When you are in Venice, particularly in this home, you feel history, it is in the middle of everything, precisely between Piazza San Marco and Ponte di Rialto bridge. The apartment faces on one side the canal, where Gondolieri might occasionally sing a venetian song as they glide by, on the other side a very quiet courtyard with a centuries old well, and on the third side it faces the Campanile di San Marco. The area is called the 'sestriere' of San Marco, the oldest of of six 'sestrieri' that compose the city of Venice.
Surrounded by the artistic treasures of Venice, easy access to public transport, the point of departure for walks to all the most suggestive areas of interest: museums, art filled churches, romantic canals, bridges and historic squares. The apartment sits a few hundred meters from Calle XXII Marzo, the fashionable shopping zone. Across the Rialto bridge are the famous 'bacari', venitian wine bars that provide tapas-like servings, and until lunchtime, you can stroll by the Mercato di Rialto, the centuries old central fish market, where you will see an explosion of colourfull fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and obviously the best the sea has to offer, all this facing the Canal Grande, the main water artery that crosses like a snake through the center of Venice.
Lovely apartment with thoughtful touches like robes, a good hair dryer and breakfast the first day. Kind owner. Water pressure in one of the two showers was too low. Other than that, no issues. Very pleased. Be warned, it is a fourth floor walk up, but Just being in Venice requires climbing stairs at all the bridges, so it was just part of the experience for us.
My daughter and I stayed in this well-appointed apartment in a charming old building on a small courtyard near the Rialto Bridge. The location is phenomenal: an easy walk to San Marco Square and the local vaperetto (ferry) stop. (If you're there for several days, I recommend buying a vaporetto pass as you will use it a lot.) It's on the top floor so I don't recommend it for anyone who can't climb a few flights of stairs. (There's a lift for the luggage.) The living room/dining room/kitchen area look out on 2 canals and we enjoyed having coffee while watching Venice's version of morning rush hour as gondolas glided past each other while commercial boats made deliveries. We shared a nice sized bedroom with two twin beds (they can be converted to a king), but we had two bathrooms so my teenage daughter was able to spread out. (If you have a teenage daughter, you understand what a plus this is.) The bedroom looks out on the quaint courtyard and has black-out shutters. The apartment has air-conditioning and wifi, both a must. The owner, Katyna, was very communicative and friendly. She lives in LA so I was able to ask her questions via text before we left. Her greeter, Emma, was there to meet us. She was very nice though she speaks almost no English so I recommend going through Katyna regarding anything detailed. We needed a porter the morning of our departure and Katyna helped us arrange it as well as recommending a ferry service to the airport. (Make sure you use a porter to and from the ferry. We found out the hard way when we lugged our heavy bags up and over 2 bridges in the heat when we arrived.) I recommend you visit Murano (glass) and Burano (lace and charming, brightly colored houses), both accessible by vaporetto. Also, enjoy the fabulous gelato at Venchi, literally around the corner from the apartment. Overall, I highly recommend this lovely apartment and would stay there again.
Very nice apartment in a beautiful old building close to San Marco Sq and the Rialto bridge. Nice extras with good a/c, wifi and a washer dryer. Definitely recommend and would look to stay here again on a return visit.
This is a well maintained apartment in a good location in Venice. The apartment is well furnished and quite comfortable. We recommend it to anyone staying in Venice. The owner is very helpful, the apartment has a good library and has helpful information on Venice. It is also very quiet!
What a dream stay we had in this beautiful apartment. The location is hard to believe - canals on 2 sides, steps away from St. Mark's, yet quiet and calm. Each morning our breakfast coffee was accompanied the calls of the gondoliers as they bobbed past below the living room windows. The apartment is on the top floor of a typically old Venetian building, full of character. Little luxuries made it feel like a hotel - fluffy white slippers and robes, chocolates on the pillows - but thoughtful touches also made it feel very much like home - instructions to the nearest supermarkets, tips on things to see and do. We alternated between sampling the many restaurants nearby, and cooking our own meals with the glorious local produce.
At every stage, Katyna was the perfect hostess; responsive to all communications and eager to make sure we had a faultless experience. I recommend this place without hesitation.
For centuries, tournaments, spectacles and other important events were held in Piazza San Marco. Now, on a summer's evening you can sit outside the Caffè Quadri and join the strains of the wonderfoul orchestra music, or on a dark winter's evening, hundle into a corner of the caffè Florian and, through 18th century speckled mirrors, admire de candlelit of the original frescoes, with coffe served on huge antique silver platters. Turning away from the Piazza, within secconds, you are in quiet side streets and calli, on your way home... ' a casa'
You can get there either from Rialto or from San Marco.
If you come during the summer you can also enjoy the enormous beach of the Lido, where the famous Venice Film Festival takes place during september.
Venice is famous for the Murano glass and the carnevale Masks, but you will also find the must stunning italian design boutiques just a few minutes walk from the appartment.
San Marco Cathedral, The Doges Palace, Palazzo Gritti, Gughenhim museum, La salute, Murano. Venice is full of cultural thing's to do and places to discover.
You can visit the secret gardens. You must go to the Rialto market, it is really an experience.
The tradition in Venice for aperitivo are the Bàcari and Ciccheti, is a convivial and comfortable place where wine and food served in small portions, you can find the must genuine ones around the Rialto Market around 6.30 pm.
