There is a big garage and wide driveway at the back of the house. This makes renters very easy for parking cars.

The property was clean, the owners were very accomodating, and the neighborhood felt really safe.

I brought my girl scout troop to stay for a week, and we had a great time. It was nice to have a home base so close to Manhattan. Unfortunately, when we arrived the fridge needed to be cleaned out, but other than that small oversight the property was very neat and tidy. I would just make a few suggestions to the owners: perhaps they could provide an informational sheet regarding expectations upon checkout and instructions on trash removal and recycling. Also, maybe in the future they could take into account the number of people in the party to ensure that there are enough dishes, cups, & silverware. Other than those few small hiccups, they were a wonderful family to stay with, although they might want to consider putting a door at the top of their stairs for privacy. They provided us with a crockpot, which they went out and bought especially for us. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here.

Not what we paid for - unclean and uncomfortable

  • 1 of 5

Me and a friend stayed here for over three weeks, and were miserable the entire time.

-We did not even meet the owner until we were there for a week, which made us uncomfortable as no one else in the building really spoke English.

-The toilet in our bathroom broke often, and we had to constantly remind the owner to put toilet paper in there.

-We saw mice. All the time. The owner did lay sticky traps, which were thrown around in our very small room and stuck to many of our belongings. It ruined my friend's jacket.

-There was constant noise by many of the families and constant cooking in the kitchen to where we felt like we could not even use the kitchen. We were told we could use the microwave and refrigerator, but living there for three weeks made our food situation very uncomfortable.

-One of our beds had stains on the sheets and we were not offered anymore sheets or towels for our three week stay. We ended up taking the towels to a laundromat nearby so we could have some clean ones.

-The guests that stayed in the room throughout this period - there were several that came in and out - were often rude and loud.

-The WiFi did not work well inside our rooms, and as someone taking online classes it made school very difficult. I could have sat in other rooms but felt very uncomfortable around the other guests.

Our agent had contacted the owner regarding our concerns and wanting to go to another place, but a refund was refused and nothing, besides the sticky mouse traps, was done to make our stay more comfortable.

Would not recommend.

Owner's Response: The comments were not objective. (1) I went to meet these two guests on the same day when i finished work in the evening. They were not in the room. (2) For the first 2 weeks, there were only 1 tenant in the other room. It was quiet at 2nd floor, so these two tenants enjoyed using one big bathroom by themselves while the other tenant used the other bathroom. After 2 weeks, other rooms were rented out, and these two guests felt not comfortable as before because they had to share the bathroom with others. This made them not happy. (3) They asked their agent to cancel the booking prior to their check-in date because they had other arrangement, but they never asked for cancellation after their check-in. (4) I met them several times and I speak perfect English. They never raised any issues except the noisy tenants in other room. We can not control other tenants if they have children, and most of time, other tenants were not in the house. (5) They should manage their expectation. They paid a tiny portion of hotel expenses by living in our house, and should not expect they can get a service like hotel facility.

It suited our purpose perfectly...a place to rest after travelling all day in NYC

  • 5 of 5

Overall is was a good experience and Kathy was excellent at responding to text requests. The room was adequate for our needs and the beds were comfortable. It was quiet and the room was air conditioned. The neighborhood seemed very safe to walk around both at night and day. Their were visitors that came and went and they were all very friendly. Just perfect for a week visit to NYC and all we needed was a place to sleep.

I would stay again

  • 5 of 5

I had a group of 18 who ended up renting out the entire second floor for about a week and a half. Needles to say, that's a lot of bodies at one time. Cathy was extremely helpful getting things figured out and booked even before we started going through the website, she was considerate about the amount of people hand coming, and what kind of budget we were on.

When we arrived, everything was cleaned and tidy for our arrival. The kitchen had plates and utensils and the bathrooms were stocked with toilet paper and even towels for showering. The kitchen was completely functional and helped keep our group fed. We had a lot of things to do around the New York area so we would leave early and come back late. Our group was given a multimedia of keys (One per room) that let us get back whenever we needed to.

Even when our schedule changed last minute on our last day, Cathy was flexible and let us check out a little a later. Without her and her team we wouldn't of been able to have such an awsesme trip. It let us almost be completely stress free about housing.

The only problem we had was locating the home. The address on the Homeaway account was incorrect. We ended up arriving at the wrong location and had to contact Cathy for the correct one. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.

Great cost/value!

  • 5 of 5

We really had a great time at Kathy's.

Property was cleaned daily, the owner had great customer service, really helpful.

The size of our room was great for two people, would have been a bit more narrow for more.

Really safe neighborhood, 10 min walk to the nearest subway, 15 min to the best coffe place in brooklyn, D&D:)
