Black Bear Hollow is a peaceful & romantic oasis in the mountains of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado! Nestled in a gorgeous aspen grove & forest of tall pines, spruce and wildflowers~on more than 2 acres with easy year-round access. Please consider bringing your dogs, we are pet-friendly! Located within walking distance (about 1/2 mile) from Beaver Meadows Resort, 10 minutes drive from Red Feather Lakes, 1 hour scenic drive from Fort Collins, 2 hours from Denver!
You'll love our peaceful and romantic haven because of the wildlife, seclusion, peaceful vibe & quiet tranquility, convenience to shared private access of 25 miles of trails in the Forest right out the front door, abundant fishing opportunities 5-10 minutes away! Our oasis is good for solo travelers, couples, families with dogs (or without~we keep it super duper clean), & small groups of friends.
*Fishing~We are 1/2 mile from fishing the North Fork of the Cache la Poudre River, about 10 minute drive to 7 public lakes where fishing is FREE, and access to an additional 4 private lakes. The private lakes and the river require a small fee to 3rd party for fishing access--please ask owner for more fishing info.
*Year round availability~This retreat has something for every season. The changing aspen leaves are brilliant; wildflowers are abundant; and the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular! It is common to see lots of wildlife around our home so be sure and keep your camera handy!
*Relax surrounded by forest~ You may want to just relax, reconnect with nature, hang out on the deck surrounded by forest & stargaze--view the Milky Way in all it's starry splendor away from city lights in this dark sky community. Many activities to choose from when you feel like adventuring out in every season.
*Hiking~ The clean, crisp mountain air is always inviting. Short walk out the front door down the road (1/8 mile) to access of 25 miles of trails in the Roosevelt National Forest.
*More Activities~nearby include bird & wildlife viewing, paddle boarding, horseback riding, kayaking, river rafting on the North Fork of the Cache la Poudre River, canoeing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, and cross-country skiing (the nearby resort 1/2 mile away offers horses, snowshoes, snow tubes and cross country skis for rent). Fox Acres golf club is open to the public in Red Feathers.
*Cell Service~AT&T, T-Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Metro-PCS & Sprint all typcally work well at our retreat--others work nearby on higher ground.
*Meals~A nearby resort offers a fantastic restaurant, and there are also other great restaurants in Red Feathers. If you prefer, you can prepare your meals in the fully appointed kitchen, or you may choose to grill on the back deck and stargaze while enjoying the cool mountain air.
*Fireplace~After the meal, snuggle in front of the wood-burning fireplace in the main living area or settle into the cozy den to watch movies on the large flat screen TV with DVD player (there is no TV reception-it's for DVDs only, several G & PG13 movies provided); play games (lots of board games provided); or read (several books provided). You may want to take a relaxing soak in the oversized oval tub off the front bedroom. This warm and inviting home is furnished with a clever bear motif, and new super comfy mattresses.

*Intentionally there is no Wifi. (It is free & available nearby--at the library in Red Feathers 24/7 & at two nearby restaurants at the resort and Potbelly for staying in touch.)
**Seclusion~The majority of your neighbors will be deer, moose, black bears, bobcats, birds, eagles, marmots, wild turkeys, grouse, and much more. You may also see elk, antelope, and mountain goats on the scenic drive up the mountain.
*House Details: Spacious & full of light modular home with 3 bedrooms with queens (3rd bedroom is den separated by french doors with lined privacy curtains & a pull out queen sofa sleeper with new foam mattress), 2 baths (1 private bath off front bedroom with tub & shower, 2nd full bath with walk in shower), living room, large deck.
*Sleeps 9 as follows: (2 queens in 2 bedrooms, 1 queen sofa sleeper in den serves as 3rd bedroom, common area/living room has new queen air mattress that sleeps 2 & leather couch and loveseat).
*Wood burning fireplace, dishwasher/disposal, microwave, washer/dryer, 2 flat screen TVs with DVD players (some movies provided & can rent movies in Red Feather Lakes Village at the library), big deck in back surrounded by forest with 2 new chaise loungers & 4 new chairs, picnic table with seating benches, 2 portable electric barbecue grills for use on the deck.
*Abundant windows, vaulted ceilings, skylights, propane forced air heat and fireplace. Home is 1082 square feet.
*Kitchen essentials including Belgian waffle maker, electric skillet, new Farberware nonstick pots/pans/skillets, new Gotham large skillet, new 7 qt Crock Pot, new Oster 24 lb turkey roaster oven (18 qt), utensils, 4 cutting boards, plethora of cooking knives, bake ware, dishware, wine glasses/mugs/cups/glasses stocked in the kitchen. Several essential staples & pantry items provided such as spices, oils, vinegars, tea, hot cocoa, coffee, cream, sugar/flour, etc.
*Toiletries Provided~Body lotion, hand/body soap, shampoo/conditioner.
*Paper products are provided (Kleenex, toilet paper & paper towels).
*Wood for the fireplace is often provided but not guaranteed (wood can be purchased on the way up the mountain at the Forks in Livermore or Trading Post in Red Feather Lakes Village on the way to the cabin).
*Please note no outside fires and no fireworks allowed. There is not an approved fire-pit at this time, although we have plans for a very cool one in the near future! :)
*Trading Post in Red Feather Lakes Village has groceries, fuel and fun gifts & souvenirs.
*Getting there~Please note the majority of the access road is a well maintained paved county road.
*Winter~The cabin is used frequently during the winter months, and we clear the driveway of snow routinely. 4 wheel drive is highly recommended & sometimes necessary November through April. The weather can change very quickly on the mountain. Please check weather forecast, contact us if questions and plan accordingly.
* Dog Friendly! :) Bring your best buddy (or buddies) with you for your vacation! No need to leave Fido behind or arrange for a pet sitter! $25 per dog, per night. Maximum 2 dogs. Please let owners know when booking your stay how many dogs are in your family that will be joining you. Please bring a blanket for your dog to lay on, as they are not allowed on the beds or furniture. Please pick up after your pup. There are additional doggy blankets in the 2 bottom drawers dresser in the back bedroom that you can feel free to use. Please never leave your pup in the home unattended unless you are sure they won't cause any damages--or etter yet they are crated.
*Fort Collins is about an hour drive away, it's a cool town with lots to do. Check it out at www.visitfortcollins.com.
*Shambhala Mountain Center is about a 20 minute drive away, it offers many classes and teaching of paths of personal health, deepened awareness and transformation. There are also several churches in Red Feather Lakes Village.
* Wildlife~Please be aware you are going into wildlife country if you stay at Black Bear Hollow. This is home to a lot of wildlife, including moose, deer, bobcat, elk, eagles, coyotes, marmots, black bears and much more.
*Snow Tubing~Just out the front door, head west and around the bend 1/2 mile away~you will find 12 snow tubing runs at the nearby resort! General days of operation (weather permitting) for snow tubing at Beaver Meadows Resort: Thursday through Sunday, every day over Christmas/New Years Holiday and the local days for Spring Break. If you are coming to our house with plans to snow tube at the resort--please check with the resort if they will be open and operating for tubing during your requested dates & plan accordingly. No refunds will be given if you arrive at our house and the snow tube runs are closed due to lack of snow or for any other reason.
*Be bear aware, do not leave any food in your vehicle and no trash can be left outside or it will attract wildlife. ALWAYS LOCK YOUR VEHICLE. Leave no trace of food in your vehicle, not even a gum wrapper. Black Bears know how to open vehicle doors, once in they cannot open the doors to get out and get trapped. If you lock your doors, that will stop them from getting in.
*No Hunting Allowed on Property. No Discharging of Firearms Allowed on Property. No Archery Allowed on Property.
*No Rearranging of Furniture.
*No Smoking inside our outside the home, or anywhere on the property.
*Owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises which includes any damage to any vehicles or trailers, campers, etc. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premises.
*This house works best with 6 or less people. It will sleep 9 with the air mattress, couch and/or loveseat in the living room (common area) if guests are okay with limited privacy. Loveseat is typical size, and only suitable for a small child. The 3 queens and air mattress each sleep 2 adults and couch is typical size and long enough for most adults.
*Please keep your pets supervised if controlled under voice command, or on a leash for their safety.
