About Stephanie Emtman

Hi, we are Johnny and Stephanie and we love our cabin. We live in Packwood full time and love to ski and snowboard. We have a daughter that goes to White Pass Elementary. We love Packwood and we love our cabin and welcome you to it!

Stephanie Emtman purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Stephanie Emtman chose Mount Rainier

We bought this property because we wanted a original A frame. We love High Valley County Club and the benefits that are included when you own a home there. We also think that the friends and neighbors on Sunstone Road are the best!

What makes this cabin unique

There is nothing like a remodeled A frame cabin. They were made that way for a reason and we have tried to keep it original. The Rock-N-Roll memorabilia is certainly fun to check out ( don't forget to check out the poster up stairs and the light up stairs).

So filthy we had to leave early!

  • 1 of 5

We booked this quirky cabin looking for a last minute adventure and romantic getaway. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed were the signs detailing the "rules" for keeping the cabin clean and in good condition. This was surprising because the cabin was filthy and run down. My husband and I are pretty easy going, but there was mold on fridge door and it obviously had not been wiped out in a long time. The sheets were rough and worn, there were thick layers of dust and huge dust bunnies, pet hair on the carpet, and the shower was old and gross (we wore sandals). These are things I might accept in a $60 per night motel, but not at the price per night we were paying for this cabin. And, the absolute worst part, which made us end our trip early and drive several hours home, was that when I dried off after my shower there were curly black hairs stuck to my chest and legs from the towel (not my hair). We called the owners to explain this to them (and even sent them photos) and respectfully asked for a refund for the night we did not stay (we fully agreed to pay for the night we stayed and the cleaning fee even thought we felt that was laughable) they acted as though we were personally insulting them and were unwilling to talk with us (we are filing a formal complaint through VRBO). I guess if you are a hard core skier or snowboarder and are just looking for a base camp for the slopes, this place would be okay, but it is NOT a romantic spot in the least. I only wish I could post pictures so future renters are not taken by surprise like we were.

Other things future guests might want to be aware of: there is no firewood in the cabin, you must purchase it at the local grocery store or gas station. The hot tub is sunk into the deck and covered by a low roof so that it is almost totally enclosed creating an engineering challenge to get the lid off to access the control buttons. The freezer is full of the owners food and the medicine chest (which would have been useful because there isn't much counter space) is full of personal items, some of which are leaking unidentified goo.

Owner's Response: Wow! well hear is what really happened, my renters drove several hours to come hike the area. I don't think they understood exactly far Packwood was from them. They arrived late Friday night and wanted to hike on Saturday. It just so happens that they didn't check the weather report and it rained so hard on Saturday that they couldn't get out and decided to leave. They called and me at 4:30 on Saturday, said they had to go home and asked for a refund for the second night stating all the things that they found wrong with the cabin. I explained that I don't refund due to weather and that I would have to go evaluate the cabin before I could refund. My husband and I both went to the cabin and could find nothing that they were complaining about. In regards to the firewood, they are correct, we do not provide any as it states in the description and in the rental agreement. In regards to the hot tub, yes it is enclosed by a gazbo and sunk into the deck, just as the pictures show. This is no surprise, it is what makes the hot tub so great. As to the freezer, yes I have a couple packages of sausage in the bottom bin, hardly a inconvenience to anyone. Not to mention the fridge is huge. As to the pet hair and towels, it is all made up because they got rained out. The towels are washed by me in a commercial washer and dryer in my office. I have owned this cabin for almost 20 years and never had anyone threaten me so much for a refund. Communication was stopped because it was insanely scary and my husband would not allow anyone to talk to me on the phone like that.

Great cabin in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for one night of our honeymoon and loved it! We came from Seattle so we brought fresh fish to grill and then hung out on the patio and hot tub. We woke up and went hiking through some nearby trails. The views in the town are amazing. Overall, great amenities and location made for the perfect night!

So amazing!

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I stayed here for a girls trip and had such a great time! Everything was perfectly cleaned and stocked and the cabin was so cute! Stephanie was fantastic and allowed me to bring my dog last minute, which ended up making our trip even better. The hot tub was AMAZING! The only suggestion we had was adding some outside lights to make it easier to see while we're in the hot tub at night. But other than that, had a great time and plan on returning next year!

Good location and setting, but too old of everything.

  • 3 of 5

We visited Mt. Rainier during our stay. It's a functional cabin, but bedding is too old and kitchenware is limited and old.
