About Marsha Mills

I am a National Artist who has had the fun of doing work for the Smithsonian, Brooks and Dunn, AKC, National Cutting Horses and Clients throughout the world and winning national awards. My Media is Dry Brush Watercolor and I have been a College Professor and still teach private lessons. My son is my Apprentice who also is a Muralist and a Tattoo Artist. I now live in Beaufort on the water. You will find prints of my works throughout the house and murals by my son Ryan.

Marsha Mills purchased this house in 1995

Why Marsha Mills chose Emerald Isle

How could an Artist not fall in love with such a beautiful place. The beach changes every day and the Sunsets are amazing it is so inspiring and so calming. Not only the sunsets but the morning walks on the beach watching the sun come up over the water takes your breath away. Bogue Island which Emerald Isle is located on the west end, has beaches that face South so the sun rises from the Ocean and sets in the Ocean....WOW.... Enjoy it all day long but watch the sun burn.

My family loved living here and still loves coming back for a visit.

What makes this house unique

My home is unique. Only one room has a flat ceiling. So each room is a white canvas for art. In the next 5 years you will see more murals being added to the house to go with its name, 'Second Star to the Right '. Yes, that is Peter Pan but the paintings will be not just for kids but also adults. So not only will you have a wonderful beach experience but a unique living experience seeing how artists expel on their ideas. Come and watch the house morf into an experience itself.

Comfy home, close to the beach, central to great food and activities.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I can't say enough good things about our stay. The house was clean and is in great shape. It is spacious and though it was very big for just the three of us, it allowed us to put our toddler in one room and sleep soundly in another room. The back porch is wonderful. It has an outside shower to clean off from the beach and a swing for our toddler and is screened in......was nice to read and relax. The walk to the beach is very short and easy. The provided wagons were perfect to take everything we needed and worked easily on the sand. The beach entry is to a nice calm and relaxing area, no big crowds.

The home is what I would call central to the island. Within 20 minutes you have an aquarium, a grocery store, three miniature golf courses, and tons of great places to eat. The owner provided folders full of great suggestions and hot spots which was useful since this was our first trip to Emerald Isle. The owner was easy to work with and checked on us to ensure everything was perfect. The bonus was this home is pet friendly so every member of my family was able to enjoy the beach. We hope we can stay again in the future and next time bring our our parents and in-laws as well. All in all this was a great experience and I would certainly recommend to anyone interested in a relaxing beach vacation.

Spacious but not clean....

  • 1 of 5

My husband & I, along with our four children stayed here during the end of August. One of the most important things to us is cleanliness. The house was very unclean. We had roaches in rooms. Small and large ones. I took picturs for owner. I'm not sure if the owner knows about it but the housekeeper service is horrible. When you first enter the house there is a strong smell of electric air freshners attempting to mask the horrible smell of pets & old rug/carpet smell. (They look new ) but are not being cleaned very well. The place is pet friendly but it should cleaned/vacuumed and mopped after every stay. There was animal hair everywhere (some people might be okay with this) we were not. The towles in the linen closet were folded but damp with stains. This means somebody skipped the laundery. Upon arrival I had to wash some towels and wipe down surfaces before utalizing the place. The shower water comes out slowly, so if you like your hot showers this place isn't for you. The place

needs to be updated (bedrooms/bathroom etc) very old toilets with stains/stench. If the owner is reading this, please understand I had very high expectations as I paid well over what your home is worth. Again, I don't know if you are aware of the situation or not but I hope you fix it for the sake of future renters. Emerald Isle was beautiful, I will be returning, but not to this home unfortunately.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry this renter was so upset with my house. This is the first poor review that I have received out of 22 reviews giving me a 4.65 star rating. I wish they would have called me as I stated in my welcome letter that I am always available 24/7 with my personal cell number. This review came in 3 weeks after their departure telling me of the problems. If I had been informed with a phone call , my Housekeeper would have been right over to reclean the entire house and give a full new sets of sheets and towels. I am on a professional pest control contract . They come out every three months and had been there spraying on July 21, 2017 .The house has totally been renovated with new appliances and bathroom fixture in the past 2 years. The floors are hard wood and new berber carpet in the bedrooms which we have professionally cleaned twice a year, once in the spring and last on 10th of July for the second half of the summer season. The machine air defuser is a top of the line Ozone cleaner to keep down smells and allergens to help people breath comfortably. There is no cover up smell with those. I have bronchial asthma and require that in all my rentals. Having been with American Kennel Club as their artist I understand dog hair. We have commercial level vacuum cleaners that clean all the floors and furniture every week. Which again I must have for my own health. I am sorry this renter was so upset, but, that is in the past. I assure all my future renters a clean house and is updated every year. They will also have my personal cell number that they may call me 24/7 with any problems and I will respond. Thank you.

Good Stay for a small family!

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in this Artsie home. However, we were VERY surprised when we arrived to see two vehicles already there... We were not told prior to booking that there was a separate rental BELOW this VRBO and hence we were having to share parking space with an whole additional family.

Owner's Response: I am sorry you did not realize there was an apartment down stairs. It is written in my description for both upstairs and down. The great feature of this is we have a doorway that can be opened to allow the entire house to be rented for a group up to 18. This makes it one of the most affordable homes for a big group in Emerald Isle. Remember it is also dog friendly with 2 dog runs, that way people and dogs are both happy. The driveway has been renovated to whole 3 cars for upstairs and 2 cars for downstairs with an additional guest parking. I am sorry 6 parking places is not enough.

Great place for a family reunion

  • 4 of 5

We rented both the upper and lower units for a family reunion over the 4th of July. It worked great, with plenty of room for everyone. Just a short walk to the beach. Everything there that we needed. Used the grill every day. My brother loved the lower unit and is thinking about renting it again soon.

Perfect for our family!

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely place to spend a long memorial day weekend! Plenty of room for 6 adults (3 couples) and 2 young children. We loved the deck and the grill was fantastic. Lot's of seating for meals, both inside and on the porch. We enjoyed being in the trees with the nice amounts of shade. The ~10min walk to the beach was easy, especially with the provided wagon to carry our beach chairs and umbrellas. Location to the grocery store and other shops was very nice as we were able to take a quick bike ride for nearly everything we needed instead of driving. It was great to be able to securely store our bikes under the porch. Great house!
