The charming, waterfront town of Rerik is located in Germany's Rostock district, right on the Baltic Sea. A popular destination for German travelers, Rerik and the surrounding area is gaining traction with travelers from all over the place, making this spot feel like a bit of a hidden gem. Come explore the area, and spend your days walking along the seaside promenade, or biking along the cycling paths. Book a Rerik vacation rental steps from the beach, or opt for a charming cottage among your new neighbors. You're likely to feel like a true local in no time.
Relax close to home, or branch out and explore
Outside of its beaches, parks, and nature preserves, Rerik doesn't have a ton to offer in the way of museums, but the town's Heimatmuseum is definitely worth a stop if the area's regional history is of interest. For another lesson in Rerik's past, visit the ornate and colorfully painted Sankt Johannes Kirche church. Architecture buffs will spot a few stunning examples of German style and construction, thanks to the castles, manor houses, and intact medieval towns dotted around the area. Certainly take the time from your Rerik vacation rental to get out and explore!
When the sun is shining, Rerik comes alive
Like much of Germany's northern coast, Rerik is most attractive when the sun is shining, thanks to its charming seafront that comes alive in warm weather. Book your visit in May through September, and prepare to enjoy all region has to offer. This does mean slightly higher prices in the summer, as it's the peak season, but it can be worth it to fully enjoy the real Rerik experience. German winters can be frigid and gray, but exploring Rerik in this weather also offers a true glimpse into the local culture.
You may just feel like the only person in Germany
Rerik sits on the Wustrow peninsula, with sandy beaches that jut out into the Baltic Sea. Just across a narrow strait and along the Kroy bay lies Kieler Ort, a small, forested island that is also part of the Wustrow nature reserve. The entire area is largely uninhabited, making for excellent hiking, biking, and wildlife spotting. Whether you head out onto the sea for a day of fishing, swimming, and snorkeling, or stay closer to home, you're likely to enjoy all the natural beauty that Rerik and the surrounding area has to offer.
