Beautiful cabin, very clean and comfortable in a lovely location
The cabin was the perfect size for our group. There was not a real complaint from anyone and they all had a great stay.
Worth the drive - would rent again
Cabin was clean and more than spacious for 4 adults and two children. Had everything we needed as far as pots/pans etc.... Would have been a 5 star if the hot tub had been hot when we went to go in. Recommend checking the temp when you first arrive. We would rent here again!
Relaxing and lovely
The lodge is simply beautiful. The expectations were all normal (I had read reviews previously that made it seem like the owner expected too much from their renters). It is a very nice and clean place to enjoy a family get together.
Too many rules
The Elk Run Lodge was convenient to our visit to Rainier National Park and the house is nicely decorated, but there are a couple of issues to consider before renting. As a previous reviewer said, there are a lot of rules. With the directions come a packet with pages and pages of rules. Most are things that you wouldn't do anyway, but it leaves you a little on edge that you could accidentally break a rule. One of them is that you have to take your shoes off before entering. I get that you don't want ski boots tramping on your floors, but all shoes seemed a little excessive. If you have AT&T cell service, you have no cell service in Packwood at all. This becomes an issue if you have problems with the house - you have to communicate by email or text and there is a significant lag time in responses. I felt like if we had an issue, we would have no one to call. Since there is such iffy cell service, it would be nice to have a local contact person or quicker responses on questions. There are also no coverings on most of the windows including the master bedroom and bath. If you want to sleep in on your vacation, it is not happening because of the light. The bathroom window is right by the shower, so you flash your neighbor's patio getting in and out of the shower.
The elk do visit each morning and eat right outside the house which is really cool!
Nice clean home. Unfortunately, the rental agreement makes for an uncomfortable say.
I read a previous review that stated the same message, but I chose to ignore it. If you want to relax in a rental and not feel unwelcomed, I recommend finding another place.
I have been using VRBO for 5 years and have never had the same issue. I have never written a negative review. What made it particularly annoying is that the owner informed me the day of check- in that the refrigerator didn’t work. They offered to reimburse me $50 which I didn’t’ feel was nearly enough given that there a very few restaurants in Packwood and we enjoy cooking. I requested a $100 reimbursement, but the owner didn’t respond. To date, I have not been reimbursed the $50. In addition, the hot tub temperature was set at 90 degrees and the rental agreement stated that the temperature should not be change. The average water in a hot tub is 100-102 degrees.
What I found particularly disheartening is that the owner states in the rental agreement that they will charge the guest $25 for not loading the dish washer upon leaving the property. However, the owner only offered to reimburse the guest $50 for not providing a working refrigerator. Doesn’t seem right to me.
I am very sorry you feel this way. Appliance and mechanical are naturally out of our control. We communicated with you once we found out that the refrigerator was not working. We even had our caretaker and repairman come and look at the refrigerator as quickly as they could. This is a fairly new appliance along with the rest of our appliances so our expectation is for it to work as well. Come to find out it was simple fix for our repairman, but it did take some time. We did offer you the refund and it has been refunded to you. We seek to treat everyone of our guests like we would want to be treated.
Beautiful, clean, and cozy!
What a wonderful home!
