More like a cabin...VERY rustic
Although we can see where they've improved the place a LOT, it's rather cute and quirky, there are still some things that were not quite up to standard.
The cleaning of the place was okay, but not thorough. At first glance, it looked fine. Sheets and towels were clean, bathrooms shiny. As we looked into cupboards, looked up, or opened blinds during our stay however, there were cobwebs everywhere! Things were also cracked or broken. Some of the skylights had tarps over them. The half-sized coffee pot (that still had moldy coffee grounds in it) was a NO GO. I didn't use it. I made other arrangements for our morning coffee.. Maybe this rental gets less use in the winter, but given that cleaning is a part of the fees we pay for rental, I expected better.
The owners left us instructions not to ingest the tap water, then left a gallon and a 24 pk of bottled water for drinking and cooking. That was surprising and wouldn't have been near enough for 5 people if I had truly been cooking meals there! We made it work, but again, not quite up to standard. I would have liked to know that I needed to bring my own water (and standard size coffee pot).
The yellow bedroom had no heat. It was freezing in there, so we ended up not using it at all. My daughter slept in the master bedroom with us. The main bathroom next to it was just as cold, but the wall heater made that quite useable. That little sucker cranked out some HEAT! It seems as if those two rooms were not insulated or something....
Which brings us to the woodstove. The wall heater units in the living rooms and the master bedroom kept the place from being too cold, but we used the woodstove as our main source of comfort. Fine with us. We love a good fire and we have a woodstove at home, so are well familiar with using one, but I can see this being an issue for someone who isn't. The place also wasn't well stocked for lighting a fire every morning when we got up and evening when we got back to the home. We needed to chop up kindling pieces a couple of days into it, and by the last day, we would've had to go and buy a lighter or matches as we'd used what odds and ends we found available.
All in all, we made it work and enjoyed the quaint nature of the place and it's out of the way locale, but it wasn't the kind of house we thought we'd rented. We would have been more prepared (with water, lighter, etc) if we had expected a rustic cabin. It doesn't look like that from the pictures.
Quick to respond and very personable.
Michigan Bluff Weekend
very nice house in quiet neighborhood, perfect for our group outing; and the hosts were excellent!
Graet Time in CA Foothills at Motain Retreat
We had a super time completing a recon for the Western States 100. The place is right along the course and it is very rustic. If you are looking at getting away this is a place.
Older property, needs TLC and basic maintenance
The attempt is rusty chic but the feel is old and unmaintained. Water stains, missing baseboards, cobwebs, creaky stoop, can't drink the water. It just didn't feel welcoming or cozy in the least. VRBO renters expect clean environments that demonstrate pride in their properties. This one missed the mark.
Great property today get away. Quiet place to escape.
Great place overall. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. Great deck with a view. Night sky looks amazing!
