About the property

Outstanding Private Home in Rural Location.

This listing is for occupancy of the entire ground floor living area including all three bedrooms. Fine Art House is located on 10 acres nestled in the hills of south central Pennsylvania and is owned and operated by a retired professional photographer. Surrounded by woods and horse pastures, peace and quiet is abundant. Every room is an art gallery filled with fine art canvas. With 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, living room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and a newly added game room, there's enough room for the entire family! In the summer you can sit out on the wood deck and watch the squirrels play, listen to the birds chirp or watch the horses graze while enjoying the sun and sipping on your favorite beverage. If you just want to hang out, enjoy the game room which features a 7 foot slate pool table, shuffleboard, foosball and darts. There are also many board games and decks of cards for you to enjoy! Centrally located, Fine Art House is convenient to a multitude of activities. Just 10 minutes south is York, the first capital of the United States. York is the home of Harley Davidson, the York Revolution baseball team, and the countries oldest county fair which is held in September. York is well known for it's downtown farmer's market and it hosts the Street Rods National East event in June. For all of you wine connoisseurs there are several local wineries! Fifteen minutes north is Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania. Harrisburg is the home of the Harrisburg Senators baseball team, the Civil War Museum, fine dining, exciting nightlife and art shows. Five miles north of Harrisburg is the Rockville Bridge which the world's longest stone arch railroad bridge. The Hollywood Casino and Penn National Racetrack is 45 minutes away. Gettysburg and it's battlefields are just 45 minutes away. Also just 45 minutes away is Lancaster County, home of the Amish and the Strasburg Railroad Museum. Baltimore with it's famous Inner Harbor is an hour away and Philadelphia is just 2 hours away. Hershey, the famous chocolate town, home of Hershey Chocolate, Hershey Amusement Park and Chocolate World is only 30 minutes away. Ski Roundtop, just 20 minutes away, caters not only to skiers in the winter but to a host of summer activities such as zip lines, paintball, bumper boats and more. Several 18 hole public golf courses are within a 15 minute drive. Gifford Pinchot State Park, just fifteen minutes away, offers boating, swimming, hiking and bird watching opportunities. Boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing opportunities abound on the mighty Susquehanna River and a boat launch is just 20 minutes away. For bird watchers, the famous Conowingo Dam, home of one of the best places in the east to photograph Bald Eagles, is a mere hour away. Photographers from all over the country flock to Conowingo Dam in late November and early December for the Eagles as well as October through March for many other bird species. I also cater to horse people. If you have horses, I have several stalls available if you want to bring them along for an extra fee. There are 30 miles of trails out the back door for you to use, and trailer parking is available. For those traveling with pets, they are considered on a case-by-case basis. . Whatever your reason is for staying, you will find this an enjoyable place to stay!

Guests have access to the entire ground floor living area and the entire outdoor property and have their own private entrance.

Awesome location! Great for kids

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful experience! The kids loved the horses and looking at all of the beautiful photos. It was like staying in a gallery. The house was well stocked and Michael (owner) was great! Couldn't have asked for better!!

Rustic Charm of York with a quiet country setting.

  • 4 of 5

This house has a lovely country setting on a horse farm. I enjoyed seeing the horses every day and taking long walks in the woods. My dog loved the woods as well. Mike was very responsive to anything we needed and had the house stocked with all the basics. It was also fun to have access to the garage that was turned into a game room. We played pool, shuffle board and foose ball. The house was clean and my only criticism was that there was no free WiFi at the house. You could get access with a credit card and cell reception is very good at the house. The other thing to be aware of is that there is a renter in the basement apartment. We had no issue at all of course but you could hear him. Just something to be aware of. We certainly appreciated Mike sharing his home. He is a very nice guy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very nice review Trudy! I am very pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay! My goal, as I highly rated host (I'm rated as a "Superhost" on another site), is to do everything possible to ensure that my guests have an exceptionally enjoyable stay at my home! I have been hosting for nearly five years now. With respect to the WIFI, it actually is free. It has been for several months now so I was initially confused by the comment. Then I realized that I didn't change the WIFI information in the welcome book. I will change that and also include the password for future guests! I apologize for any sounds that you may have heard from the basement apartment. As you know, my property manager lives down there and, as you discovered, he’s a very helpful person, if needed. You are the first guest to leave a comment with respect to sounds and I have had more than 100 reviews over the past 4+ years. I will be sure to immediately address the issue! Once again, I am very pleased that you had a wonderful stay and thank you for choosing my home for your getaway! Best regards, Mike!

Lovely Horse Ranch and Home!

  • 4 of 5

Lovely, spotlessly clean home! Very well stocked with everything you’d need plus a complimentary bottle of wine and farm fresh eggs! Owner is friendly and next door if you need anything. Nice photos add charm to the home. Lots of horses out back too. Close to Harrisburg and a nice state park. Dog friendly!!

The home is very clean and we enjoyed our stay. However, if you are looking for a private getaway, there are renters in the bottom level and the owner lives next door in a RV. This did not bother us, but he needed access to the back porch to his computer and printer. We did love the horses in the pasture, which was bordering the home. Very sweet! Also, if you are visiting Hershey Park, it is a 45 minute drive at least.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback! And thank you for letting me access my computer. That was very nice of you. I had a situation that needed to be taken care of and being able to use my computer was the only way that I could do it. Being that it's located in the sun porch, which has a separate entrance, should have made it non intrusive to you. This is the first time that this has happened and I have taken steps to ensure that it won't happen again. There were no renters here other than yourselves. Someone must have heard me working in the basement and assumed that there were renters down there. You must have run into some traffic on your Hershey trip. It normally takes 35 minutes to get there. Speaking of traffic, I hope that you had an enjoyable trip home and I hope you enjoyed the bottles of wine that you drank from my collection while you were here!

Beautiful views and a great host!

The Fine Art House was a really cool property and Mike was fantastic. The proximity to all the places we wanted to go was great and the horses were absolutely amazing. I really appreciated that we did not have to bring our own linens and that the kitchen was stocked with all of the basics that we needed. Definite thumbs up!
