Perfect place to stay for a weekend get away or Road America race. Steps away from downtown Elkhart Lake. Private and tucked away in the woods, but an easy walk to all of the Elkhart fun! Like-new throughout. Custom cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops. Wide plank cherry and mahogany hardwood flooring throughout. Media room in the lower level, but no internet as I try to keep it a refuge from work (but not always successful at that)! Three fireplaces, two gas and one wood burning. Three bedrooms, sleeps six, and three full baths with custom tile work throughout. Lake access with private pier, paddleboat, and deck.

This is our family vacation home. Our parents were married at the fireplace hearth, and we gather here for holidays. So many rich memories were shared in this house. It is a very happy place and we are glad to share our slice of heaven with you.
Why Shawn chose Elkhart Lake
Our home has been completely renovated. We gutted the 1940s interior down to the wall studs, reconfigured the interior rooms, but kept the great room just as it was intended to be--open, welcoming, and a great space for gathering.
What makes this House unique
Elkhart Lake is a magical place. Friendly people, great restaurants, world class golf and racing are just down the road, but when you come home, there is always a peaceful retreat on our lake pier. And in the winter months, you can enjoy warmth from all three of our fireplaces. So cozy!

Great summer get away!
Great location. We walked everywhere! House was perfect for group of mixed adults and kids.
Thanks, Lisa! The house is the closest to town that also has a private beach, giving you that walkability. So glad that got to enjoy it!!
I would have given it a higher rating but due to Shawn keeping part of our damage deposit, I cannot.
My husband, my two teenage children and two friends stayed two nights over the Labor day weekend. We were all in need of a quiet, restful weekend before the start of school. The property is set in a great location, walking distance to all that Elkhart Lake has to offer and beautiful views of the wooded ravines. Although it is not on the lake, a short walk brings you to a lovely private dock on the lake which requires a small amount of planning for a perfect day. The home is very well equipped and although there is not a lot of information provided, we found everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the layout was great. The upper bathroom needs some tender loving care as the bathtub grout had mildew and the shower curtain needs washing or replacement. My children were also told by me not to use the wooden deck as the railings overlooking the ravine were at the end of their life and there were holes on the deck from rotting wood. Shawn did inform us the deck was "soft" prior to our arrival but after we paid. It is also worth noting, the hardwood floors although newer creak a lot which was not welcomed as 3 of the kids were up to watch the sunrise the first morning and as a result, we were all up. The second night we were woken in the middle of the night by a smoke alarm. The basement level of this property has a very distinct musty smell and the carpet needs replacing or at the very least a good cleaning. Having given my honest review, it is unfortunate that Shawn, the owner decided to hold a portion of our damage deposit. Shawn claimed we "tore" the towel bar from the wall in the upstairs bathroom, which was not the case. I believe one of the kids hung a beach towel and it failed and I did not catch this before we left. It is unfortunate but the innuendo that we "tore" it out is a misrepresentation of the kind of people we are. Perhaps the towel bar just had a faulty install and after "hearing" the hardwood floors all weekend and seeing toilet paper dispensers hanging by a thread, it is a distinct possibility. I didn't see any spill on the lower level carpet but he said there was so I
can only say it is his word against mine. We paid a lot per night and were underwhelmed mainly due to the unreturned charges to our damage deposit. We left the property very clean, treated it as if it were our own home and did not feel any of the deposit should have been withheld.
I am disappointed that the stay was anything less than a joyous experience, which should happen for every guest. Below is my assessment of the stay.
Damages. A towel bar was forcibly removed from a bathroom wall. The wall was damaged in the process, making it unusable without repairing the holes in the wall. If my choice of words was objectionable I apologize for that. But regardless of the word used to describe it, there was actual damage necessitating repairs. As for its installation, about 10 years ago, the entire interior was removed down to the studs and was remodeled by a reputable builder, including installing the towel bar. It has been regularly used since then without any issue. I believe that is a strong indication that it was installed correctly. A 6-8 inch stain on the carpeting was new after the guests rental and was still wet days later. It was not damp, rather it was wet and it had an oder. The carpet had to be cleaned to remove it. Fortunately, the carpet cleaners did a great job - the stain came out completely and it looks and smells like new. She is correct that there was another stain on the carpet, but not a musty smell. Because of the other stain, I initially withheld less than 20% of the carpet cleaning cost. After the guest said that the stain was not from them, I offered to reverse that charge. But they refused and demanded that only a complete refund of their deposit was acceptable because they believed that the towel bar/wall damage should not be charged to them. They were charged $110 for the damages and $90 was returned to them.
While complete satisfaction is always my goal, sometimes it isn't possible. Before agreeing to the rental and before seeing the property, the guest explained to me why the property was not worth the nightly rate and that I should charge them less. Nonetheless they agreed to rent because they said that they could not find another house with lake frontage. In retrospect, starting with that frame of mind may have made it easier to come to the conclusions in the review. I am truly sorry that the stay was less than perfect. But I wish them all the best in finding satisfaction in future rentals with others on VRBO.
Beautiful property. Great home. Wonderful location.
Very Convenient to Downtown Elkhart Lake
Home was very clean, spacious and within walking distance to everything in the Downtown area. The VRBO listing said there was no Wifi, so we knew that going in. However, there is also no TV/cable which was a surprise. Kitchen was updated and well equipped, large dining area and outside seating. There are 3 bathrooms, but one of the baths is on the ground floor, 2 floors down from the 2 guest bedrooms. Because we had 3 couples, one couple was going down two flights of stairs to shower instead of sharing a bath with another couple. The owner was very nice and responded quickly to any questions. I would give it a 5 star if the 3rd bathroom had been more convenient to the 3rd bedroom.
Thank you for your review. For future renters, I just want to clarify the layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms. Notably, we have two bedrooms on the second floor of our home, which share a full bathroom that has both a shower and jetted tub. On the main floor of our home, we have a bedroom with an en suite bathroom that has a large, custom tile walk-in shower with dual shower heads. And on the lower level of our home, we have a third full bathroom with a large custom tile walk-in shower.
Thank you and best regards, Laura Dunek
Clean, spacious, and fully furnished with everything you need
We loved our time in Elkhart. The location was quite and relaxing but close to everything you want for dinner and entertainment. The lake access is a huge bonus. Thank you so much!!!
Elkhart Lake Serenity
This home is not only beautiful, it is completely appointed, from the bedrooms and living rooms, to every single item you need in a chef's kitchen. The layout is perfect, with a beautiful sitting area off one side of the kitchen for enjoying coffee and breakfast in the morning, to the large dining tabel and separate large living room.... both sitting area and living room have their owns separate fire place. The basement is completely finished and perfect for teenagers to hang out and sleep in a removed area from the rest of the house. The surrounding areas is calmingly beautiful and the lake access is easy. Lastly, the location is the best on the lake, walking distance to Vic Vilage, The Ostoff (for massages) and Lake Street (dining). We have already booked our next stay here and will stay here whenever in Elkhart.
