The apartment is clean, has all the ammenities you'll need, and you can't beat the view from the balcony. The town of Speightstown is great and there is plenty to do - relax on the beach, rent a car and tour the north/east coast, book a catamaran cruise, etc. As mentioned, Jude is a great host and can help make sure your stay a fun one
Hello! it was lovely to have you as guests and thank you for your review. Speightstown is such a special unspoiled location full of Caribbean colour and street vendors selling fresh fruit from papaya to turmeric. The beautiful quiet bay just 5 mins walk away is my favourite place to swim. I know you enjoyed the beach bars that provide sunbeds plus food and rum punch or great coffee. I’m missing the place right now .. come back soon!🌺
Our second stay at Coco de Mer and it was as lovely as ever.
The location is perfect for the beach, supermarket, restaurants and buses.
We spent many happy hours just relaxing and enjoying the fabulous views both from inside the apartment, but especially from the large balcony lounging area.
Sara kindly made sure we were straight into the apartment on arrival. Jude, the owner, replied promptly to any questions we had. All in all a perfect place to stay.
Verify Rates Before Confirming
We 4 booked Coco de Mer back in August for a Christmas holiday with an instant confirmation that our dates were available. We had also accepted the per night rate, service fee, extra person fee, and refundable damage deposit on VRBO’s site, and paid the requested deposit, when the balance was due prior to arrival paid that in full. En route I checked my e-mails to find we were being asked for another third of the total price above our contract pricing for a “forgotten” extra person fee. I waited to discuss with the owner in person.
The owner showed us the unit’s amenities and usage instructions, and when she handed us the keys we brought up the added fees. She claimed we were getting a deal because it was Christmas and the rates were much higher than we were paying, but the rates she quoted WERE exactly what we paid. We held firm that we had a contract, and we didn’t owe her anything additional. The next day she contacted us and asked if we’d pay a third of what she’d requested the day before as we HADN’T paid the “holiday rates” she’d quoted the night before. I said no, sending a breakdown of exactly what we’d paid. She claimed she couldn’t see what we paid, had received no money from VRBO yet, that there was a new system in place, etc. So we ended up paying exactly what our contract stipulated, but this was a very stressful and angering beginning to our Christmas holiday.
That being said, Coco de Mer is lovely, across the street from the beach. There are windows side/front for cross breeze. It listed 4 bathrooms, but there were only 3. There is a washer but no dryer, but plenty of hanging racks. The patio is great in the morning and for sunset, but hot mid afternoon.
The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and stovetop. There is no barbeque grill, the “grill” is basically the broiler unit of the oven. It’s well appointed with dishes and glassware. There are cooking pots, pans and utensils.
Plenty of beach/bath towels were on hand, grocery bags and a cooler bag. Speightstown is active, the property is 5 mins. walk north of the center and mostly quiet, but in a neighborhood with a kennel of dogs behind. We heard them during the night and early in the morning. Use earplugs and A/C at night in the bedrooms. No shoes are allowed upstairs on the main floor.
We had an enjoyable time in beautiful Barbados, but I suggest you confirm rates with this owner prior to booking to make sure there are no surprises.
A very nice condo with a great location!
We enjoyed our stay at this condo. The location was good and we were within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. There is a small beach right across the road from the condo but just a short walk north and you are graced with the beautiful Heywoods Beach. We also spent time at Mullins Beach because there are lounge chairs to rent. The only thing that I would suggest for this condo would be to invest in some better beach chairs and maybe stock the kitchen with some essentials (pepper, saran wrap, etc.) Some other condos that we have been to also will leave some non perishable things from previous users that didn't get used.
Thank you for staying at Coco de Mer.. I agree the beach is lovely and especially five minutes away where it has been recently improved to form a shallow lagoon! Plus a jetty where you can view all the colourful tropical fish from. We usually provide condiments tea etc but humidity in the tropics does cause items to deteriorate quickly. . Best wishes . J
Using this service was easy, the property was very nice, the veiw was stunning, sunsets beautiful!
Local food easily accessible!
We loved it!
Coco De Mer is located meters from the wonderful blue Sea with a beautiful deck where you can watch sunsets, stargaze sipping your champagne cocktail. This lovely 2 bed 3 bath corner property on West Coast BARBADOS is just North of historic Speightstown and the sound of the waves soothe your days and nights.
This is real Barbados with fruit and vegetables sold on the colorful streets. A small road runs between the white sand beach and the penthouse where you may see a turtle emerge from the ocean to lay her eggs. Port St Charles beach where priceless yachts are moored is 10 min away or relax on a sunbeds on our beach if you can bear to leave your own sundeck!. Sensational restaurants such as the cliff and Sandy Lane are located in a 5mile radius. The road to the east coast with breathtaking wild surf and natural beauty is easily accessible as is Mullins Beach. Supermarkets, Pharmacy, Banks and Restaurants are in walking distance as is the Orange Street Grocer a great place to dine!
Other Activities: Local hotel offers inexpensive day pass for water sports, golf, meals etc. Reefers and Wreckers Dive Shop is located a few minutes away!
Golf: Royal Westmoreland, Sandy Lane and Apes Hill are superb Golf Courses. Also the Barbados Golf Club further south.
I cannot emphasise enough the beauty of the East coast with its wild waves and salty winds blown in from miles away. A surfers paradise.. Not to be missed!
