiums, and quaint inns and cottages, it’s also a residential area stocked with its share of colorful characters. It’s an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south.

Twin Palms Cottage Tybee Island.
The cottage was wonderful! Great location, charming and very clean.
The cottage was perfectly decorated with many thoughtful details and so comfortable to relax in. It was a short bike ride to the beach, pier and many nearby restaurants including AJ's, Sting Rays, Bernie's Oyster House, Sunrise Restaurant and more. Going to the Lighthouse was an easy bike ride away. Going to the Crab Shack did require an Uber drive. Just around the corner on the same road to AJ's take the first left to a super close beach where you can watch amazing sunsets on the river. We discovered this little beach our last night there...better late than never. It is so close you can nearly see the turnoff to the beach from our porch. On the morning of our departure we experienced the SCAD sand art competition on the beach. It was the perfect way to end our stay.
Our trip to Tybee Island was a very personal trip to celebrate my 50th birthday. My parents lived on Tybee back in 1969 when it was still called Savannah Beach. I saw my first home where we lived, it's still there on 2nd Ave! We left when I was 3 1/2 months old and this is my first time back. It was truly a bucket list experience and lived up to everything I hoped it would be. I love Tybee Island! It is absolutely charming. Thank you Leuveda and Ron for sharing your beautiful cottage with us!
Our second stay
This is one of the most admired cottages on Tybee. It is within walking distance to all necessities and beaches on the south end. The owner hosts are gracious and helpful. The cottage is so perfect, the owners stay in it when their children visit and use the larger main house! It is romantic, quiet, and just the right amount of whimsy.
Quaint, darling cottage!
This cottage was perfect for my needs. It was very clean and comfortable. Everything you need is provided including a few snacks! The bath towels were also divine.
Tybee Island Cottage
Very nice cottage. Clean and well decorated. Very homey. Walking distance to beach, river and a lot of restaurants. Local neighbors were very friendly. Ron and Leuveda were very hospitable, helpful and friendly but also gave us our space. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. Thank you, Rick and Cathy
Twin Palm Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at Twin Palms. The cottage was clean, nicely decorated and very homey. Close to the river, beach and restaurants. Nice to be able to walk to so many places. You and Ron were so nice and so were all of the people on the island. We will definitely be back. Thank you! Rick and Cathy
