Exactly what we needed and perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We came with 5 adults, a 4 year old, a baby, and a dog - the set up of the house was exactly what we needed. The master suite is spacious and on the opposite side of the house as the other bedrooms, so we were able to comfortably set up the baby's crib and know that we won't be waking up any one else in the house when he cried at night. Also we liked how open the living room and dining room area of the house was. The house was very clean - we didn't see a single insect. The house is on a large lot so there is plenty of privacy - we had fun hanging out and grilling in the backyard, and looking at the stars from the rooftop deck. As everyone else noted, the location is perfect - so close to the entrance of the park! We would definitely stay here again if we came back to Sequoia!

Super convenient for Sequoia NP - but bugs were a nuisance

  • 3 of 5

We were a family of 4 with 3 kids under the age of 5 and we stayed here to enjoy Sequoia NP for the long weekend. Prior to our trip, we reviewed the property information again and found a review that mentioned some bugs were seen (spiders and scorpions) so we were obviously concerned. Mary was very responsive to our concerns and assured us they would not be an issue. Upon arriving, the house seemed ok and we were definitely in a wooded area so bugs would be likely outside. However we were hopeful that they would stay outside. During the course of our stay, we did encounter some scorpions in the house in different rooms (mostly dead, two alive) so it was a bit unsettling. However, Mary was extremely helpful and understanding and obviously apologetic. There was another review about poor water pressure -

We did notice it wasn't what we were used to but there wasn't an issue for us with the exception of not being able to use the sink when someone was showering in the same bathroom. All in all, the house met our needs but the bugs did result in some anxiety.

Pros: proximity to park, amenities (washer/dryer, full kitchen with everything you need, large living space), fully functioning AC

Cons: insects in the house

DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY, BUG INFESTED, LITTLE WATER PRESSURE

  • 1 of 5

We had planned to stay 3 nights originally, but just couldn't stomach staying longer than we needed to. We cut our stay to 2 nights. I would've only stayed 1 night but we had Crystal Cave tickets on the 2nd day, which we really wanted to visit.

PROS:

1. Reasonably close to park entrance.

2. Good A/C.

CONS:

1. NO WATER PRESSURE! If you flush the toilet, you have to wait AT LEAST 15 MINUTES before there's enough water pressure to take a shower. You have to wait at least another 15 minutes after the last shower for the next person take a shower. You can't have 2 people use the toilets either simultaneously or consecutively because there wasn't enough pressure to flush a 2nd time without waiting (you guessed it) 15 minutes! There's no way to wash dishes at the same time someone is showering either. This was a HUGE inconvenience.

2. HOT WATER TOOK A LONG TIME! With such little water pressure, we couldn't afford to run the water very long, but we had to wait several minutes before any hot water reached the shower head.

3. DIRTY! Absolutely DISGUSTING! There's a ceiling fan above the dining table that was covered with thick dust. It looked like it hadn't been dusted in YEARS! See photo. We told our kids not to turn the ceiling fan on because we didn't want dust flying into our food. We opened the utensil drawer and it was just awful. It hadn't been cleaned out in a long time. Crumbs and old food remnants were everywhere. Surfaces were dusty. Looked like nothing was wiped down. The dishes and glasses in the cabinets were dirty. We had to wash everything before we used it.

4. BUGS, BUGS, BUGS EVERYWHERE! We told the owner, Mary, and her local manager, Lori, about the bugs. We got the same facetious response from both, "Welcome to the wilderness!" Uh, no. We just came from a house in Yosemite that was situated among the Ponderosa Pines and it had no bugs. Mary's house here is extremely poorly sealed. We found ANTS, EARWIGS, SILVERFISH, SCORPION, ROLLY POLLIES, SPIDERS, AND LOTS OF FLYING INSECTS (gnats, flies, mosquitos) Spiders were in many corners and on walls: family room, bedroom, and both bathrooms / tubs / shower enclosures. We found a live scorpion in the laundry room.

5. HORRIBLE COOKWARE! Most all the "nonstick" pots and pans were in terrible shape. Nonstick coating scratched.

While Mary did give us a partial refund for our stay, I would've rather not experienced any of this at all. STAY AWAY!! DONT STAY HERE!

AWESOME HOUSE!

  • 5 of 5

The house was amazing! We loved the way it was set up and the room it provided for our family of 6. The location to the park, restaurants, and a grocery store made it so convenient. We felt at home and wished we had planned to spend more days there. We especially loved the swimming hole just inside the park!
