'The Pines' Is The Perfect Log Cabin Getaway In The Beautiful Jemez Mtns.

Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom Cabin With Mountain Views.

Relax at this quaint but spacious 1950's log cabin nestled in the Ponderosa pines at nearly 8,000 feet.

You won't want to leave the front porch with its view of a relaxing meadow and towering Redondo Peak. Oh, and your senses will be filled with the beauty of the pines. We even provide the coffee for your cozy mornings on the porch.

The four bedrooms sleep eight comfortably, but which room will you choose? The Log Cabin Room? Flower room? Bird room? or Western room? They are all decorated just for you.

The Pines is located within 2 miles of trout fishing, hiking, a convenience store, and Spence Hot Springs. It's just a short drive to Jemez Falls, Soda Dam, Fenton Lake, Valles Calderas and the town of Jemez Springs.

This updated cabin is stocked with internet, toys, a record player, records and flat screen TV with 150 DVDs ready to watch. A land line phone with unlimited calls (within the US) is available since cell phone service is sketchy in the area - hope you remember how to use a rotary dial phone.

The property has a propane grill and two fireplaces - one electric and one wood-burning. Stocked with most cooking utensils and appliances and even some basic condiments, you'll be cooking up a storm in no time. A washer and dryer are available for use, but there is no dishwasher, so roll up your sleeves.

The cabin is the perfect place for a family gathering, group get-together or a couple's romantic getaway. Snuggled at the end of a neighborhood, we ask that you respect our neighbors by keeping noise down.

You may see an elk, bobcat or deer mosey through the area. But, don't leave food outside for bears visit too.

Remember - this is a rustic, 65-year-old log cabin in the middle of the woods. It is not a pristine city resort. And that's why it's so charming.

About Martha Landes

I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduated from OU, then was a public school music teacher for 20+ years. We moved to South Dakota for 5 years where my husband was a dean at South Dakota State University and I worked as a community coach, before landing permanently in Rio Rancho, NM in 2011. Now, we both write - he writes screenplays while I write mystery novels.

As a child, my family had a cabin in Missouri that we escaped to on a regular basis. It was always a place to rejuvenate. Now that I'm a New Mexico resident, I can't get back to Missouri very often, and missed having that relaxing getaway.

So, we bought this charming log cabin in the Jemez Mountains to do just that. After fixing it up, we decided it needed to be shared with others and are renting The Pines out during the times we aren't enjoying the amazing Jemez Moutains ourselves.

We hope you will consider this relaxing place as much as we do.

Martha Landes purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Martha Landes chose New Mexico

The Pines is unique in that it feels secluded, but is fairly close to other homes. It's only 50 beautiful miles from Rio Rancho, 60 from Albuquerque and 40 miles from Los Alamos.

The Jemez mountains have so many amazing places to explore. This property is in the perfect location - At 7,850 feet elevation, it's 15 degrees cooler than Albuquerque with no traffic noise, and lots of green surrounding the property.

What makes this cabin unique

The cozy feel of 'Grandma's House' is what hit me when I first saw this place - with the charming 1950's bones. After updating the property, it is still reminiscent of the old days, but with most of the modern conveniences we are accustomed to now.

We love sitting on the front porch with a drink in hand visiting and watching nature, or take a walk down the gravel road. It's very therapeutic.

Best location but the lodging could have been better

  • 3 of 5

The location of the cabin and town were beautiful and amazing. Our families had a wonderful time and we enjoyed the friendly neighbors and the family friendly things to do in the town. The cabin was beautiful and our first impression was amazement of its unique style and feel. Our only problem with the cabin was we wished it was a little cleaner, sprayed for bugs and had mouse traps laid. We understand that you're bound to see spiders and mice but we killed two black widows in the bathrooms that our small children were using and had mice run across the living room one afternoon upon returning to the cabin. We would definitely stay at this cabin again if it was kept a little cleaner in the future (including all the spider webs removed from all over the living areas).

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback, Robert. I will check for the source of the spiders. I had taken the interior mousetraps/poison away before your visit because I knew you would have children and didn't want them getting hurt. It's a 65-year-old rustic cabin in the woods. Unfortunately, critters do get inside. When we see evidence, we take care of it, but obviously we can't be there every day to check. Otherwise, I'm glad you enjoyed our cabin!

fun, relaxing--BUT......

  • 4 of 5

Works out great for our large family, lots of room. Pretty and relaxing setting however the cleanliness is lacking. I know its a rustic cabin and there are critters and such but the mouse droppings were still in the kitchen cupboards from the last time we were there. There are ceiling webs and dead bugs in corners and window sills. A thorough cleaning would be great.

Owner's Response: We do clean out the cabinets regularly, but the critters seem to come back. We will address the problem more diligently. Thank you for your input.

I will definitely be booking another “Mountain Cruise” aboard The Pines!!!

  • 5 of 5

BETTER THAN A BALCONY CABIN ON A CRUISE.

Cruising used to be my favorite type of vacation... No More!

No waiting in long lines with hundreds of people for practically everything, no mandatory gratuities, no exorbitant prices for liquor or soft drinks, choosing your own companions at meals and activities, no constant announcements over the loudspeaker, and no possibility of falling over the railing and drowning. Better views too... not to mention a whole lot cheaper!

We all had an idyllic time sitting out on the porch, chatting almost non-stop, gazing out at the meadow, trees, Redondo Peak, and the clouds during the day and the Milky Way most nights (and the most amazing full moon rising over the treetops that lit up the entire meadow). My companions got out and about, taking advantage of the attractions in the area, but I spent virtually my entire time blissfully on that porch.

I love this place

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed at this cabin three times now, and we completely love this place. There is absolutely a full kitchen and you will find everything you need. The inside is decorated very thoughtfully and the best part of this place is the front porch which overlooks a mountain meadow surrounded by ponderosa pines with mountain peaks in the background. The view is so glorious that I can just spend hours looking at it and soaking it in. The kid's room is my second favorite part of the cabin- I love seeing my kids play with vintage toys that were similar to my own in the 80's! We took the kids up to the fish hatchery and enjoyed a trout dinner! The owners are communicative and helpful...Highly recommended!
