Overview

About the property

Close To Beach, Pavilion, Restaurants, Shops, Back River Fishing Pier, Kayaking.

Twin Palms Cottage, on the southern end of Tybee Island, is a short walk to the beach, pavilion, popular restaurants, shops, Back River beach and fishing pier. A small, charming, authentic cottage for serious cottage lovers, it's a place to relax, unwind and escape to a slower time.

This enchanting one-bedroom cottage is nestled under twin palms, their fronds rustling in the summer breeze. It is just steps away to the beautiful Back River beach, barefoot strolls in the sand, and breathtaking sunsets. It represents the classic guest cottage with French doors, painted wood floors, bead board walls, wicker and vintage furnishings.

You are greeted by a cheerful screened porch with a swing and comfortable sitting area. Here you can enjoy your morning coffee, an afternoon drink, or read late into the lazy summer nights. It's also a fun place to watch the kayakers and paddle boarders go by as they head across the street to Alley 3, the Back River launch and beach area (only 175 steps away).

When you open the French doors you are immediately inspired by the cottage's attractiveness and delightful personality. Inside you find a comfortable queen bed, clothed in layers of fresh cotton and lace, waiting to enfold you after an exhilarating day at the beach or on the river.

You will certainly enjoy the kitchenette area, with its table for four, and collection of antique dishware for your everyday use. The kitchenette also includes a sink, small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. To top it off, a continental breakfast is provided.

Mary Kay Andrews, New York Times bestselling author, chose this adorable cottage as a haven where she penned several of her books at this same kitchen table before she purchased two Tybee cottages of her own!

The large charming bathroom includes an English washstand, dressing area, and a claw foot tub with shower, although the enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water is usually preferred to wash that sand and salt away!

Guests also enjoy a large covered outdoor space with abundant seating, including a swing large enough for an afternoon nap, plus a dining area, gas grill, and bicycle use. Once your car is parked, you can walk or ride a bike to almost everything, including the grocery store.

Linens, high speed wireless internet, and flat screen tv are provided.

Twin Palms Cottage (formerly Garner Cottage) is located in a quiet residential area on the south end of the island where Fifth and Tybrisia meet Chatham Avenue. The owners live on site.

About Leuveda Garner

I am a native Savannahian. As a child, I didn’t have a clue about how special it was to walk, ride my bike and skate in Savannah's beautiful parks and squares, plus spend carefree, glorious summer days building sand castles, swimming and frolicking in the ocean at Tybee.

As an adult, I lived and worked all over the country, but there was no place like home – especially Tybee Island. My husband Ron and I built our “forever” home here in 1996, and I finally returned after 30 years.

Why Leuveda Garner chose Coastal

Tybee means “salt” to Native Americans, but the name of this low-key seaside resort now brings to mind words such as “sun”, “surf” and “fun”. Located 18 miles east of Savannah, this small barrier island boasts a wide, 3-mile long beach that’s backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, people-watching and frolicking in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean, people watching and fishing.

Although vacationers are lured to Tybee mainly because of what it provides in the way of recreation and relaxation, those with a love of history won’t be disappointed. Tybee offers: Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773), an intriguing museum, and Fort Pulaski National Monument which is just west of the island on Hwy 80.

While Tybee is a resort town complete with a full range of restaurants, modern hotels and motels, luxurious condominiums, and quaint inns and cottages, it’s also a residential area stocked with its share of colorful characters. It’s an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south.

A great place to stay on Tybee Island

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just as described. It was very clean and furnished with everything we needed. This rental is ideal for couples looking for a relaxing getaway. Ron and Lueveda are very hospitable and made sure our stay was enjoyable. It's a short walk to the beach from the cottage. Beach chairs, umbrella, and a beach cart were provided with the rental. There are 2 breakfast places within walking distance and AJ Dockside restaurant is also a short walk away. Tybee Island has a relaxed atmosphere. You are a 30 minute drive into the Savannah historic district. Be sure to take one of the trolley tours. The drivers provide information and background that make the history come alive. We hope to return to Twin Palms cottage for another visit.

A Tybee Treasure.......

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time to Tybee Island for my husband and me and our second stay at Twin Palms Cottage. We're hooked and will stay nowhere else! Ron and Leuveda are amazing and gracious hosts, always available to answer questions or make suggestions. A stay in their beautiful, spotless cottage is a step back in time. From the porch swing, to the vintage dishware, to the claw foot tub, to the plush linens and comfy bed, to the white painted floors, and the tin kitchen table, everything draws you in and begs you to slow your pace and relax a spell. We truly could have stayed in the cottage and gone nowhere else........It is that delightful!

We highly recommend Twin Palms Cottage and will be returning ourselves for a third stay in Summer 2018!!

Comfortable and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We found the cottage to be comfortable, clean, and perfect for the relaxing time away we needed. Easy walk or bike to the beach, and the screened in porch was perfect for morning coffee and an after beach cocktail. Leuveda and Ron were extremely gracious and friendly hosts, helping us to enjoy our vacation. We would very much recommend Twin Palms for a much needed getaway from everyday life.

I absolutely loved this tiny cottage. It was perfect for me.

  • 5 of 5

My only suggestion would be to clean up the garage area. It wasn't ready for people to hang out there. It would be a great space if cleaned up a bit. The outdoor shower is heavenly. It was so relaxing. The bed and linens are perfect. I slept so well. The screened in porch is also great. Perfect for morning coffee. If you are looking for a tiny house feel this is it.

Twin Palms is pristine with great attention to detail, perfect location, great porch!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed Twim Palms and the location on Tybee Island. We rode the bikes provided all over the island, enjoyed kayaking, walking the beaches, learning the history of the Tybee Lighthouse and Fort Pulaski, and just relaxing. Perfect experience, owners are super helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back!

Take a step back in time with modern amenities. Great location feels like you are away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

Charming ambiance, instantly relaxing. Location lets you feel like you are away from it all, yet you are minutes from the beach, restaurants, and shopping. We had a lovely stay and our hosts we're very helpful with any questions we had. We had a wonderful time and look forward to coming back in the future. Highly recommended for your visit to Tybee Island/Savannah.

4th of July fireworks off the Pier at the beach were awesome!
