About the property

Cozy, Efficient 2 Bedroom 1-1/2 Bath Home Right On A Perfect Alaskan Lake

This 1400 sq ft 2-level home was recently renovated with all modern conveniences (satellite TV, dvd/blueray, high speed WIFI, washer & dryer, hair dryer, iron & board, modern kitchen appliances including dishwasher) and is perched on one of the most beautiful lake sites around. Quiet and serene, off the beaten path but just 7 easy miles south of Soldotna, we are mid-way between the Kenai and Kasilof rivers - both world class river fisheries, and a short scenic drive from Homer, Anchor River and other cook inlet salt water fishing charter ports.

The main floor has a queen bed in the master bedroom, a full bathroom, an open combo kitchen/dining/living area and deck, all with awesome lake view. Downstairs you'll find a bedroom with queen bed (with lake view), a half bathroom, and a large bedroom/rec room, with table, chairs and twin beds. The upper deck has chairs, tables and a gas barbecue grill. A short walk down the hill is the grassy lake shore, where you can hang out by the fire pit or paddle the free canoe to fish and explore Hope Lake. Paddle through a short channel to a smaller un-named lake. Wildlife is abundant in and around the lakes, and we can help you plan your adventures farther afield, including river and marine fishing charters, hiking, wildlife viewing, glacier/wildlife cruises and much more. Got fish? There's a great fish processing service right up the street to help you get them smoked and/or quick-frozen for the trip home or shipped for you. Owners are long-time Alaskans with extensive knowledge of the Kenai and many other parts of Alaska, which they love to share!

About Bill and Suzy Larned

Suzy (Montessori teacher) and Bill (recently retired Wildlife Biologist/Pilot) moved here in 1984 with 5 kids, and "the intervening years have spun by gloriously, with no regrets leaving the east coast. We fell in love with the dramatic Alaskan Landscape, its incredible wildlife, and its warm, energetic and diverse population. We often look at each other and chuckle at how lucky we were to find our perfect niche here on Lake Hope."

I have now stayed at the Hope Lake Hideaway multiple times and will definitely go back for our next trip. The owners keep the home immaculately clean and cozy. The location just outside of town is the perfect balance of convenience and privacy/ solitude. In addition the property is centrally located between multiple destinations for excursions and day trips.

A great place to explore the Kenai Peninsula. The cabin on the lake was perfect for our group of four. Bill and Suzy are wonderful hosts. I would recommend their property.

Beautiful views with a great location

  • 4 of 5

The views in this home were amazing and I appreciated the convenience to the outdoor activities nearby. The owner was responsive to all our needs and even brought a gift of homemade raspberry jam that was delicious. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking good care of our facilities. We hope you got to see some of the waterbirds (ducks, swans, cranes, loons, grebes, and shorebirds) that were visible on the lake while you were enjoying the deck. Please come back and see us in the near future!

We loved this place!

Bill (the owner) was so pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The house itself was immaculate. The view is gorgeous. Use of the canoe and fire pit really added to the Alaska experience. It's a perfect place for a family. I will definitely come back for my next trip to Alaska. Thanks, Bill and Suzy!!

Beautiful cabin. Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The entire family enjoyed our time here. The canoeing and fire pit were amazing. It was a central point to many places on the kenai that we explored. The owner was very helpful and available if needed. It was hard to get out of bed in the morning as the bed was so comfortable. Loved it

A well presented and prepared rental property. Very clean and well equipped for our stay. Close to town with a rural setting and an awesome view. Our group liked this place best of all our stays in AK.
