Why Valerio chose San Mauro Cilento

Located in the Resort Canale of San Mauro Cilento, an old stone farmhouse overlooking the inviting calm of the surrounding hills. Built entirely of local stone in the second half of 1800 on a plot already patrimony of the Church of Rome (year 1000 - 'Patrimonium Sancti Petri - XII condoma'), 'Il Canale 1861' has been carefully restored in its antiquity respecting the standards and Technical edificatoria era of origin. The unspoiled nature, the olive trees, the air clear and healthy, the 'glance' of the sea, hills and mountains make the place as enchanted and suspended in time. The villa, 376 meters above sea level, with all the comforts, is structured in three levels, the last of which is in the attic. A characteristic 'barnyard' offers bright sunny days and nights full of stars.

What makes this villa unique

A wonderful landscape in the heart of the Cilento National Park. Sea, Hill, Mountain: a complete and relaxing vacation.

Stunning house!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in August in San Mauro Cilento. The house is absolutely stunning with the beautiful views over the hills and sea. The property was very clean and extremely well maintained. Valerio, the owner, was very helpful and kind as we have a lost baggage problem (flying with Alitalia).

I would recommend the property to someone wishing to have a peaceful holidays away from hassle and noisy town.

There are beautiful beaches in Acciaroli. It is worth going to Paestum to see the ruins.

A car is a must!

Il Canale1861 a beautiful rental

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 10 days at Il Canale 1861 in San Mauro Cilento Italy . A lovely property which was found to be exactly as described . Well maintained with fantastic views of the sea & mountains from the garden. The covered eating area was a real bonus both in the heat of the day & in the evening.

I would suggest some basic kitchen items (oil ,salt, pepper, etc) would be appreciated by guests .

We found mosquitos a problem in the double bedroom so plug-in is a necessity.

A very enjoyable holiday in a beautiful property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. All suggestions are always well appreciated. We will always try to improve the comfort for our guests, including the "fight" to mosquitoes and the construction of a swimming pool set in the olive grove.

Lovely house with panoramic views

  • 5 of 5

We had a really good week at Il Canale 1861. The house was very clean and everything worked. There were a few insects but we enjoyed watching the lizards and butterflies. We particularly enjoyed the drive from Salerno to Sorrento along the Amalfi coast and also the local coastal towns and villages. Annarita was very friendly and helpful and so were all the people we met. The weather was gorgeous with only a little rain and the views from the house across the valley and also to the sea below were fantastic. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. In the country. it's hard not to have to deal with mosquitoes but we are working to reduce this annoying problem. Certainly we improve every day comforts for our guests: we love this land that deserves to be appreciated abroad.

Ein wunderschönes Grundstück mit Weitblick

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the tips: - The internet provider has been changed: it is now more reliable; - It will be further improved reception service and enriched the minimum equipment and towels; - Unfortunately, the heating costs are due to the price of LPG gas in Campania and are calculated  according to consumption without bonuses from us.  Generally from April to December there is no need of heating, just a fireplace for cooler days of  autumn.

San Mauro Cilento is an ancient and hospitable village of less than a thousand inhabitants, located between Salerno (80 Km) and Palinuro (50 Km). The country, a romantic maze of streets and squares in the sea terrace, situated on the slopes of Mount Stella and is divided into districts and hamlets: Casalsoprano (550 meters above sea level), Casalsottano (460 meters above sea level) and Mezzatorre (the marina) are the most important. The highest point (Casalsoprano) is just 8 km from the sea and about 15 km from the summit of the mountain. Documented with certainty, 'Sancto Mauro' already existed in 1092, but its foundation is traced back to the Lombard rule (VIII Century - Gastaldato di Lucania). In 1441 Rogerio Palaeologus, Prince of Byzantium, established his residence (Palazzo Palaeologus). Sea, hills and mountains where flora, fauna, culture and Mediterranean diet come together in a holiday dedicated to relaxation and nature.
