About Stephanie Emtman

Hi, we are Johnny and Stephanie and we love our cabin. We live in Packwood full time and love to ski and snowboard. We have a daughter that goes to White Pass Elementary. We love Packwood and we love our cabin and welcome you to it!

Stephanie Emtman purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Stephanie Emtman chose Mount Rainier

We bought this property because we wanted a original A frame. We love High Valley County Club and the benefits that are included when you own a home there. We also think that the friends and neighbors on Sunstone Road are the best!

What makes this cabin unique

There is nothing like a remodeled A frame cabin. They were made that way for a reason and we have tried to keep it original. The Rock-N-Roll memorabilia is certainly fun to check out ( don't forget to check out the poster up stairs and the light up stairs).

Small space, funky vibe, well-loved, not for the light sleeper

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this is a very sweet little cabin. You can tell the owners are big-time skiers, lovers of winter, the Beetles, and have put in a lot of energy crafting a funky, sweet space.

The hot tub right off the back porch was so awesome for easing sore muscles and relaxing, especially after some massive hikes we did. I can see how this spot would be a young skiers paradise during snowy season.

I wasn't familiar with A-frames, so I was a bit surprised at how tiny the space can be (bathroom, bedrooms) - but for those who already know A-frames this won't be a surprise.

I realize I like a bit more room - but the space will definitely work well for others who aren't worried about that. Just a feature to be aware of.

The other concern I would share, is I had a rough time sleeping on the bed upstairs with my partner, as it's reeaaally creaky so whenever one of us would move the other would wake up. So, if you're a heavy sleeper or sleeping solo, it probably won't be a concern.

The space definitely feels like an older, family cabin, with the retro-rock-n-roll flavor.

Hope this review is helpful.

Thanks to Stephanie for the last minute booking and the system that made check-in/out on our own schedule a breeze, and for the clear, organized info about the stay.

*P.s. You were out of dish soap so we bought some and left it in the kitchen.*

Filthy and Disgusting Cabin

  • 1 of 5

The best way I can describe this cabin is “filthy”, we definitely won’t be back.

This is the kind of place you want to take a bath in bleach after just walking in. There is a cleaning fee, but honestly I don’t know why, it doesn’t look like it has been cleaned in a while. There was urine on the back and base of the toilet, pet hair (I guess) on the bed and couch, and mold all over the shower. I’m not even sure if the shower can be salvaged at this point, it is completely disgusting. I opened the microwave to warm up some leftovers, and quickly decided against the inside was covered with dried up food from MANY previous uncleaned uses. Even the walls throughout the cabin were dirty and seemed to not have been wiped down in a long time. Additionally, there was a musty odor in the cabin...which did not disappear even with windows open. The hot tub "seemed" clean, but after seeing how dirty the cabin itself was, we decided it wasn't a safe idea to use it. So glad we made that decision... especially after we went back and read a review from 3/17 of a tenant who used test strips with the hot tub and found no sanitizer being used in the water. We tried to find somewhere else to go after the first night, but due to the car show none of the hotels in the area had any vacancies.

The description says children are welcome; but if you’re traveling with children you probably want to take a close look at the picture of the stairs, they’re sturdy enough but way too steep. We barricaded the stairs and all slept downstairs, because we didn’t want to take a chance of our son trying to come up in the middle of the night. Also note that they have a poster of many Kama Sutra positions, a neon sign in the form of a part of the female anatomy, and also some books you may not want your children getting their hands on. Our son is too young know the difference, but it’s pretty inappropriate if you ask me.

Lastly, you should know that they actually charge you for the deposit rather than just putting a hold on your card (yes this is noted when you pay), but they are on their own schedule for refunding you. We checked out on a Sunday and had to email the owners the following Wednesday in order for them to refund the deposit (which we didn’t get credit for until Friday).

Fun experience! Beautiful area of Washington.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was awesome. Less than a mile drive to the country club where we paid $5 to swim and $10 to golf each. We were 5 min from the town of packwood which had a small grocery store. The cabin had a propain grill and hot tub, large fridge, all the main necessities, movies, etc. it is in a very quiet neighborhood where we rarely saw neighbors even though there are several houses and cabins. We saw a herd of elk in town when we first arrived! All the locals seemed very nice and welcoming.

A few things that we struggled with... it was near 100' the week of our stay and there is no AC. The cabin had a small table side fan that had to be on at all times but it barely helped. We couldn't go upstairs Bc of the heat. All 3 of us slept in the small bed downstairs with the door open and fan aimed at us to try and sleep through the heat.

The washing machine worked great but the dryer could only be used on air dry otherwise it's inside vent cover would fall out and have to be put back together over and over again.

The BBQ worked well, but the lid is broken, so when you open it up, it falls backward.

All the furniture is very old, so it's warn out and uncomfortable.

There is no AT&T phone service ANYWHERE near this area, so we had no cell service or internet all week. We didn't need to use our phones, but would have been nice to have contact in case of emergency with the outside world.

Overall, we had a lot of fun here. Spent all day at the country club and then grilled dinner and relaxed at the cabin for games or a movie.

Absolutely charming!

  • 5 of 5

Great little cabin. We are a family of 4 big people, and we fit! I did have one kiddo sleeping out on a couch.

The cabin was very clean, and had everything we needed. Also, the owner was so nice, and brought us a new DVD player when the one in the cabin didn't work. Awesome!

The only thing to remember when renting during the summer in Packwood is that it does get warm, and the cabin doesn't have A/C so next time I would bring some fans.

Otherwise, a perfect little retreat!

Such a fun cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin and all the memorabilia inside...definitely our style! It included every amenity we needed or could want including a dart board, which we really excited to use! Movies and games were available and the hot tub was an added bonus. I think there's a good chance we'll try to make it back some day. Thanks for such a wonderfully relaxing weekend!

Nice and quiet and relaxing

Everything you need to stay and have a weekend away. We would do it again in this beautiful area. The hot tub helps at night after long hikes too!
