Overview

About the property

Close To Beach, Pavilion, Restaurants, Shops, Back River Fishing Pier, Kayaking.

Twin Palms Cottage, on the southern end of Tybee Island, is a short walk to the beach, pavilion, popular restaurants, shops, Back River beach and fishing pier. A small, charming, authentic cottage for serious cottage lovers, it's a place to relax, unwind and escape to a slower time.

This enchanting one-bedroom cottage is nestled under twin palms, their fronds rustling in the summer breeze. It is just steps away to the beautiful Back River beach, barefoot strolls in the sand, and breathtaking sunsets. It represents the classic guest cottage with French doors, painted wood floors, bead board walls, wicker and vintage furnishings.

You are greeted by a cheerful screened porch with a swing and comfortable sitting area. Here you can enjoy your morning coffee, an afternoon drink, or read late into the lazy summer nights. It's also a fun place to watch the kayakers and paddle boarders go by as they head across the street to Alley 3, the Back River launch and beach area (only 175 steps away).

When you open the French doors you are immediately inspired by the cottage's attractiveness and delightful personality. Inside you find a comfortable queen bed, clothed in layers of fresh cotton and lace, waiting to enfold you after an exhilarating day at the beach or on the river.

You will certainly enjoy the kitchenette area, with its table for four, and collection of antique dishware for your everyday use. The kitchenette also includes a sink, small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. To top it off, a continental breakfast is provided.

Mary Kay Andrews, New York Times bestselling author, chose this adorable cottage as a haven where she penned several of her books at this same kitchen table before she purchased two Tybee cottages of her own!

The large charming bathroom includes an English washstand, dressing area, and a claw foot tub with shower, although the enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water is usually preferred to wash that sand and salt away!

Guests also enjoy a large covered outdoor space with abundant seating, including a swing large enough for an afternoon nap, plus a dining area, gas grill, and bicycle use. Once your car is parked, you can walk or ride a bike to almost everything, including the grocery store.

Linens, high speed wireless internet, and flat screen tv are provided.

Twin Palms Cottage (formerly Garner Cottage) is located in a quiet residential area on the south end of the island where Fifth and Tybrisia meet Chatham Avenue. The owners live on site.

About Leuveda Garner

I am a native Savannahian. As a child, I didn’t have a clue about how special it was to walk, ride my bike and skate in Savannah's beautiful parks and squares, plus spend carefree, glorious summer days building sand castles, swimming and frolicking in the ocean at Tybee.

As an adult, I lived and worked all over the country, but there was no place like home – especially Tybee Island. My husband Ron and I built our “forever” home here in 1996, and I finally returned after 30 years.

Why Leuveda Garner chose Coastal

Tybee means “salt” to Native Americans, but the name of this low-key seaside resort now brings to mind words such as “sun”, “surf” and “fun”. Located 18 miles east of Savannah, this small barrier island boasts a wide, 3-mile long beach that’s backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, people-watching and frolicking in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean, people watching and fishing.

Although vacationers are lured to Tybee mainly because of what it provides in the way of recreation and relaxation, those with a love of history won’t be disappointed. Tybee offers: Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773), an intriguing museum, and Fort Pulaski National Monument which is just west of the island on Hwy 80.

While Tybee is a resort town complete with a full range of restaurants, modern hotels and motels, luxurious condominiums, and quaint inns and cottages, it’s also a residential area stocked with its share of colorful characters. It’s an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south.

Southern Hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is a perfect get away! The attention to detail is everywhere you look in this cottage. The Garner's are perfect host. Leuveda and Ron have put their hearts into creating this escape. Much more than a hotel room with the personal touches of the Garner's. Very close walk to beach, back river and town. Very quite area. Owners live in a beautiful home next store. Very nice private shower outside also available. A fifteen minute drive to the beautiful city of Savanah and an hour and a half to Beaufort a cute little mini Savanah. Tybee is easy to get around. You can tavel easily everywhere from this cottage and coming back to it is fun each time you open the door. We hope to come back soon. Thank you Garner's for sharing your Southern hospitality with us!

Exactly what we needed

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was exactly as pictured...quaint, cozy and we took a deep breath when we stepped inside. The available bikes were our transportation the entire weekend and it was great! Close to the beach and a perfect place to relax on the porch. We can't wait to come back. Ron and Leuveda were super!

Delightful studio cottage in lovely neighbourhood a few steps from beach & shops

  • 5 of 5

We spent 6 nights in the cottage and had a wonderful stay. The cottage is fully equipped, including outdoor sitting and eating area, barbecue and two bicycles for touring around the island. It is in a quiet neighbourhood yet the nearest beach access is across the road. The main beach is only a few minutes away, as are the shops and restaurants. We were able to park our car and travel on foot or by bicycle most of the tome.

The owners live in the large house on the lot and are available should there be any issues.

Favourite spot was the reading chair in the screened in front porch. A great place to relax at the end of the day as the sun goes down.

Would highly recommend it for a single traveller or couple and hope to be back some day soon.

Romantic retreat

  • 5 of 5

The attention to detail, the graciousness and responsiveness of both host and hostess illustrates the very best of southern hospitality.

Be sure to read the author's books written in the cottage.

The cottage is meticulous in its charming and carefully thought out design and decor.

We enjoyed our 30 day stay very much.

would stay here again!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. It looked just like the pictures and was exactly as we were expecting from what we saw on VRBO. We had no issues whatsoever with the booking process and Garners are trustworthy. The cottage is romantic and perfect for the feel of Tybee and Savannah.
