Luxury On Mountain Ski Accommodation located between Alta and Snowbird

The Red Fern Chalet is a beautiful hand crafted custom built ski home with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 1 full kitchen, open fire places, a number of decks and balconies including a mountain deck with a hot tub, a private parking space for two vehicles. This makes the house perfect for a big family or large group.

The Red Fern is located between world famous powder ski resorts of Alta and Snowbird with incredible panoramic mountain views, particularly from the main deck. The resort enjoys incredible skiing conditions year in, year out with an average of about 50 feet of snow per annum over that last 10 years (that's more than 14 metres).

In the Summer months it's a stunningly beautiful, creekside location and an ideal base for hiking, climbing, camping and all other outdoors pursuits that Utah State has to offer.

At any time of the year, the Red Fern is a terrific environment to unwind. It has been furnished with comfort and cosiness in mind and does not have that 'rental property' vibe. The Red Fern is generously equipped with an extensive library, hundred of games, and an amazing entertainment system reaching every room and living area. The kitchen is fully equipped for the most ambitious chef.

Rion is our caretaker, an old timers at the Alf Engen Ski School. If you need a good guide and want to cut the long lift lines at Alta or Snowbird you can hire Rion through the Alta Ski Shcool. Rion lives in a seperate caretaker apartment in the house. He is there to make your stay as fun and carefree as possible. He knows the resort as well as anyone and will be happy to help you with any questions or queries from booking a chef or a masseur or a restaurant, to introducing you to Dr Ken at the Alta Clinic if you get bitten by an Alta snow snake and twist a knee. He can arrange transport from the airport or into Salt Lake for excursions, food shop for your arrival and organise housecleaning, all depending on how exactly you want and enjoy it.

*'the security cameras in the home will be turned to the ceiling and the one outside by the hot tub will be covered during rentals. You are not being filmed.

Redfern house

The Red fern house is awesome as is the property manager Rion. Convenient shuttle service to Alta and Snowbird to start your day and the ability to ski home at the end of the day. The views are amazing as well.

The house is great. Perfect location for easy access to alta and snowbird. We skied home and took the very easy shuttle in the morning. The caretaker was awesome and helped us get in to the house early, even gave me a pair of goggles to borrow for skiing. Everything was great.

Guys Trip

We had the pleasure of staying at Redfern the weekend Alta set a season snow record. We had an amazing weekend made even better by Rion, the property care-taker. He was a great resource for any questions we had - from where to grab a bite to eat to which area of the mountain to ski. We got 5' of snow during our stay and he even dug out our car! The property is conveniently located between Alta and Snowbird. You can ski right to the house from Alta or take a quick shuttle to Snowbird. I would strongly recommend this home if you are visiting either Alta or Snowbird.

The house is even better than described. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out, CLEAN, and great appliances, beds, etc. But even more impressive than the space...the amenities are the best I've ever experienced in a VRBO house. The home is stocked with everything you could possibly need...from spices to papertowel...from extra bedding to games and books. The best amenity is Rion! We were interlodged several times and Rion was in constant contact. He shovelled out our car, made sure we had a shuttle to pick us up, offered to help with anything we might need. Can't thank the owners and Rion enough for such a fabulous week....and for taking the time and expense to ensure our comfort. The 8 year olds are already asking.....when are we going back to Redfern?????

Great house

2 families of 4 stayed for a week. We had plenty of privacy and room to spread out. The gathering areas were great for when we all wanted to be together. We could all easily fit in the lovely hot tub, too! The boot room performed perfectly and was a real luxury. We cooked at home every night. The kitchen is fully stocked with supplies, but we did have some trouble with making the oven work. However, there is another one right downstairs in the second kitchen! We used the shuttle to get to and from Alta. There were a few times that we had to wait quite a while because it was full, but it worked well for the most part. Overall, we would definitely come back!

Great house and amazing host

The house is very spacious, layout is perfect and has everything we needed to have a large party over the holidays. We really enjoyed the hot tub after skiing and spent a lot of time in the large kitchen and spacious living room. Rion is the perfect host - responsive as well as extremely knowledgable about anything in the area. It's easy to get to Alta but a bit more difficult to get to Snowbird given the shuttle doesn't go there. We found a hack - got the Cliff Lodge bell desk to come pick us up when we needed to go to Snowbird.

Perfect Trip

The Red Fern House is even better than the pictures make it look and Rion made everything so easy. Our group of 6 guys doesn’t get to see one another very often, and this house served as a perfect base for us to ski, eat, drink and enjoy being together. The hot tub is huge, nice and has great views down the canyon. We are already talking about coming back next year and the only thing we will change is to stay in for dinner every single night.

Excellent Snowbird/Alta Getaway

A group of college friends got together and stayed at Redfern. Rion the manager is awesome to work with, and super helpful in every way...educating us on shuttles, groceries, and everything we needed to have a great vacation. Redfern is a beautiful house, strategically located between Alta and Snowbird. A shuttle service picks us up at the door and within minutes we are at either resort ready to ski or board. Great ski house for a group or family trip

Super nice ski house located right in between Alta and Snowbird. Lots of large rooms with good beds. Beautiful views, nice large hot tub, very clean, well stocked with everything you'd need for an easy vacation. Easy shuttle service to Atla (1-2 mins) and Snowbird (3-4 mins). Rion is incredibly helpful -- any time we had a question he either immediately answered or came over to show us (I had trouble figuring out the very cool audio system). We couldn't recommend the house and Rion highly enough. We'd definitely return.

Amazing location and terrific house

From the moment we started looking at the possibility of renting the Redfern house, we had a great experience. Rion, the property manager, was incredibly communicative throughout the entire process from start to finish. We had 7 guys in our group and we were all very comfortable with our individual spaces. We cooked in each night and the house had a fully setup kitchen with everything you'd need. The shuttle to the Bird or Alta was just a call away and I don't think we ever waited for more than 5-10 minutes to catch a ride. At the end of the day, it was easy to ski home from either resort. I can't recommend Redfern enough, you'll love the entire experience.

Family Christmas in Utah. East family meets West coast family.

Intergenerational vacation with something for Everyone from 16-90 years young. The property manager Rion was more concierge than caretaker. A great resource and available for any house snafu, which we had few. (TVs not working and master bedroom shower needs repair) Spectacular views ,World class skiing and a city bus that will take you to and from snowbird or Alta for FREE. There is also a shuttle courtesy of Alta. We opted for private chefs and that was worth all the gold in Fort Knox. We would love to come back especially after the planned remodel.

My name is Rion. I grew up in Lake Tahoe and have skied since I could stand. I came to Utah to attend college many years ago. College didn't last, but the skiing did. I now live at Alta and am the caretaker of the Redfern Chalet.

Why they chose this property

The Redfern Chalet is a beautifully built, handsomely furnished, comfortable home in a stunning mountain setting. It offers the perfect environment for friends and family, with fantastic spaces, indoor and out for entertaining and relaxing, and a state of the art entertainment system in every room.

Alta itself offers some of the best skiing on the planet. It is one of North Amercia's only ski-only resorts, and is regularly voted the leading resort for terrain and snow conditions in the world. For boarders, the neighbouring, connected resort of Snowbird offers fabulous, varied terrain. Alta has a fantastic ski school for young and old, where most of the instructors have 20 or more years of Alta experience under their belts. At the Alf Engen Ski School teaching younger children is a privilege, not a chore, as is offering real adventure and challenge to more experienced teen skiers under the expert supervision of really expert instructors.

'Alta is for Skiing' so, while Alta has a few authentic apré-ski spots, it does not even try to offer the high end shopping or dining experiences of tamer resorts. So arranging a local chef to cater at the chalet can be a wonderful and cost effective choice to get the most out of valuable time with friends and family.

In the summer, the house offers a perfect base for trekking, mountain biking, climbing and other outdoor pursuits, or just a weekend escape from the heat of Salt Lake City.

Alta powder! On average the last 10 years, there has been over 47 feet of the famously light Alta powder snow. That's 14 metres of snow for our European friends, and a hell of a lot of snow in any language…
