I grew up coming to this area for vacations. My father and uncle bought the old Ingham Farm in 1953 which was about a mile from the Cottage. Every summer vacation and long weekends we traveled up from Connecticut to be here. My wife and I grew up in Plainville, CT. We married in September, l981. Having an appreciation for preserving old things we purchased a 1780 Cape in Plymouth, Ct that needed much restoration and tender loving care. The labor of love began and continued in Maine with the purchase of the Cottage. 'Work details' with friends and family were ongoing through holiday weekends and vacation time. Everyone contributed their talents combining outings and pleasure with everything we experienced. The camaraderie of our friends and family runs deep in the fabric of the Maine experience and what made the Cottage such a special place. We began renting the Cottage in 1994 during the months of July and August. Many families return each year making their own special memories. They thank us for sharing a piece of heaven and that they feel like they are coming home. Now that we are retired, we spend a great deal of time year round at our other home on Ingham Pond.
Roger & Elaine Karabin purchased this cottage in 1975
When I purchased the Cottage in 1975 it did not look anything like it looks today. After getting married in 1981 we started to fix it up. We had no power or running water and the only way to get to it was by boat. We hauled everything by boat. Food, water, propane for the gas lights and gas refrigerator, along with runs to the emergency room were all done by boat. Many times these trips were made at night in the fog and rain. Some of the best northern lights sightings we experienced were spotted on clear nights during these trips. Once our sons arrived we purchased the property behind us and decided to build a road and bring in power. That was in 1991. The following year the old camp was dismantled [except the front wall where the picture window is located]. We designed and built the present day cottage.
The fields that you travel through on the way to the Cottage were not there when we purchased the property. It was all woods. An ole timer told us that when he was a kid the entire side of the hill was pasture and that the view was fabulous. So in 1994 we clear cut the land and brought it back to fields. This was a massive undertaking but the finished product was well worth it. Through the years we acquired adjacent properties to increase our holdings and prevent any potential development.
In 2001 we purchased an old camp to the east of the Cottage. We dismantled the old camp and designed and built an Adirondack style home on the site. This is a year round home and home to our youngest son. We all greatly enjoy the peace and serenity of the Ingham Pond area.
One cannot fully explain all the benefits that the Cottage has to offer. You really have to experience being here. This is why we have many guests that have returned every year for the past 15-20 years!! 2015 was our first year advertizing with VRBO.
Really enjoyed our two nights! The house is spotless and had everything we could need. The lake is beautiful and peaceful. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, this is your spot!
This location was absolutely perfect. It was private, secluded and the views were breathtaking. The cottage was so homey and tastefully decorated. The attention to detail was everywhere throughout the property. When we first arrived, I was in awe of the depth of beauty and found myself frozen on the Adirondack chair at the edge of the dock unable to move. The water was calm, the colors were reflecting off the water, there was little to no sound allowing a true feeling of peace away from the hustle bustle of everyday life. The cottage had an amazing stove which was going when we arrived. We enjoyed the fire and kept it going throughout most of our stay. We saw otters, beavers, and blue herons. We fished a little and caught a few 3-4 LB Bass and one 5 LB Pike. Kids enjoyed the kayaks and we even went swimming in the rain. An amazing place to make memories as a family. Would highly recommend this rental. The property is amazing and the owners are such a nice couple. Super friendly, helpful and just sincerely kind. Ingham pond was so beautiful and we all had an amazing time. Paula & Mike Gibbs
This was our second vacation at the Cottage on Ingham pond, and we plan to come back year after year. Its quiet setting both in the woods and right on the water makes it the perfect retreat for my family. The owners are so nice and helpful and everything is there that you could want, including linens and a washer/dryer, wifi, and a well-decorated, comfortable setting with room for all. The kyaking is divine and the water pure zen for the soul. We were there with 4 teenagers and they all had a great time enjoying nature (so nice to get them away from their screens, and me too!). The loon family is sweet and we even saw a moose this year. Dreaming of next year already!
Had a very nice five day stay on Ingham Pond. The location is very pleasant with stunning views driving in. A bit out of the way but only a fifteen minute drive to nearby towns. Right on the rocky shore surrounded by white pines and hemlocks. Windows everywhere! Great views but the younger people had trouble sleeping past 5:00 AM sunrise due to lack of shades. Interior is very clean and comfortable. Three small bedrooms could sleep eight. No room to leave a suitcase open but this is a cottage and not a hotel room. One good sized bathroom. Wish we had another half bath or even an outdoor privy for our family. Roger was very helpful and considerate. He brought over another canoe when the aluminum canoe at the cottage leaked.
Lots of fishermen on the water coming right to the dock. We caught some small pike and a large black crappie.
Canoed the length of the streams around the pond up into Long Pond. Saw loons, herons, wood ducks, yellow warbler, red winged black birds, mallards, hummingbirds, swallows..... Heard a moose across the pond but no sighting. If you like the outdoors this is the place to be.
We could not have had a better time or a better experience. It's a bit remote so if you're looking to shop or to have easy access to commercial area, this is not for you. But if you want a spectacularly beautiful retreat on a practically undeveloped pond with views and wildlife, great swimming, and all the comforts of home, then you will be in heaven. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and comfortable. We had 6 people - 4 teens - and we had enough living space for everyone with sleeping space to spare. The dogs also had the vacation of a lifetime with swimming right off the dock. Roger and Elaine have thought of everything you'd need, just bring your food and get cozy. The water is clean, the sunsets are picture perfect, and the tranquility is divine. We plan to make this our annual vacation spot!
Excellent cottage in an excellent location. Roger was very helpful and responsive throughout whole process. Would certainly recommend anyone looking for a lake house in the area. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
Often referred to by our guests as 'one of the areas best kept secrets' because of it's tranquil private setting, western exposure for beautiful sunsets and feeling like you are in a wildlife sanctuary. The private gated road leading through our fields to the Cottage offers the one of the best views in the Belgrade Lakes area. With the Cottage being situated on several hundred acres, we offer miles of private gravel roads and trails for mountain biking, walking the dog or taking a peaceful stroll and clearing the mind. Ingham Pond offers some of the best Pike, Large and Small mouth Bass and Black Crappie fishing in the Belgrade Lakes area. The Maine state record for Black Crappie was caught here on Ingham Pond.
