Rerik sits on the Wustrow peninsula, with sandy beaches that jut out into the Baltic Sea. Just across a narrow strait and along the Kroy bay lies Kieler Ort, a small, forested island that is also part of the Wustrow nature reserve. The entire area is largely uninhabited, making for excellent hiking, biking, and wildlife spotting.
