The Laurel is a one-suite bed and breakfast with private bath and sunroom located in the heart of Mid-City. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Endymion Mardi Gras Parade are both a 10-minute walk away. The French Quarter and Central Business District are just a 10-minute drive away. There is a bus stop and the street car (trolly) line within walking distance (5 minutes) which runs to both of these destinations. It is in a residential neighborhood and is only a 5-minute walk to City Park and The New Orleans Museum of Art.
Our rate is based on double occupancy. There is an additional charge of $30/person per night for more than 2 persons. The double size sleeper sofa in the sunroom is available for guest #3 & #4.
We offer a continental breakfast of croissants, muffins, assorted pastries, orange juice, coffee/tea. Special requests for non-cooked items are welcomed (yogurt, cereal, etc).
There is plenty of on-street parking and off-street parking is available upon request.
The home is a beautiful 2-story stucco structure with a red Spanish tile roof. It is architecturally unique and interesting with its arched doorways and doors. The original structure is intact with very few changes to the original design. There are original wood floors and ceramic tiles which have been beautifully restored. The long center hallway serves as the perfect photo gallery for Eliot's photos.
The raised front porch and the front courtyard-style patio is wonderful and a great place to just sit and do nothing. The corner lot offers a beautiful view of the peaceful surroundings of the neighborhood.
Guests can enjoy City Park's Museum of Art, botanical gardens and new walking park.
Laura and Eliot Kamenitz have owned and resided in their home since May 1995. They are the fifth and current owners of this 1924 raised cottage-style house. Laura is a Chemical Engineer and Eliot is a professional Photographer.

Wonderful location, welcoming hosts
We usually stay in French Quarter or Warehouse District hotels when we're in New Orleans, but this time we decided to try something different, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. Elliott and Laura made us feel very much at home, and their B&B is on a quiet street with a shaded patio that we took full advantage of -- the spring weather was way too nice to stay indoors! Built around 1925, the house has some really nice architectural details, and they've furnished it with a fascinating collection of artwork, photographs and exotic items from their travels overseas. The bedroom and adjacent sunroom were beautifully furnished, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was immaculate.
New Orleans is deservedly famous for its restaurants, but if you only eat in the Quarter you're REALLY missing out on some wonderful meals. We ate very well at several nearby restaurants they recommended (try the quail at Café Degas and the fried oyster tacos at Santa Fe!), and we were within walking distance of City Park and the trolley (although weekend service can be uneven). Breakfast is continental style, but that suited us well.
Would we stay there again? Absolutely. Great service in a great setting, and full value for the money.
Thank you so much Margaret for taking the time to write a detailed and fantastic review!! We very much enjoyed your visit with us and are so happy to know we met your expectations! We look forward to another visit from you :).
Quick Spring Break trip
My wife and I stayed at The Laurel during our first trip to NOLA. The house is a wonderful, inviting place to stay and Laura and Eliot are gracious and knowledgeable hosts. The location is in a cool, quiet neighborhood close to the Park, restaurants, bars, the bus, and the trolley.
Thank you so much for the great review! We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your visit with us at the Laurel :)
Only observation was a “dated” TV but otherwise a delightful stay & great Host & Hostess
Great B&B with kind and helpful hosts.
We had a great time in New Orleans. Laura and Eliot were awesome hosts. They have a beautiful home and the location was great for our needs. Laura was even so kind as to drop us off close to the start line of our race. We enjoyed exploring on our own and Laura answered any questions and provided suggestions for restaurants and music off the beaten path. It was a wonderful weekend for us.
Thank you so much Shavon for the wonderful review!! We thoroughly enjoyed your stay at the Laurel. We were also very impressed with your endeavor to take on the marathon :). Hope to see you again for your next New Orleans experience!
