About Mark Clinton

Owned and operated by the Clinton Family, 3 generations of our family have lived and operated this seasonal vacation getaway. Originally from the greater Boston area, The Clintons first purchased this beachfront property in 1975. This parcel of land included 2 houses and 3 cottages, the Main House is the space we rent seasonally (in addition to several smaller cottages). We know have rebranded our business under the name: Salty Breeze Cottages. Why Salty Breeze? Originally this prime vacation spot was known as The Salty Breeze Inn during the 1930's through the 1070's by the previous owners. 40 years, 3 generations later, The Clinton Family continue to own, invest and operate this beautiful, Beachfront property with pride and attention to detail. You are part of our Family while you are here! We speak fluent English, Spanish, Portuguese and conversational French as a side note. You are in good hands at Salty Breeze Cottages and with your Hosts, The Clinton Family of Rye Beach, New Hampshire.

Mark Clinton purchased this house in 1975

Why Mark Clinton chose Seacoast

Location, Location, Location! We are located directly ON Foss Beach in Rye, NH. You are a 25 foot walk (8.3 meters) from the front door of this home to the Beach sand! We are also located to many other beaches in the surrounding area (Sawyer Beach, Wallis Sands, Pirates Cove, Jenness Beach, North Hampton State Beach, Rye Harbor, Hampton Beach, etc) Just park your car in our private garage and relax! That is what vacation is all about, isn't it?

What makes this house unique

As someone who now lives in the city, I cannot tell you how much I miss smelling the cool, refreshing, Salty Breeze and ocean air - and you will notice it the minute you arrive at our home in Rye Beach. Not only that, but the town of Rye is the most desirable and exclusive area in New Hampshire (if not all of New England) to raise a family and retire in. Yet, despite all that, you still feel you are getting away from it all, as they say, without sacrificing things to do and plenty of activities at hand. Whether it's sun bathing, making sand castles, surfing, fishing, kayaking, sight seeing - you name it! The fact that you are on a Holiday or vacation for the week will not be lost on you while you are here as our guest!

Lovely home!

  • 4 of 5

The location is perfect. Right across the street from a beautiful beach and very close to the restaurants and shops of Portsmouth. The upstairs has a wonderful view of the ocean and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was very relaxing.

We rented in late August, 3 adults and 3 kiddos. We LOVED this place so much. Loved hearing the ocean all day long and I realized how long it had been since seeing the sunrise over the ocean. We didn't go anywhere-we put the house beach chairs on the beach and the kids just ran back and forth from the house all day. The tides there are amazing and the waves get big as the tides coming in and we loved body surfing and boogie boarding late into the day. We all loved low tide as well, built giant sand castles and looked for sea creatures for hours. Kids learned to surf at Jenness-5 minutes away. We went for long walks on the rock barrier. We also went for long hikes on the trails at the state park and the kids loved the science center. I thought we would go to the water park and Rye airfield skate park but the ocean was so amazing we just couldn't leave.

SO much space in this house-we loved the outdoor shower and the hose at the front door was key. We were there for 3 days and it felt like a week. Owner was lovely and welcoming. The pictures don't do the house justice, it's really big and lovely, clean and well laid out to accomodate lots of folks. To be 50 feet from the beach was so relaxing for all of us- no packing up food or clothes, just total relaxation. Picking my dates for next year!

This was my first time to Rye and I can't believe what I've been missing. I loved it so much we snuck back the very next weekend for another lobster roll and surfing session. It's got a real old school feel. LOVED IT!

You cannot see the ocean or the beach from the main floor of this cottage. Why? Because after you cross the busy two lane road you get to climb an 8 foot high wall of dirt (5 miles long?) that was probably placed there because of the potential for storms. The wall of dirt lasts several miles so don't bother even trying to get a glimpse of the water. There is NO A/C so if you like the windows open and listening to heavy traffic, loud radios and beeping horns ALL night, you'll love this place. The fans blow hot air, which is not soothing. There are no washcloths to be found anywhere and there are limited towels so I guess you have to bring your own. The whole house groans when you take a shower upstairs or flush the toilet. It is in BAD need of updating...outdated appliances, sparse furniture in the house, etc.... One of the members of the family stopped by and asked how things were and when I mentioned I couldn't even see the ocean he said, "Hey, my family has owned this for 40 years!" as if I was insulting him. The TV is way to small in the living room and we could only find two lawn chairs to sit on...I hope you don't bring more than two people to the cottage! The one car garage MAY fit a small car, but not a larger travel vehicle such as a crossover or a minivan. The cottage is surrounded very closely by other cottages (25 feet away?) so there is little privacy. I guess what bugs us the most is how misleading this ad really is. Just be honest. Don't tell people that there is little traffic when you know that is not true. Do not tell people it is a 'beach cottage' when you can't even see the ocean/beach due to the 8 foot sea wall of dirt directly in front of the house! We had to get in our car and DRIVE to a public beach to go in the water. Oh and if you did bring a jet back and manage to get over the wall of dirt and cross the busy highway, the beach itself is rocky!! Yes, there is some sand there but it is not this sandy beach experience that you would be described to you by the owners. Its funny because there are several "this is a beach house" signs and wall hangings all over the cottage. Really? What beach? How to fix: 1. Re-write this ad and BE HONEST about what this place is and isn't. 2. Spend $5 and get some more towels and washcloths. 3. Fix all of the non working electrical outlets and plumbing issues. 4. Update the appliances and furniture (hello 80s!) and lower the price to reflect the REAL value of this place.

Owner's Response: I feel it necessary to address this guests’ experience. Based on previous reviews & feedback, your characterization of my home was not accurate & I proudly advertise my home with honesty at all times. Just to start with the point: “WARNING!! THIS IS NOT A BEACH COTTAGE”. True, this property is a 2200 sqft., 2 story Cape House w/attached garage. I am sorry for any misunderstanding in on beach views. There is indeed an ocean view, visible from all rooms upstairs. The rock wall perimeters the entire NH coast provides us our only protection from heavy storms & coastal flooding in the winter. There is a sandy beach without question during low tide (see photo gallery). I apologize for what you thought was very heavy traffic on Ocean Blvd. We DO NOT advertise A/C of any kind. If that was a necessity for you (which I respect & understand) my home was probably not the correct choice for you. I offered to provide washcloths as soon as you asked, you purchased your own - they were in the supply closet in the living room. “The whole house groans” when you shower/flush the toilet, this is the first I have heard this. Our trade is Plumbing & Heating. We have been in the business 35 yrs & members of the BBB. We would never rent our home to anyone if the drainage/venting was not up to the NH code. Re: the “My Family Has owned the property for 40 years” – it’s hard not take someone’s displeasure w/ your home personally. We have invested countless hours of upkeep & repair & take pride in our home. Electrical outlets: I offered to come over & remedy the situation, you declined as “everyone was napping”. It’s unfair to publish this as if we you weren’t offered a solution to the problem. No one else has complained re: plumbing/electrical. Furniture& TV’s: I’m sorry you feel the TV’s were too small. I am always open to suggestions from guests. The décor says “Beach House” etc. I apologize you feel this inaccurate. RE: the furniture, our home sleeps 6-8 people (2 twins, 1 queen, & full size bed), full DR for 6, a kitchen w/a small table & chairs, a front LR w/a full size couch & 3 chairs, another LR w/TV has a full size pull-out couch, ottoman, chair, desk & piano. I’m sorry that our house, as furnished did not fit the needs of your family of 4 & you didn’t find the accommodations to your liking & that your overall experience was an unsatisfactory one. I do not expect my home to be everyone’s “cup of tea” & I apologize we were not a fit for your family.
