Cozy home on secluded island
We enjoyed our stay at the West Bay Lodge! It was a perfect fit for our family of 7. Plenty of room, very clean, and even had family games to play. We enjoyed sitting and reading on the screened in porch. Only note for people planning to cook for a larger group: there are limited baking and cooking dishes available, so plan to bring your own if you need something large or specialty.
Other note on the Island itself: it's this little gem tucked away from, well,, most all tourists. We had plenty of times strolling the beach where we were the only people out there! We saw lots of wildlife, including sea cows and wild horses. The nature preserve overlook on Lola Road is a wonderful spot to find shells, see crabs of various types and just watch the beach. Only negative for us was, well, the abundance of jellyfish. The first night we were there we could go swimming in the waters off the beach if we were careful. By the next day, the amount of jelly fish had increased so much that it was almost impossible to swim in the water without getting stung. We heard conflicting stories from locals we met. Some said this was unusual, some said the amount of jellyfish increases throughout the summer. For us, it made the very beautiful beach only good for wading in. Instead, we drove to Atlantic Beach - about an hour away - which was perfect and completely jellyfish free.
The cookware has been updated today! The jellyfish are prolific from early to late spring in Pamlico Sound. The summer months are much less problematic.
Was perfect for our group of 4 . Plenty of room , clean , close to the ferry . Had everything we needed
West Bay Lodge
Perfect location for our duck hunting trip in Cedar Island. Everything you need is provided. Enjoyed the stay! We will definitely be back!
I stayed with Roman 3 different times last year. Each time I was treated like family, and completely enjoyed my stay. It's clean, it's roomy, everything works and well worth the money. I liked it enough I have already booked three more visits for this coming year. Cedar Island has so much to offer, and Roman's place makes you feel right at home. Everything you could ever need is already there.
My family and I booked this home for an "End-of-Summer" weekend before the kids go back to school. We had never been to Cedar Island before, but I can promise you that we will definitely go back! The house was beautiful and we had more than enough room for our family of 5. Our 7 year old had a great time splashing in the calm clear waters of the Cedar Island Beach while my teenage sons enjoyed wade-fishing. We also booked a Charter Fishing Trip with Roman during our weekend get-away and we all had an awesome time! Roman and his wife are excellent hosts... even treating us with fresh eggs for breakfast each morning! We loved the tranquility and relaxation that Cedar Island had to offer. Our family made some very special memories this past weekend that we will cherish for a lifetime. I highly recommend not only booking this lovely home, but also requesting information from Roman regarding his fishing charters for an absolutely amazing vacation.
A little piece of heaven
Great vacation spot for sport fishing, boating, touring the islands, and just plain relaxing. The hosts were very helpful with information about the area and places to see while we were there. The house was clean and well supplied with all the necessities for a great stay. It had two decks one screened and the other for tanning, with out door furnishings to relax on. There was a pond with ducks and a gazebo to sit and watch the wildlife. The owners live next door so you never felt alone in a strange place. The beach was only 3 miles down the road for beach combing and walking. Coming from a small town in Canada this area made us feel at home the people were friendly and always said hello. I especially enjoyed the fresh eggs. Stores and restaurants were only a short drive away. We would recommend this home to whoever wants a relaxing stay. We'll be going back again. . D/C
