A modest 3 bedroom brick home built with Papa in mind. The house is completely accessible, including wide doorways, no carpet and bathroom railings. One bedroom has a queen size bed and the second bedroom has a twin size bed. The third bedroom has been made in to a large laundry room but has a hotel style rollaway bed available for use.
The home has one full bathroom with an accessible shower. The kitchen has all major appliances including a dishwasher. There is a nice big yard but it is not fenced in.
We are 8 miles from downtown Fairhope and closer to lots of wonderful restaurants.
I love to volunteer at the hospital and meet new people. My interests also include gardening, cooking and feeding my friends. I have been happily married to George more years than I can count. We enjoy our rescue dogs and taking care of our home.
Mary Jean Havranek purchased this house in 2000
This property was built for Papa in 2000. It is adjacent to our property and perfectly laid out for Papa and now updated for you!
Home is completely accessible and close to downtown Fairhope.
Mary Jean and George are wonderful. The cottage is well appointed and quite comfortable. I was writing a book and it was quiet for working. I enjoyed a good two-mile walk every day and the weather was beautiful. It was an early spring. Flowers bloomed everywhere. We enjoyed driving to the bluff every evening to watch the sunset. Can't wait to go back!
I just want to say, leaving our new Alabama "family" after 5 weeks is difficult. Mary Jean and George are quite simply the most wonderful couple we have met in a long time. They went above and beyond what was expected. We even helped celebrate George's birthday by going to dinner with them and the rest of their family. Papa's Cottage has everything that one can imagine when staying in a rental property in the Fairhope/Gulf Shores area. Nestled in the tress on a peaceful country road, it is centrally located to everything. After traveling for 2 days, the last thing we wanted to do was go grocery shopping. Not to worry. Mary Jean had muffins and rolls, coffee and juice waiting for us for breakfast. We had our grandsons with us and she had even bought soda and special snacks for them. We have already booked Papa's Cottage for 2018. Mary Jean and George, thank you both for everything! And Scooter says thank you too! Give Maddie a kiss for us. Love, Len and Becky
We loved our stay here. The home was decorated for the Christmas holiday which made it seem even more like our home for the holidays. Even gifts for us! Everything was neat, clean, tidy. I just can't say enough good about it. The property owners are so kind. Quiet atmosphere away from hustle of the city. You can see the stars at night. The kids loved playing outside gathering pine cones and just being kids. We most definitely would stay here again.
My family of four came to spend Thanksgiving with my parents that live about 6 miles away. Papa's Cottage was perfect for our stay. Mary Jean welcomed us with big hugs. She had everything we needed for breakfast so we didn't have venture back out for breakfast supplies that night. Kitchen was well stocked for making our dishes to take for thanksgiving meal. House was clean. Beds were good. Even the rollaway was very comfy and fits in room with twin bed.
Wifi/internet was slow, but worked just fine.
Will be staying at Papa's Cottage whenever we come visit family in Fairhope if available.
Mary Jean is a true southern lady.
We enjoyed the hospitality and the many lovely details our hosts provided. There were special touches of Fall decor, blueberry muffins, etc for breakfast, and even toys for my toddler grandson! The house is spotlessly clean and comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Thank you for everything Mary Jean!
George and Mary Jean are the best hosts. They provide everything you would need for a great stay and much, much more. The cottage is perfect and well kept. It is also very clean. We had some friends join us for a few days and they loved it too!!! Fairhope is a very nice town and the cottage is close to the downtown area but sits in a quiet part of town. It is also within a 40 minute ride to the beach. We once again enjoyed visiting with George and Mary Jean as well. We would highly recommend this VRBO if you are looking to stay in the Farihope area.
