The 'Benjamin Darling House' was (re)constructed in the early 1700s from timbers of a house that was built following an original Native American land-tract purchase in 1661 near Plymouth. The house was moved to its present East Dennis location in the 1960s and has been completely modernized. Two additions later, the 2,600 sq.ft. home offers unique charm and provenance.
This 4 bedroom, 3 bath property, situated on 2 acres of privacy, is located exactly 1 mile from the beach; an easy walk through a quaint Cape Cod village still retaining many of its existing late 1700s houses. Northside Sesuit Marina is adjacent to the beach which rents jet skis and boats as well as provides charter fishing and parasail expeditions. A small pond and “herring run”, and “ancient” cemetery (dating back to the 1600s) abuts the property. The hamlet of East Dennis and immediate surrounds offer some of the nicest and most pristine beaches on Cape Cod Bay without the traffic and congestion, but accessible to everything the Cape offers.
(East) Dennis is “mid-Cape” and on the Bay side. The house is located close to Rte 6A which is known for its art and antique galley’s, restaurants and theaters. This is a great access point for exploring the rest of the Cape (both shores). The Bay side is shallow in spots and one can walk out almost a mile on the flats (the case with the closest beach). The Ocean side (20 min away) has large waves, and some spots up toward the Nat’l Seashore, have ~ 200-ft cliffs.
The house has 4 bedrooms (three bedrooms have 2 twin beds each) and 3 full bathrooms. With ancient exposed timbers and beams, the house has all the modern conveniences. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms separated by a bathroom.
This house was in a great location and was one mile from the beach. The house was well maintained and clean. I was a little nervous about not bringing our own sheets or bath towels but the ones provided were like new. It ended up being a nice convenience not having to pack that stuff. The owner was easy to communicate with and always promptly responded to inquiries. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family looking for a nice spacious house to stay in.
If you want a taste of old cape cod this is the place for you.You will find peace and tranquility while being close to everything.
We had a great stay and found the house to be charming and full of so many interesting details. It was well stocked with everything we needed and set back enough so that it felt like we were in our own little world. Being there for the 4th of July made for a great base for family to stop by and visit. It felt like a home away from home.
The owner was very helpful and gave us some good ideas of where to eat and what to do in the area.
Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice property to stay at that is a relatively close to the beach. We're big fans of Cold Storage Beach now! If you stay here you're sure to enjoy your time in Dennis.
I was able to rent this home last minute as a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday. History and modern features were perfectly melded. We have 5 children age range 18-10. The bedroom setup was ideal for our situation - kids loved it plus all were airconditioned. Great master suite - huge bathroom. All the bathrooms were very nice. the house was fully equipped with pretty much everything you could think of - very nice towels & linens, every possible appliance, plate, bowl, utensil and glass you could need. Extra Paper products stored away as well for our use. There were beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, toys & a bike*. Having the washer/dryer was a big plus too. Plenty of room for everyone to hang out in one spot or disappear somewhere alone. Our 2 youngest boys spent their downtime exploring the property and had a blast hanging outside - plus with virtually no neighbors i didn't have to worry about anyone being too loud while they played. Sesuit Harbor/Marina is right up the road so it was very easy for my husband and the 2 oldest to hire and take a fishing charter for a day. while they did that, the rest of us went to Cold Storage Beach -private - it was a little crowded on the weekend, but still plenty of room - because you need a sticker & the small lot fills up by 10am - i dropped kids & 'stuff', drove back to house (1 mile) and returned with the bike* that's in the shed & vice versa. We also were able to park in the boat launch lot for $7 and after 4 you can park anywhere free of charge. This beach was fantastic - so clean and unlike the sound beaches -NO SEAWEED - the water was perfectly clear at high tide - we forgot how great the bayside beaches are - kids loved it - skim boarding, snorkeling, etc.
I had excellent communication with the owner the entire time. He was more than generous with everything and very accommodating.
I had the pleasure of renting this home with a group of friends during the Fourth of July, 2014. The house fit all of our needs and was the perfect spot for the eight of us. It has an open kitchen and living room which we loved as it allowed whomever was cooking to still be able to socialize with the group. The four bedrooms had comfortable beds and the master was amazing - large king bed with great AC, window shades, and a spacious en suite bathroom. The backyard patio was also great for BBQing and relaxing at the end of the day. Of course, the best part of the house is the proximity to the beach! The beach is a close bike ride or drive away but walking is also doable. Howard, the owner, was very easy to work with - he always got back to me quickly and the house was exceptionally clean and exactly as pictured! We will be returning for the 4th of July this year and cannot wait to be back!
