About Donna Davis

Johnnie and Donna came from the deep South, so southern hospitality is a part of who they are. Like other young couples, they came to Alaska seeking an adventure, reared their family, and now enjoy their grandchildren.

Johnnie has worked in the Information Technology department of the local electric cooperative for over 36 years. Donna worked as an Administrative Director of the local community senior center, managed an adult day care program for the frail and elderly in a home-based business for 15 years, and recently retired.

Now they are ready for their next adventure, sharing their home and hosting families so others can enjoy their own Alaskan adventure.

Why Donna Davis chose Palmer

Palmer is a small community town, populated by colonists in the 1930s, with a lot of history that is still remembered and celebrated with Colony Day events in June and December. Combine the small community atmosphere with the breathtaking beauty of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley surrounded by mountains; add the long days of summer that produce the most extraordinary flowers and vegetables highly admired at the Alaska State Fair in late August; and top it off with all the fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, snow machining, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing in your front and back yard. We have been blessed to have found our small piece of the Last Frontier.

What makes this lodge unique

Location, location, location! Moose Comfortable Vacation Rentals is located on over 3 acres of Alaska wilderness, surrounded by spectacular panoramic views of the Chugach Mountain Range, Pioneer Peak, and the Knik Glacier. Canoe Lake (stocked with fish) is within walking distance and just a bit further is the Kepler-Bradley Lake State Recreation Reserve that includes miles of well-maintained and marked wilderness trails that weave among 13 lakes with stunning mountain views along the way. We border the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge which is rich with wildlife, moose, wolf, beaver, etc., salmon streams, nesting eagles along with other birds of prey, water fowl and migratory birds.

Yet, just a few miles away you will find great restaurants, fun shopping, emergency clinics, and a hospital. And the city of Anchorage, with all of its attractions, is only 35 miles away.

Beautiful, clean, & comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights here as a family of 5-6. It was a little crowded once everyone was settled in for the night, but we didn't mind (still more spacious than a hotel room!!!). During the day, everything tucked away nicely into the large closet. Beds were comfortable (we found an "egg crate" mattress topper to use on the hide-a-bed which was actually comfy), shower was great, all linens & towels are superb, furnishings are fabulous ... it really was a great place to stay.

We utilized the gas grill twice & the fire pit once. The view from the porch is beyond beautiful.

Very basic spices included, no condiments or saran wrap/tinfoil. Dishes were adequate, although I did purchase a couple aluminum foil pans for some meals in order to bake a quick meal. Appreciated having a griddle & a crock pot!

Many thanks to the Davis' for a perfect home base during our time in their beautiful state. God bless you both!

Another fabulous getaway

We love this place and the owners are so accommodating. It's one of those best kept secrets you don't want too many knowing about...out of pure selfishness of course. You won't be disappointed if you stay here.

My wife and I just spent a week here and it was great. When you walk in the door your going to say "wow", just like we did. Everything you need is there, and then some. Centrally located for terrific sight-seeing. Highly recommended!!

new, convenient, and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

I was working in the area. The owners are obviously conscientious, providing all the amenities one would expect and then a few more, such as fast wifi, W/D, gas grill, gas fireplace, and patio furniture. The king-sized bed was especially comfortable.

Very comfortable

Walked into a very nice place. Met every need. I had 160 Lbs of fish & left 4 coolers there hoping they can use them. Props to the interior decorator. Monte & Katie Yockey

Absolutely wonderful place to stay - Gorgeous and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This place is an absolutely wonderful! The owners, Johnnie and Donna, are welcoming and friendly, and have created a property that is comfortable and lovely. Everything is very clean and modern, and we were so pleased with everything. A lot of thought and consideration has gone into these suites, and it shows - everything from the decor to what is provided for use in the suite. I cooked all our meals in the suite and found everything I needed: pots and pans, storage containers, a good selection of kitchen utensils, and basic spices. I enjoyed perusing the books in the suite and sitting out on the porch, alternating between reading and just watching the mountains. It was so peaceful and restful!

They were were very welcoming to our family, even setting up a high chair and a pack n' play for our youngest. They also managed to figure out how to decorate and still keep the place child-friendly - generally I have to put a lot of decorations out of sight to keep them safe from little hands and put everything back at the end, but I didn't have to do that here. Instead my little ones could read the picture books thoughtfully tucked away on the lower shelves and enjoy the stuffed animals. The kids also really enjoyed the games in the suite, and it was a great opportunity to teach my kids how to place chess. The kids really enjoyed the swings, fort, slide and lawn. And even though this place is so child friendly, I would still love to come here as a romantic getaway - it is so suitable for either!

We had rented both the Salmon Run suite and the Cozy Bear Suite so that we'd have more room for our larger family, and that worked beautifully. I could see the adjoining suites working very well not only for a larger family, but also for an extended family or two families traveling together.

If you aren't familiar with the Palmer area, you'll find there's lots to do. We visited the Reindeer Farm, the Musk Ox Farm, Independence Mine, the Matanuska glacier, and local parks. The town of Palmer is very nice, and I would have liked to explore it a little more, but didn't get a chance. There are lovely little lakes within walking distance, and a place to rent canoes and fish less than a half mile down the road. The mountains all around are beautiful, and while you feel like you're way out in the gorgeous wilderness, grocery shopping is actually quite convenient.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay, and we highly recommend it!
