About the property

2 bedrooms and 1 bath, with a huge fenced yard - adjacent to the Rail Trail!

This is a precious little house built in the late 1940's. It has one king bedroom and one queen bedroom, sharing a totally renovated bathroom with a beautiful glass shower. There is a 40' HD flat panel tv in the living room, and another 32' in the den / laundry room. The dining room seats 6, and there is a full kitchen with all new stainless appliances. There is a full size front loading washer dryer in the den. We are trying to figure out the best way to screen them, but they are brand new and pretty nice looking, so until we have a better solution, they are being shown off! Consider it a quirk ...

The screened porch has upholstered seating for 4, and there is an outdoor patio and deck for dining al fresco! The huge fenced yard is filled with lovely old trees, nice and shady!

Since our FABULOUS Spanish Moss Rail Trail is just 4 houses away, we provide bikes and helmets and locks - and a detailed map showing additional 'back roads' to get you all over downtown and our wonderful historic district!

About Erica

We looked for 7 years - up and down the east coast - for just the RIGHT spot to move as soon as our son went off to college. We always came back to Beaufort!

Growing up in Florida, John and I spent 9 years in Houston then 23 in the DC Metro Area, where we raised our son, Ryan. It was the perfect place to raise him, but WAY too cold for us Floridians! When Ryan headed off to Syracuse (BURRRRR!) John sold his IT company and I told Marriott we were heading south. I continued to design hotels for a couple years, then we started buying our own properties and it has become a full time job renovating them and running them as Short Term Rentals. We meet the nicest guests and are having a great time! Ryan has since graduated and is a short drive away in much warmer Atlanta - and he now understands that you don't HAVE to be that COLD!

Since moving here we have become very active in this wonderful community and even introduced a Dragon Boat Festival! We just had our 2nd annual DragonBoat Beaufort Race Day in late July, bringing 28 teams (about 600 people actually on the water - a couple thousand spectators) to our glorious waterfront park for a great day of competition and FUN for a very good cause. DragonBoat Beaufort supports cancer survivors and supporters locally, in individualized ways, all over Beaufort County. You can see a great video - thank you to the Beaufort International Film Festival - at the end of the listings in the URL section. WAY COOL!!!!!

Anyway - we love Beaufort and can't wait for you to visit!

A Lowcountry Gem

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Erica and John's Hermitage House. Great yard for our two poodles, close to Downtown Beaufort and within a minute of the Spanish Moss Trail (cycling and walking). All the amenities required for a long stay are here. The Sea Islands, Hilton Head, Savannah and Charleston are easy drives away. We loved our time here!

Perfect for our visit for Marine Graduation!

Hermitage House was absolutely perfect for our needs during our recent stay in Beaufort on the occasion of my son's Marine Boot Camp Graduation. The house is very convenient to Parris Island, and although located on a quiet tree-lined street is also close to grocery stores, shops, whatever you may need. I specifically looked for a pet-friendly location as I was traveling with a small dog. The wee beast loved the large fenced-in yard, my college-age daughter enjoyed running on the Spanish Moss trail which is steps from the house, and my mother had a comfortable place to relax while I was attending events on base. We also enjoyed having our new Marine back to the house after graduation for a relaxed and “homey” luncheon, as opposed to sitting in a crowded restaurant. The rooms, kitchen, screened-in porch, everything was just lovely and well-appointed. When we arrived, the lights were on and pleasant music was playing. In fact, we were made to feel welcome from the start as the owner offered many helpful recommendations before we even arrived. When you are here for Marine Corps graduation, it is exciting and amazing but also overwhelming and exhausting. I was grateful for the serene environment provided by Hermitage House!

Cute and Comfy!

We enjoyed our stay very much. The proximity to the walking trail was great. All of the supplies in the kitchen made riding out Hermine painless. Having access to 4 bikes, the screened-in porch, the pass to the beach and the bbq grill are all great add-ons that help reduce cost while still enjoying your vacation!

The bathroom is a little small so it's impossible for more than one person to get ready at a time but it's still nicely updated. Having a washer/dryer is nice too in case you under pack, either on purpose or not :)

Great Experience

The cottage was beautifully redone. The back yard was huge with new fencing for our dog. John and Erica were gracious hosts. They answered all messages and calls promptly. They arranged dinner at the Breakwater Restaurant (great food and drink) with them and mutual friends/cohorts that I worked with at P&G in Cincinnati. The house had about every spice, condiment, coffee, sweeteners, tea, filters, etc. that we needed; even charcoal for the grill. Plenty of dishes, bowls, pots, pans and cooking tools and flat ware. Both beds slept great, the second according to my wife when I snored one night. It is in a very nice neighborhood with no fear of walking the small dog. We also ate at Pinini's(gas oven fired homemade bread for shrimp and crab sandwich and crust for pizza) , Plums(great seafood trio of fresh clams and oysters with boiled shrimp) and Q on Bay(great dry rubbed slow cooked ribs). We ate outside with our dog at the last two restaurants. I would say that this has been the best rental we have had in several via HomeAway. We will return!

This little house is in Beaufort's prestigious Hermitage Neighborhood, just 4 houses from the Spanish Moss Rail Trail - currently 3.3 miles, eventually 13.6 miles - a 12 foot wide concrete trail on an abandoned rail line. It is a beautiful ride (or walk) to Battery Creek, the historic Depot, and all the way to Port Royal. It is also an easy back road bike ride to our historic district, the waterfront park, the grocery store, and all of the downtown restaurants and shops - and we provide the bikes!

This is our first Short Term Rental outside the Historic District, and I think it will be very popular. We have spent months renovating this cute little house, and we love the neighborhood with it's beautiful trees and close proximity to everything! We are just blocks from the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Beaufort is a wonderful destination with a rich history surrounded on all sides by beautiful water. Our proximity to Charleston, Savannah, and Hilton Head makes it a convenient place to 'live' while exploring our beautiful lowcountry!
