Comfortable cabin in a great location 👍

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic stay! The cabin was stocked with every possible amenity. Really enjoyed not having tv, cell service and internet - great place to disconnect. The books and DVD’s provided helped fill the little downtime we had. Kids loved the hot cocoa bar! We all (including our dog) enjoyed exploring around the property. Can’t wait to come back for a warm weather stay.

Perfect weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The cabin was incredibly clean, comfortable and well stocked. The location was perfect and close to many hiking trails and national forest land. We enjoyed hiking, reading and relaxing by the fire. We really appreciated being able to bring our dogs with us. The only regret we have is not staying longer! The owners are easy to communicate with and really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. We can't wait to stay again!

Owner's Response: Thank you guys so much for the kind review! The proximity to the trails in the forest is the biggest draw of this property to us too, we never tire of it! We love being able to just walk out the door and head to the trails whether snowshoeing, x-country skiing, hiking with our dog, or riding the horses out. We greatly appreciate awesome guests like yourselves. You and your pups are welcome back anytime and we hope to host you again soon! Thanks again! Kind Regards, Dianne and Mike

Great New Year's weekend getaway!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a last-minute New Year's weekend getaway. Dianne and Mike had a bottle of wine, a card, and food in the fridge waiting for us when we arrived. The house is very cozy and has everything you need. The fireplace was so nice and inviting. We spent most of our time there playing board games and watching the fire. The bed was comfortable and warm. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful this time of year. We went to Creedmore Lakes and enjoyed a nice hike with our dogs. We plan to come back again when we can stay a little longer. Thanks for everything, Dianne and Mike. Happy New Year!

The Perfect Colorado Christmas Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Black Bear Hollow was exceptional! Starting with it's location, tucked in the trees at the base of a hill, my family immediately recognized that we were in for a fantastic experience. Inside, the house was perfectly clean and inviting, decorated just like you'd hope a mountain cabin would be. Our first move was to the Hot Cocoa bar which helped all of us to settle in and start our vacation. The kitchen had every appliance, from a coffee maker to 2 crock pots, a microwave to an electric skillet, not to mention baking sheets, glassware, and utensils(we cooked an entire Christmas dinner without issue). After starting a fire in the fireplace, we made S'mores and played board games(no wi-fi is a blessing!). After the first night, we slept late on the incredibly comfortable beds, watched movies in the den, ate well, and spent time together as a family. We had snow every day, especially on Christmas (I know that's not controllable), we went sledding, had snowball fights, and went exploring with our dog. The added touches from the owners, a bowl of fresh fruit, orange juice and muffins for breakfast, a bottle of wine, there was even a Christmas tree with lights for us to put presents under, all helped to make our time in Black Bear Hollow a life-long memory. We will definitely visit again, hopefully for another Christmas!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the great review! We are so happy that you guys had a wonderful Christmas! We enjoy hosting guests like you who can still appreciate getting back to nature and the simple things in life. We agree no Wifi is a blessing. We may add it one of these days, but we love escaping to BBH to unplug/disconnect and decompress. The library in Red Feather Lakes about 10 min away has it for free plus the restaurant at Beaver Meadows and the Pot Belly have it too. Data through AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. works too if needed. We are so glad you enjoyed the Christmas tree and the hot cocoa bar and all of the amenities. You guys are welcome back anytime and we sure hope to host you again! Take good care, Dianne and Mike

Weekend Getaway, Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

This has become our weekend haven! We enjoy coming to escape the busy life. The cottage is always so cozy, clean, and has everything we need. We love to sit by the fire at night, and often we will sit out side and watch the stars. We come to hike, fish...and in the winter ice fish. It truly has become our favorite destination. The owners make booking so simple for us, and they are always very accommodating. We love Black Bear Hollow!

About Dianne & Mike

Hi! We are Dianne & Mike and we are so happy and deeply grateful to have Black Bear Hollow and the ability to share this fantastic home and peaceful location with our guests.

We are animal lovers, and enjoy horseback riding, hiking with our dogs, hanging out with our cats, traveling (especially to non-touristy areas and getting to know the locals), music, yoga, viewing wildlife & marine life, scuba diving, and snorkeling.

Dianne & Mike purchased this house in 2011

Why Dianne & Mike chose Crystal Lake

We have been traveling to Red Feather Lakes since the 1980s & we absolutely love it. The tranquility, the forests, the trail riding & hiking trails are spectacular. It's a wonderful property that is so close to the forest trails with a feeling of seclusion & privacy--yet close enough to the village of Red Feathers and Beaver Meadows Resort to be convenient for restaurants, gas & groceries etc.

What makes this house unique

We love this home because we can saddle up our horses and ride straight from the property to 25 miles of trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. (It's like 50 miles of trails because when you turn around they always look different from the other direction, lol!). The trails are also great for hiking with our dog, and snowshoeing which we love.

Plus it's close and convenient to Lady Moon, Mount Margaret, Lone Pine and many more trail heads also!

The views of wildlife from the home are absolutely breathtaking and we never tire of looking out and seeing the moose and deer visiting and grazing on the grass (and the aspen buds in the spring!).

In the summer, the aspen grove that Black Bear Hollow is nestled in just explodes! The aspens leaf out and columbines & other wildflowers are abundant all around the home--it is incredible!

In the fall, the gorgeous aspens turn a beautiful gold and watching the leaves fall from the deck is one of our favorite things to do--very relaxing after a day of hiking and/or horseback riding.

In the winter, the snow on the pine trees with the sun glistening on the branches are magical....mother nature's Christmas lights. We love snowshoeing on the trails in the winter, and coming back to the cabin to warm up with hot cocoa & the awesome fireplace! :)

Overall the peace & quiet of this location, the wildlife, and proximity to the trails are the huge draws of this property. We love being in the mountains--where our neighbors are mostly deer, moose, elk, black bears, marmots, eagles, hummingbirds, grouse, wild turkeys and so much more.

Getting to reconnect with nature & getting away from concrete, stress of cities, traffic, noise, neon signs & crowds. We love BBH for disconnecting with wires, decompressing & reconnecting with nature, trees, wildflowers, & the abundance of lakes, rivers & mountains to explore in Northern Colorado with Black Bear Hollow as base camp is simply perfect!

Living the dream at Black Bear Hollow! :)
