Until Covid-19 hit and I my bookings were affected, I was one of the top holiday homes in the area of Carcassonne on HomeAway, regularly placing at number 1 or 2. I was also a 'Premier Partner'. However, all this hard work has been lost!
This is a beautiful stone built semi-detached house. Around 200 years old in the village of Azillanet. There's a large garden (400m2), private swimming pool (8m x 4m), stone terrace and dining area and a spectacular old fig tree with a swing. The garden is south facing, so catches the sun throughout the day. The property has been sympathetically restored and tastefully furnished, retaining its original burnished oak floors and beamed ceilings. 3 large bedrooms, (one with a ladder-staircase & under-eaves sleeping), a newly refurbished bathroom and a superb open landing area are upstairs. Air conditioning has just been installed in 2 of the bedrooms. Downstairs there's another bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a generous living-dining space. Beautiful views of the village and countryside can be seen from the garden and all upstairs rooms.
The village boulangerie & cafe, 3 wine caves and two local restaurants are a few minutes stroll.
It's great to cycle through the vineyards surrounding the village. Walking and hiking trails also surround the village. Lake swimming (Lac Jouarres) is 10 min drive away, fantastic river swimming is within a 20 min drive (Agel). A supermarket, banks, cafes and other shops are only 5 minutes away in Olonzac. The fabulous Cathar village of Minerve is the next village, just over 3km away and the Unesco world heritage site of the Canal du Midi is about 5km away. The beaches of the Mediterranean are about a 35 minute drive and the old walled city of Carcassonne is a 25 minute drive. The nearest airports are Carcassonne and Beziers (40 minutes), Perpignan (1hr), Montpellier (1hr 15min) and Toulouse (1hr 45min).
