A charming cottage in the heart of Hope Town settlement, Dunwanderin showcases its late 1800s origin yet is fully renovated and modernized with all desirable amenities. Nestled within lush native vegetation on quiet Lover’s Lane, only steps away are a beautiful ocean beach, the scenic harbor and famous lighthouse, quaint shops, eateries, grocery store, public docks, and its very own boat slip.

With friendly locals and a tranquil, family-friendly environment, Elbow Cay offers an alternative to the cruise ships, mega-resorts, “compounds”, and crowds of many Bahamian destinations.

About the owners: William and Lynn are from New Bern, NC and honeymooned on Elbow Cay in 1982. They designed, built, and maintained a popular 6-bedroom oceanfront rental house just south of town for 25 years before falling in love with and purchasing Dunwanderin. They take great pride in keeping the house in excellent condition and are constantly making improvements. Sharing their island home with renters when they are absent is their pleasure.

Fabulous house and location

It is one of the houses which survived the hurricane and is full of history and charming details. It is comfortable and very well provided. The little patio deck outside was lovely particularly in the early morning and evening. Although it doesn't have a 'view' as such, it is close to everything in Hope Town, and there are views in every direction within a few yards of stepping outside. Captain Jack's is just round the corner and Vernon's Grocery right behind. You can view the sunset within a few minutes walk to the kissing seat, and the ocean a short walk to the east, with a wonderful beach to swim in. The Lower Dock is very close and you can get the free shuttle over to the Lighthouse marina very easily. The Elbow Cay office was round the corner, so very easy to sort anything out and arrange help at departure! They couldn't have been more helpful. We would love to return - and Dunwanderin would be our first choice.

It was extremely close to the dock so getting our stuff into the house was very easy. The house was very warm and cozy and had everything we needed in it. The back porch was our favorite part, surrounded by trees and beautiful flowers.

Sweet cottage in Hopetown

It’s right in the gated settlement area and an easy walk to the beach, restaurants, shops & groceries. Everything worked well and the house is very charming. It is not a modern, large house, but that’s not what we were looking for. By far the best part of the home was the beautiful back patio and outdoor shower. I looked forward to showering under the beautiful bougainvillea and stars every night! Great water pressure and hot water! If I were to make a suggestion to the owners- put a queen size bed in the downstairs bedroom. We we a family of 4 with a teenage son and daughter. We put them in the upstairs bedrooms and took the downstairs for a little separation. The bed was a little small. The golf cart parking was a bit of a pain, but once you settle into the pace of Hopetown it’s no big deal. Wi-Fi was great. TV not so much, but we did not care.

Our adult children had the upstairs floor to themselves complete with a full bath, yet funny how we all stood in line to take a shower in the outside cabana! House cozy and clean. Kitchen fully equipped. Conveniently located behind Vernon’s Grocery and Munchies. So close to Jack’s you can walk home after a few “Jackhammers”and not get lost! Our caretaker, Francois, was kind and courteous. Thanks to all for our stay. We shall return.

The outside has a secluded deck with a table large enough for your family to enjoy. Elbow Cay

Dunwanderin is a charming property. Very quaint, historical architecture with all the modern conveniences. We came for a wedding thinking this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. After learning some history of Hope Town, all the friendly people, dining and of course the beach, I think we will be back.
