Magical

  • 5 of 5

You just have to experience it to understand it. Shelby and Karen did a great job of accommodating our family of 6. When we arrived Shelby gave us a tour, and took the time to show us some baby owls that the kids loved. It was raining almost all day, but the kids found time to play in the turrets, and they also enjoyed the man cave. I enjoyed escaping outside at night to listen to the rain fall from the tree leaves. We were only able to stay for one night, but when we left my son Dylan was ecstatic when he found out Shelby sent a piece of meteorite home with us. He's a huge rock collector and it made his week! Shelby and Karen:. You are such gracious hosts and we will definitely be back next year for longer!

Owner's Response: We are so happy you all enjoyed your stay! Your opening statement is perfect! It is almost impossible to put into words what it is like to stay at the castle. You just have to experience it. Even with the rain, we're so happy you took advantage and enjoyed the peace and tranquility the castle offers. It was a rare treat to see those baby owls! You never know what you might see when you stay with us! We hope you will come back again and stay longer! There is so much more to enjoy not only at the castle but in the surrounding Ozarks. Between shows and dining in Branson, there are multiple golf courses in the immediate area. Silver Dollar City is just a few minutes away or take in the breathtaking Buffalo National Park! Thank you for staying with us! We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Warmest regards, Shelby and Karen

Peaceful, relaxing retreat

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying here. It's peaceful and beautiful. The stonework is a work of art and I took endless pictures of it. lol Lovely neighbors/landlords :) Branson is a quick jaunt away, then you can come back to a secluded hideaway and stargaze away from city lights and noise. We saw several deer. My great lament was that my camera quit working. :)

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Great stay! Nice quiet get-away for my husband and I. Loved the activity stuff set up so we could do things (volleyball, badminton, pool table, darts, etc.) if we wanted to without having to go out searching. Had a wonderful and relaxing time! Owners were very responsive to my questions before our arrival - which I REALLY appreciated!

We will definitely be staying there again!

A hidden treasure you will miss if you don't slow down!

My first impression of the property was a little underwhelming, but after a short time there my wife and I experienced the magic of this place. Shelby and his wife are such sweet, caring people. We could have talked with Mr. Shelby for hours had time permitted us. They are truly what makes this place a must visit! The castle we stayed in was very clean and well taken care of. There were small amenities like an extra brand new toothe brush and razor. To my wife and I it's the little things that touch our heart and leave an impression. We slept like rocks during our visit! No pun intended. The castle really is that, a castle! Courtyard, guard towers, huge wooden doors and a cute little spot you can have a bite to eat outside. They have a huge garden full of a variety of different veggies. My wife and I got us a fresh eggplant for our supper. Seriously, if you come expecting a 5 star hotel then you are coming to the wrong place. Come expecting a warm get away cottage and you will not leave disappointed! The only con I experienced was the man cave. I wish it would have been cleaner. The carpet was kind of old, but could be easily taken up. Other than that we really had a great time. Thank you to Mr. Shelby and his wife for having us, and we look forward to our next visit!

Owner's Response: I will not forget your arrival any time soon! There was a raging storm and lightening dancing all around. While waiting to greet you, . decided to stand in the rain rather that hold my umbrella like a lightening rod! Then you had to dash back out almost as soon as you got here, to get to your event! What an evening that was! Shelby and I try to greet our guests together, however for later arrivals it is just me. He is the early bird and I am the night owl. This works well so we can be readily available should our guests need anything. The castle is a labor of love, and if you don't get an opportunity to meet or visit with Shelby, you are missing out! He is the heart and soul of this place! Of course, we try to have everything you might want or need in the cottage, to make your stay enjoyable. If there is something you find you need and it's not in the cottage - just let me know! We don't want you to leave feeling your stay could have been any better! The man cave is not as pristine as the cottage is. The man cave is for running in and out of with wet feet from the pool, or back and forth from throwing horse shoes or playing volleyball. The carpet will certainly be replaced in the future, actually the entire room is scheduled for a remodel and an upgrading of the half bathroom. With the limited budget of a non-profit organization such as us, improvements and upgrades are completes as finances allow. Our goal is for our guests to have a clean, comfortable and affordable place to stay so they will have more money in their pockets to enjoy all of the attractions and entertainment that is are close to us! There are so many shows, places to dine, golf courses, and shopping within 20 minutes of us, guests are hard pressed to do it all during their stay at the castle. We will be looking forward to seeing you again in the future and hope you will have more time to visit!

A Great Escape

Tucked away in the Ozarks, this castle cottage is compact, clean and beyond interesting. Just driving up the gravel road and driveway is an adventure. Bring your imagination and prepare to just....chill. It's quiet, it's interesting and the hosts are amazing.
