About the property

Located on 2 acres a short walk from 25 miles of trail in national forest!

Black Bear Hollow is nestled in a beautiful aspen grove on more than 2 acres with easy year-round access. Please bring your dogs, we are pet-friendly! Located about 1/2 mile from Beaver Meadows Resort, 10 minutes from Red Feather Lakes. About a 1 one hour gorgeous, scenic drive from Fort Collins.

You'll love our peaceful haven because of the wildlife, seclusion, tranquility, + convenience to 25 miles of trails in the Forest right out the front door. Our place is good for solo travelers, couples, families & dogs, & small groups of friends.

The changing aspen leaves are brilliant; wildflowers are abundant; and the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular! It is common to see lots of wildlife around our home so be sure and bring your camera!

This retreat has something for every season. You may want to just relax, reconnect with nature, hang out on the deck & stargaze--view the Milky Way in all it's starry splendor away from city lights. Many activities to choose from when you feel like adventuring out in every season.

The clean, crisp mountain air is always inviting. 1/8 mile to 25 miles of trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. Activities nearby include hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, river rafting, snowshoeing, snow tubing, and cross-country skiing (the nearby resort offers horses, snowshoes, snow tubes and cross country skis for rent). The Fox Acres golf club is open to the public in Red Feathers. Abundant opportunities for fishing--there are many public lakes or you can also fish on the North Fork of the Poudre River just around the bend. Private lakes available for fishing also in Crystal Lakes.

Note: It is a short walk down the road from the cabin to the forest entrance; go out the front door and head west-the next dirt road to the left leads to the trail heads.

Note: There are 6 public lakes in Red Feathers where you can fish for free. Fees apply to fish the river and the private lakes in Crystal Lakes--please ask owner.

AT&T, T-Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Metro-PCS & Spint all work well at our retreat--others work nearby on higher ground.

A nearby resort offers a fantastic restaurant, and there are also great restaurants in Red Feathers. If you prefer, you can prepare your meals in the fully appointed kitchen, or you may choose to grill on the back deck and stargaze while enjoying the cool mountain air.

After the meal, snuggle in front of the wood-burning fireplace in the main living area or settle into the cozy den to watch movies on the TV with built in DVD player (there is no TV reception-it's for DVDs only &, several G and PG13 movies are provided), play games (lots of board games provided) or read (several books provided). You may want to take a relaxing soak in the oversized oval tub off the master bedroom. This warm and inviting home is furnished with a clever bear motif, and new super comfy mattresses.

Disconnect. Recover. Decompress. Reconnect with Nature.

No wifi. It is free & available nearby--at the library in Red Feathers 24/7 & at two nearby restaurants at the resort and Potbelly.

The majority of your neighbors will be deer, moose, elk, black bears, bobcats, birds, eagles, marmots, wild turkeys, grouse, and much more. You may also see antelope, and mountain goats on the scenic drive up the mountain.

Cabin Details: Spacious modular home with 3 bedrooms (3rd bedroom is den separated by french doors with privacy curtains with a pull out sofa--queen size), 2 baths (1 with both tub and shower, 2nd with walk in shower), living room, den (with queen sofa sleeper), sleeps 6 on beds/mattresses (2 queens, 1 queen sofa sleeper) and 1 additional adult if don't mind sleeping on couch; living room with wood burning fireplace, dishwasher/disposal, microwave, washer/dryer, matching leather sofa/loveseat, small flat screen TV with DVD player built in (some movies provided & can rent movies in Red Feather Lakes Village at the library) deck, 2 electric grills. About Dianne & Mike

Hi! We are Dianne & Mike and we are so happy and deeply grateful to have Black Bear Hollow and the ability to share this fantastic home and peaceful location with our guests.

We are animal lovers, and enjoy horseback riding, hiking with our dogs, hanging out with our cats, traveling (especially to non-touristy areas and getting to know the locals), music, yoga, viewing wildlife & marine life, scuba diving, and snorkeling.

Why Dianne & Mike chose Red Feather Lakes

We have been traveling to Red Feather Lakes since the 1980s & we absolutely love it. The tranquility, the forests, the trail riding & hiking trails are spectacular. It's a wonderful property that is so close to the forest trails with a feeling of seclusion & privacy--yet close enough to the village of Red Feathers and Beaver Meadows Resort to be convenient for restaurants, gas & groceries etc.

What makes this house unique

We love this home because we can saddle up our horses and ride straight from the property to 25 miles of trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. (It's like 50 miles of trails because when you turn around they always look different from the other direction, lol!). The trails are also great for hiking with our dog, and snowshoeing which we love.

Plus it's close and convenient to Lady Moon, Mount Margaret, Lone Pine and many more trail heads also!

The views of wildlife from the home are absolutely breathtaking and we never tire of looking out and seeing the moose and deer visiting and grazing on the grass (and the aspen buds in the spring!).

In the summer, the aspen grove that Black Bear Hollow is nestled in just explodes! The aspens leaf out and columbines & other wildflowers are abundant all around the home--it is incredible!

In the fall, the gorgeous aspens turn a beautiful gold and watching the leaves fall from the deck is one of our favorite things to do--very relaxing after a day of hiking and/or horseback riding.

In the winter, the snow on the pine trees with the sun glistening on the branches are magical....mother nature's Christmas lights. We love snowshoeing on the trails in the winter, and coming back to the cabin to warm up with hot cocoa & the awesome fireplace! :)

Overall the peace & quiet of this location, the wildlife, and proximity to the trails are the huge draws of this property. We love being in the mountains--where our neighbors are mostly deer, moose, elk, black bears, marmots, eagles, hummingbirds, grouse, wild turkeys and so much more.

Getting to reconnect with nature & getting away from concrete, stress of cities, traffic, noise, neon signs & crowds. We love BBH for disconnecting with wires, decompressing & reconnecting with nature, trees, wildflowers, & the abundance of lakes, rivers & mountains to explore in Northern Colorado with Black Bear Hollow as base camp is simply perfect!

Living the dream at Black Bear Hollow! :)

Fantastic location, wonderful inviting home

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this property and we look forward to coming back again. Owners are super nice and their home is as beautiful as the pictures and description. Deer were seen right off the deck and through the front windows - even with our 4 dogs who barked at them. The deer didn't seem concerned. Too much rain to hike this trip but we enjoyed walks down the road where a moose crossed in front of us. An excellent place to get away from the hustle of daily life and enjoy the peace and quiet. We stayed a week. Wish it could have been a month!

Beautiful area and very accommodating host!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived a mile deer walked down the driveway to greet us. The property was amazing during July, with all the wildflowers and aspens. When we came in there was a special note for us and even a bottle of wine!! The host was very accommodating. The only downside, is that there is no wifi and no service for Verizon, but it is nice to be able to i connect and just relax off the grid. I would recommend this place to anyone, and they allow dogs!

We love Bear Hollow

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip to Bear Hollow and we will definitely be back. The cabin is well kept, attractive, perfectly situated, and with three bedrooms it met our needs. The owners are nice and reasonable. We had to make a change in our reservation and they were wiling to work with us. This is close to a variety of beautiful hiking trails and good fishing. Also, there's room for a jigsaw puzzle on the living room table.

Our stay was top of the notch. The house is unique and super clean decorated to fit its name. Seen wildlife everyday. Highlight was a cow moose and her two young calves coming down the driveway. We celebrated our granddaughters 26th birthday with her husband and our daughter and our son in law. Weather was beautiful, rained one day for about two hours. Rest of the week spectacular. Try this place you will love it. Celebrated our anniversary here.

Our Family had a fantastic time! Exactly what the doctor ordered. Our daughter came home for spring break and we spent the weekend in BBH tending to the fireplace. Totally relaxing! Looking forward to returning.
