This secluded villa on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific is surrounded by thousands of acres of virgin forest and is perfect for three couples or a large family. The main house has two master suites, 3 1/2 baths & a small media room. The living area opens to a “Lake Como” style veranda that looks down on a beautiful cove and also has spectacular mountain views….as does the open air covered dining area. The large pool is set between the casita and the main house. The casita has the identical views with the third bedroom/bath and is complete with kitchen & sitting area. If you are looking for a real getaway that is totally private with fantastic views, you will not find anything better. There is a guarded entry at the entrance to the project and a 4 kilometer scenic drive to the house. We are located half way between Nosara & Samara and only 3 kilometers from the small fishing village of Garza. The private beach inside the project is just a 1 kilometer walk down the hill from our house. If you like tennis, horse back riding, surfing, canopy rides, or playing bridge it’s just a 25 minute drive to Nosara. There are several small quaint restaurants in Garza, but many in the near by tourist towns of Nosara and Samara. Get away from the tourist scene and have a secluded and romantic setting only minutes from restaurants and fun activities. The regular price includes both the main house and the casita. Contact owner if you are wanting to rent only the main house. There will be a caretaker on the property and maid that comes twice weekly and a resident dog. Why Jim and Linda Wall chose Canton of Nicoya
We actually saw this property on horseback ten years before it came up for sell. We fell in love with the fantastic view of the ocean and the cove. The project is so unusual because of the large lots (2+ acres) and the underground utilities, both very unusual for this area. It is just so private and secluded with a white sand beach inside the project that has no public access.
What makes this Villa unique
We designed the house to capture the spectacular views and prevailing breezes from the ocean. We enjoy the privacy of our location and the beach that has no public access. We have monkeys in the trees on occasion and frogs croaking at night in the rainy season. There are beautiful sunsets and sunrises. We know we have the best of Costa Rica. It is really paradise.

As others have stated, the drive up to the property (especially at night) can at first be daunting. However once you see that all the roads in Samara/Garza/Nosara tend to be in the same unpaved condition, it is not so unusual. It is a sanctuary of peace, quiet and nature. We saw coatamundi in the trees (my sister thought it was King Kong shaking the trees); Howler monkeys who woke us to the dawn with their calls (we even saw babies on the mom's backs); an Anteater crossing the road (a handsome man); birds, birds and more birds of all colors. At night the geckos took over calling (and those in the house ate any moths). Insects were at a minimum but the grasshopper and cricket were HUGE. The pool was a DREAM ! We swam every day even on beach days. Ample lounge chairs for the sun and towels. The kitchen was well stocked, up to date refrigerator and modern bathrooms. My friends had the downstairs bedroom with the outdoor shower and shared one afternoon with a small lizard. The wifi was very good downstairs and when we figured out it could be unplugged and moved upstairs or on the lovely patio-PERFECT. The upstairs Master is a dream with doors and windows open all around and a lovely private balcony. The upstairs outdoor dining area was inviting but we preferred to eat out on the front patio. The casita was very nice too with morning sun rising in your face (there was a drape to cover window). Again a well stocked small kitchen and good bathroom. A trundle bed for an additional person if needed. The view from the small patio and in fact, all the patios overlooked a lovely beach/cove. We found out it belongs to Mel Gibson ! The private beach is sandy but in the water it is rocky. Good for dipping in and then relaxing on under the palm trees on the deserted beach. Collected some special seashells. We loved Playa Pelada; La Luna; La Dolce Vita for dining. Marlin Bills great margarita but overpriced food-my fish was overcooked. The whole Costa Rica experience was FANTASTIC. My ONLY caveat is when it was hot and no breeze, the fans did not cool the bedrooms soon enough. Both casita and lower bedroom in particular would benefit from a portable air conditioner to make the nights more comfortable. At minimum more standing fans for casita and each bedroom.
Thank you for your kind response. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Yes, it doesn't cool down until around 9 or 10 pm in the evening so a late swim is always advisable.
Absolute perfection! Exceeded all of our expectations!
This property is every bit as fantastic as pictured and described (and beyond!). The other reviewers did a fabulous job going into detail about the amenities here so I'll be brief.
My 11 year old daughter, husband, and I stayed here during the early part of the rainy season and it was phenomenal. Sunshine during the days followed by spectacular thunderstorms at night. The jungle was lush green with tons of flowers and we had the pleasure of seeing a tribe of howler monkeys each day along the driveway as we left and returned to the villa.
Tito took excellent care to prepare the pool each morning and we took advantage of this wonderful amenity every day. It is a saltwater pool so no yucky chemicals. The water temp was perfect and it was a welcome oasis from the heat. The views are unreal.
The house feels off the beaten path in a wonderful way but is only a short drive from many great restaurants, shops and the beaches of Nosara. We enjoyed Guiones for the surfing. We drove to Samara one day and paddled sea kayaks out to a small island for some snorkeling.
It was a perfect family vacation and after exploring the surrounding area, there is no doubt that we will try to stay in this villa again on our next trip to CR.
The owners were communicative and helpful. Tito was delightful and made us feel well taken care of. Daisy is a sweet lady with a sunny disposition. We found everyone we met in the town to be friendly and helpful. Already looking at dates for our next visit!
Sunset and sunrise views - and monkeys!
Unforgettable! If you want a home with easy beach access, close to town, this is not for you. If you want an adventure and a one-of-a-kind setting, this is it. I am not a morning person, but quickly became one at this home. Waking up in the master bed, you can look right out to the sunrise. Howler monkeys announce the upcoming sunrise, and it is amazing to sit with a cup of coffee on the patio, overlooking the mist in the valleys and the ocean.
The house is well-stocked, and the pool is a great addition. Tito helped with everything - including finding our friend who got lost hiking the first day. He doesn't speak English, but we were able to communicate with google translate on our cell phones. Daisy, the house cleaner, was great and very sweet. Our friend found what was a plantain, and when we asked Daisy what it was, she not only told us but fried some up for us. Delicious!
The road to the house is not for the faint of heart. 15 minutes on rough roads with many switch backs, but that's part of the adventure. The nearest town is Garza, about 5 minutes from the bottom of the driveway. Nosara and Samara (our favorite) are also relatively close and worth visiting. Prepare to drive across a river on the way to Samara!
This house is so remote, there is plenty of wildlife. We watched howler monkeys climb through the trees every day. Birds are everywhere. Coatis come right up to the edge of the patio and forage every morning. I'll admit I was hesitant to sleep with the doors open at night, but the breeze was worth it (just be sure to keep the lights off). At night, there are more stars visible than you can imagine.
After leaving, we stayed at a home on a beach with paved roads nearby. I didn't realize how much I appreciated this house until we left. It really is magical and a one-of-a-kind property. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for your great review. All the reasons you mentioned is the reason we love to be there. It is the perfect way to visit Costa Rica.
A unique experience
We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful villa. But our first impression was a little scary. We arrived at the Villa after nightfall. The 4 kilometer drive up the approach road was daunting; Switchbacks and steep inclines. We were wondering if the decision of renting this house was a mistake. Then we arrived at the Villa; a pretty glowing jewel set upon the cliff top. The house is light and airy. French doors upstairs and down, open wide to the sounds and views of the jungle and sweeping views of the Pacific. The house is nicely appointed with comfortable furnishings inside and out. The grounds, pool, jacuzzi and Casita are beautifully maintained.
We were greeted by Tito, a pleasant and hard working caretaker ( who bent over backwards to help in any way) and the house dog, Silvie. Both, pleasant surprises. The house felt like a home.
Sunrise is the most special. Just before dawn, the Howler Monkeys start their serenade. You wake to the sunrise over the tranquil Pacific; the Villa is cool, breezy and inviting. Due to how the Villa sits on the land, you actually get sunrise and sunset. For sunset you take your cocktail behind and above the Casita and sit in a sitting area, whose purpose is sunset.
The Villa is somewhat isolated. You will need a four wheel drive to negotiate the local roads and the driveway. If you are OK with a little 4 wheeling, this house is right for you. 20 minutes to Samara, 20 minutes to Nosara; both are easy drives. Garza, 2K from the entrance has a great swimming beach and a couple of local restaurants on the beach.
Overall, the Villa was a wonderful experience. Just be sure that this kind of setting is what you are looking for, and you'll have a great time!
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. You captured the essence of why we love our home there. It is a true get away and the perfect way to enjoy Costa Rica.
The villa is everything they say it is in their listing! We've had a great stay!
The place is fantastic! The roads are rough but you get used to them. Be sure to use only the fluorescent lights in the kitchen and the led lights in the wall sconces at night or you will have a lot of visitors of the insect variety! We enjoyed our stay here immensely! Can't wait to return!
Located inside a 1300 acre project, we are 4 kilometers from our gated entrance at the main road. It is so quiet here that the only outside noise would be from the birds & monkeys waking you in the morning. A short walk down the hill from the house you can experience a totally private beach that has no public entrance. We moved to Nosara 18 years ago when it was just a quiet little town. We fell in love with the beauty of the landscape, the friendly people, and the peaceful life style. With all the development and now a year round tourist season, it is no longer that quant little town. So we found an ideal location outside of Garza with the beauty and quaintness we appreciate. The lots are 2+ acres, cannot be subdivided, have underground utilities, and are surrounded by virgin forest. There are balmy breezes off the ocean and it’s nice not to have to contend with the dust from the dirt roads. We enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of a tourist town and still having all the amenities with less than a 30 min. drive. The only sounds are from nature and the ocean waves hitting the shore. Overlooking the ocean and within walking distance of a totally private beach is so special. We have great sunsets and sunrises. Our spectacular view was just icing on the cake. Our home is secluded and private and inaccessible to uninvited guests with a locked and manned entrance. If you value your privacy and security, it is the perfect location.
