About the property

Ozarks Mountain Cabin Sleeps 17

If you're looking to get away from it all, secluded, rustic, calm and peaceful Cave Creek Cabin is the right vacation rental for you! Click the video button just inside the photo above to tour Arkansas' best kept secret - our authentic 1840's hand-hewn log cabin in the Ozark mountains!

Ideal for family reunions and events, retreats, romantic weekends, honeymoons, elk and turkey hunts, float trips and hiking or mountain biking; this 2,600 square foot ridge-top cabin overlooks 125 acres of elk habitat. The acreage is a Certified Forest Stewardship property with 3/8 mile of year-round creek nestled in a valley setting below beautiful limestone cliffs. We're surrounded by the Gene Rush Wildlife Management Area and are only five miles from the Carver Input on the Buffalo National River, known for excellent canoeing and float trips.

Mountain breezes, rushing creeks and great views abound here. Build memories that will last a lifetime around the massive fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Moved from Kentucky to this secluded spot, restored and modernized for vacation fun, the large, yet cozy cabin sleeps 17. We feature a full walkout basement, fully equipped kitchen, huge front porch and patio with picnic tables and porch swing. There are two bedrooms, a loft and a walkout basement "bunkhouse," a great hangout for the kids. For your comfort and convenience there are two full baths and a laundry room.

When you are ready for some activity, there is a swimmin' hole, or fish the stream for small mouth bass and perch. Hiking, rock climbing, cave exploring, mountain biking, and magnificent star gazing are available right on the property. The bird and wildlife watching is great too! You may even see a bald eagle at the right time of year. Just look out the windows to watch deer graze by the barn almost every day. Grab your binoculars and take an early morning walk on the loop road around the cabin, returning to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch.

The remote solitude here draws people to Cave Creek, but cell phone reception is good so you can stay in touch. If you can get them to come inside, or if a rainy day restricts outdoor fun, keep the kids happy with board games, puzzles and videos. There is no cable, so bring the kid's favorites or watch some of our great collection of movies and see the cabin building process caught on "film" too. We have a variety of paperback books for those who like a good read. In cooler months, relax in front of the crackling fireplace or snooze in the "bunkhouse" lounger and slow down for a moment at Cave Creek Cabin.

You are minutes from Sam's Throne for a fine hike. Richland Creek, Hurricane River Cave and Mystic Caverns are not far away. Brochures and business cards at the cabin will put you in touch with opportunities for horseback riding, zip-lining and more! We're ideally situated near the middle river input at Carver (5 miles.) Outfitters for Buffalo River floats are at St. Joe (34 miles,) Jasper (24 miles) and Ponca (38 miles.) Floating is seasonal and rain dependent, but a short drive to reach your outfitter is a great way to experience the beauty of Newton County and enjoy some of the best vistas Arkansas has to offer.

About Paula Dominique

I'm Jeff Formica, the owner of Cave Creek Cabin. One of my early work experiences was in Arkansas, and I fell in love! No matter where future jobs took me, I always came back to Newton County for vacations, and I always searched for a property I could purchase. The acreage here at Harmony Acres was perfect and I bought it in 1986! It took until 2000 to find the right location for a cabin, but once I did, Cave Creek Cabin came together - a dream come true!

Paula Dominique purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Paula Dominique chose Arkansas

The acreage where the cabin sits was entirely wooded. Paula, my manager, and I walked the property and this ridge top location is where we thought the cabin would have the best view and be most accessible. But there was no cabin! E-bay to the rescue! This beautiful old 1840's-era dogtrot cabin was originally in KY. In 2000, I purchased the entire thing, including the stone chimney, and had it hauled here on two 18-wheelers. All the pieces and parts were carefully numbered. Our neighbor across the next ridge, Wendel Norton, and his crew restored and glorified it to the cabin you experience today. You might enjoy the video we've provided of the hauling and building process.

What makes this cabin unique

I think you'll agree it was a good decision! The view of the mountains over coffee on the front porch says it all. Burdens are lifted, peace and calm reign, and the soul is restored at Cave Creek Cabin. As participants in the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program, my wife, Angie, and I are honored to be stewards of the forest, helping preserve the watershed of the Buffalo to ensure that Cave Creek remains a sanctuary/habitat for elk, deer, turkey, eagles and other wildlife. We hope you too find sanctuary here and come back often.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our family loved our week at Cave Creek Cabin. The cabin was lovely and welcoming after a long drive. The creek was great - the kids fshed and swam and the two labs swam and played - we spent a lot of time at the creek. We never found the caves - I wish you had directions on where to hike to get there. Maybe they are easier to see in the fall/winter when the brush is less. We made a bonfire outside every night. The weather was pefect - even the few brief late afternoon storms. We are going home sunburned, tick bit and chigger covered, but we will miss it very much. Maybe not the chiggers.

We suggest you gather your own wood for the firepit. This helps us keep the property cleared of fallen wood. We do not provide any work tools, lanterns, flashlights or candles for emergencies. We do provide emergency drinking water in case storms cause the electric water pump to fail. Repairs by the electric company usually take a couple hours. Please let us know if the pump doesn't come back to life within a reasonable time frame.

Beautiful and very private.

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for privacy and nature... This is it. The cabin was larger than I expected. Very clean. Arrival and departure instructions were very clear. My husband, two teens and myself truly enjoyed our stay. They loved exploring, the deer, fox, fires at night and the creek. I loved that our Sprint service didn't work there ... Which allowed no distractions. Okay... Maybe my husband snuck a verizon wifi hotspot in, which did work...but the kids didn't know! We used it at night to plan area activities. The cabin was well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, linens, etc... We stayed during a cold spell in March so the trees were not blocking our views, leaves had not come in yet. I am so glad that the owner has shared this piece of heaven with our family and other visitors.

Wonderful Family Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful family get-a-way. We brought our children and grandchildren - total of 18 of us to this secluded home up in the Ozark Mountains for the New Year holiday. Everyone truly enjoyed the property from the house down to the creek. Lots of exploring and hiking on the property. Loved the fire pit, fire place and the beautiful view from the kitchen window. The drive to the cabin was an experience in itself. Thank you Paula for the very specific instructions. We are already talking about going back again for New Year's 2018.

Awesome cabin & location

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and property is exactly what we wanted. It is secluded and has awesome views of the mountain, stars and moon. Our fur babies thought it was pretty awesome too. We did see eagles, lots of deer, and a road runner! There is a path straight in front of the cabin that goes to the cliff over looking the creek and mountains, but be careful, it is a BIG drop down, but an great view!!! We came at night so GPS coordinates is a MUST. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Cave Creek Cabin Adventure 2016

  • 5 of 5

The cabin abd location was outstanding! If we had not used GPS we would have got lost! The journey was a Blast to get there. Watching the eagles around the valley below was so awesome !!! We caught a few small mouth bass in the creek below the cabin and saw more eagles. Over all I enjoyed the experience very much!!

Owner's Response: How were those small mouth? Did you fry them up? Love some good fresh bass! Hopefully, more guests will remember to bring their fishing poles with them - Cave Creek can be a day's adventure in itself here at the cabin.

Truely a place to escape city life!

  • 5 of 5

Loved being away from it all! With that being said if you want to book this cabin, which I highly recommend, make sure you want to be away from everything! The closest town with anything in it is Jasper which is about a 45 minute drive. We loved being able to look out the kitchen window for the sunrise. One of my favorite things about the cabin itself, were the windows. There is also a fire pit to have a fire outside which we just loved. Very lovely cabin and a lot of exploring can be done on the property. The creek was low when we went but it was still great to be able to walk down the creek and explore. We had to walk in the creek actually, water came waist deep at time, it was great. We saw plenty of deer and fawns. Had a very great weekend there.

Owner's Response: I love watching the deer myself, Adelita, and I've done my share of wading in the creek. Hope you'll come back soon!

Nearest Point of Interest
Cave Creek Cabin

Newton County is known as the home of the 'Arkansas Grand Canyon.' You'll find an abundance of mountains, bluffs and deep valleys and the superb Buffalo National River. Elk have been imported into the county and are thriving. The acreage surrounding Cave Creek Cabin has been developed to attract elk, dove and turkey. Deer frequent the property as well, and we've seen bald eagles soar down the valley at eye level. We've seen C-130's do the same thing from time to time, flying from the Air Force Base in Jacksonville, AR. However, most of the time it is quiet, serene and secluded here on our 125 acres. Bring your binoculars, hiking boots and camera, and plan to spend some time in the great outdoors. Sam's Throne is nearby, and so is Hurricane River Cave. Don't forget to book a float trip in season! Travel to Ponca for some zip lining. Try the Low Gap Cafe for all that's 'gourmet' in these hills.
