Come relax with a panoramic view of the Pamlico River in Washington, NC (the "Original Washington" later known as "Little Washington"). This waterfront home is less than 10 minutes from downtown Historic Little Washington, and 20 minutes from Historic Bath. Airports offering services from American and Delta Airlines include PGV (Greenville) 35 minutes, EWN (New Bern) 50 minutes, and RDU (Raleigh) 120 minutes away. US highways 264 and 17 intersect in Washington for easy access by automobile. It’s also just a short boat ride to the downtown Washington waterfront or Bath.
The house is located in a neighborhood established in the 1930’s with no through traffic, the layout is comfortable for a couple or up to four adults. The waterfront decks provide beautiful views throughout the year with breezes most of the time and numerous seating options. Large cypress trees and an old oak provide shade in the summer months. A private 200’ pier with sitting area and swim ladder at the end offers a great place for sunbathing during the day and watching the sunsets in the evening. Launch a kayak from the beach, swim or just float, tie-up a boat or toss a fishing line. Enjoy watching sailboats, skiers, kayakers, fishermen, birds, and even an occasional school of porpoise.
Centrally heated and cooled and having ceiling fans throughout, this fully furnished home offers a large open living and dining area providing beautiful long-range river views. The Pamlico River is part of the North Carolina estuary system that has more square miles of estuarine waters than any state on the east coast. It provides many options for enjoying the water, wildlife and nature. Whether it’s sitting by the shore side, floating in the water, or visiting nature preserves, you will find something to enjoy about it.
If you wish to bring a powerboat, per an agreement with a local marina, your boat can be launched, slipped at a floating dock, and the trailer stored in the boat yard during your stay. Arrangements need to be made at booking. Kayaks, bicycles, sailboats, jet skis and powerboat rentals are available through local boating centers and outdoor outfitters.
If you like history, both Washington and Bath are rich with it. Bath is the oldest town in North Carolina and was home to the famous pirate Blackbeard. If you are a golfer there is an 18-hole course 18 minutes away. This home is all about relaxing, beautiful views, water activities, and memories. Come make some.
Born, raised, and educated in the Eastern North Carolina. Avid boater (power and sail).
Branch purchased this house in 1998
I have boated, hunted, fished, water-skied, surfed, and explored all parts of Eastern North Carolina. Washington is central to all that I love and enjoy about it. The rich history dating back to the first explorers continues to intrigue me. The boundless beauty of the estuary system, the small town life, and its' remote, but close proximity to everything makes it a perfect get-away or base point for exploring whatever warms my heart. Most importantly, it embodies THE PLEASURE OF DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
I continue to enjoy the home more with each passing year. Its' waterfront location, quite neighborhood, and convenience to everything is what drew me to it. Whether sitting on waterfront deck or pier, soaking up the sun, enjoying the breezes, boaters or wildlife, the river offers a multitude of enjoyment opportunities. Whatever the weather or time of year I always have something to do or relax with.
We stayed at Branch Goodson's home in Washington, NC in October. It was really really nice and sooo clean and stocked with everything one could possibly need. It is a beautiful place right on the water! Mr. Goodson's hospitality was wonderful...very personal. We would definitely stay again!!!! Sharon and Dan
The owner, house, view, everything was a great pleasure. We will definitely return.
The River House was exactly as advertised. The river view was mesmerizing from the receding of the morning fog to the colorful display at sunset. The house was comfortable, clean and well stocked. The yard and deck were impeccably kept--not an easy feat so soon after a hurricane. But what really stood out was the hospitality of the host. He went out of his way to welcome us, answer our questions and make sure we got the most from our stay. I highly recommend this place.
My husband and I visited this vacation rental at the end of September. It was still very warm and beautiful. The view from the wall of windows was amazing! There is an incredible vista with changing colors from sunrise to sunset. You feel like you have the whole river to yourself. Aside from an occasional boat, skier or paddle board, the water is quiet with just the sounds of the waterfowl or fish jumping to delight you. The house opens to an inviting and warm kitchen with every modern convenience. The home has a wonderful floor plan with two bedrooms with adjoining baths on each side of the house. The center of the home has an open floor plan with a family room that opens into an office, dining room and lots of windows across the front. The windows are actually sliding glass doors that open onto a raised deck with steps leading through lovely landscaping to a 200 foot pier. We fished and crabbed from the pier and took in the sun's warmth and fresh air. The back of the home has an attached car port for two cars that worked wonderfully in protecting us from the occasional cloud burst. The owner, Branch, is a wonderful host and has thought of everything. He is easy to reach with any questions and helped steer us to the best restaurants and things to see in nearby Washington. It was such a comfortable and relaxing stay that we felt like we stayed with family. My husband and I hope to stay at Captain Jack's again very soon!
This felt so much like my own that it allowed us to totally relax and enjoy the home, the water front, and the sunsets. The home is sooo well furnished and Captain Jack was so helpful, it made our experience flawless. Our group was two couples, and the design of this home made life very comfortable. I recommend this area for the history, the Southern atmosphere, and the good food. I recommend this property because of the great owner and the attention to detail that is so obvious when you arrive. Enjoy!
Stayed there on business for PCS Phosphate. Quiet and peaceful. 2 bed/bath combination was convenient and a better deal than two hotel rooms. Local Washington restaurants were great.
