Comfortable but not Beachy

  • 4 of 5

Well appointed condo on the beach. Kitchen was well equipped with plenty of utensils for cooking but the decor was African motif which would better served to be beachy. On sofa and the recliner need to be replaced but he tiger fabric chase was nice and comfy. We enjoyed eating meals on the patio and watching the dolphins pass by. We enjoyed our stay.

Great View and Great Location

  • 4 of 5

My Family and I stayed in Unit 308, and I can say that this unit was great. As stated in previous reviews, the view is outstanding! The unit itself was great! The only things we had issues with was the lack of cabinet space for food (Family of four with some food allergies), and some issues with the building itself. There were plenty of dishes and flatware to the point to there was little cabinet space for anything else. Granted the unit is listed to sleep 6, so I can see the need for additional dishes.

My wife and I spent many hours on the balcony in both the morning and at night and couldn't get enough of it. Our small children even loved the view. The beach was never over crowded and we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves.

As posted previously, there is a notice about keeping the AC Conservative. As directed, we lowered the temperature slowly over a day and it held the temperature just fine at 72. The Unit is actually located towards the center of the building, and is close to the elevators, which made unloading and loading easy. However, you can hear the balcony traffic as people come and go, but I think that depends on who else is staying on the floor.

As for the building itself, the pool had issues two days in a row and was unavailable with little to no explanation of what was going on. One of the elevators was down, so that left every one to use the one and only elevator. This was extremely inconvenient, as everyone would overload the single elevator. At times it was just quicker to use the stairs, which actually works out better if you are just bumming on the beach, however if you need to use the elevator, it can be a wait. There is a single beach shower, however there is a missing handle, and only a single 24" rubber hose. It works for washing off feet, but that's about it. There is a shower on the pool side, however we were told that was not to be used as a beach shower.

Overall, our visit was so, so but this was mainly because of the weather and issues with the building, and building management. The unit itself is priced well for the area and the amenities. It is close to the Fishing Pier which is a great walk for the family, and close to Destin Harbor (~10 Min Drive). Getting on and off Santa Rosa can be a pain from Hwy 98 due to high traffic.

Very clean unit. View could not have been better. Quiet area, everything you may need is close by.

  • 4 of 5

Sofa sleeper needs replaced in unit 308, way too uncomfortable, especially when unit is suppose to sleep 6 people. No one could sleep on it. Other than that it was great.Building was solid and quiet. Very well kept grounds. Beautiful beach. Wonderful view from our unit.Everything you need to cook with. Only thing you need that's not provided is shampoo. Don't forget lots of sunscreen, the sun is intense. While we were their several days the gulf was rough, waves were powerful. Also quite a bit of algae or seaweed. Not a problem with us. We saw dolphins daily from our balcony. Love that theirs a door code, so handy. One elevator was acting up 2 days so just used the other one.

The Okaloosa pier is well worth a trip . We walked their twice, it's a 1 hr walk on the beach. Or a 5 minute drive down from unit.

Anglers has good food and great service.. Love that everything is so close to Pelican Isle . It is very quiet area can't wait to come back. Would recommend to others. We stayed in unit 308.

Nice location with a great view... but needs a new management company

  • 3 of 5

So it's true that the unit isn't updated (as listed in other reviews) but it's a good unit with a great location and the price was reasonable. And let's be honest, that's why we go there, to enjoy the beach, not the sleeping space. The lack of communication from the management company and addressing concerns was my main issue. The a/c vents had black mold on them, the shower had peeling silicone and mildew around the door and trim, all of which could have been addressed had the management company called me or returned an email (as requested), since I emailed them pictures along with my entry inspection. The beach chair/umbrella boys charging my in-laws $30 to sit in a pair of chairs for 2 hours, when there were plenty of empty ones, was another issue. The listing says you can possibly get an early check in or a late check out if ask for it when reserving. That's FALSE. The management company flat out REFUSES to accommodate either request. The unit is also near the elevator and the loud noise of visitors in other units coming and going can be annoying when you are trying to sleep. There is a label inside the unit stating not to put the A/C below 75 degrees, to prevent condenser freeze up. I'm not sure about you guys, but I like my A/C set on 70 or below after sitting in the sun all day. Maybe they should upgrade the A/C system if it has issues.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We appreciate all of our guests and suggestions to make the vacation experience better for everyone. Be assured that this property is updated and there is no review stating otherwise. We apologize that there was condensation in the vent, but that is a very normal occurrence on the beach, where humidity is high. Thank you for bringing that to our attention, and we did schedule the maintenance, which must be done between guests. The vents and ducts have since been addressed. We cannot speak for the beach service "boys," however, those chairs are not free to use for any amount of time, even if they are empty. For that reason, we tell everyone that they will get "one set" of beach chairs to use during their stay. You will be charged extra for using more than one set. An early Check-in and/or late Check-out is possible, but not guaranteed. It all depends on the previous guest or the next guest. In this case, during Spring Break, there were back-to-back guests on both ends of this reservation, so it was not possible to schedule an early arrival or late departure. There are elevators at most resorts, which tend to may make a noise. Unfortunately, this is not within our control. The AC units in every condo struggle at times to keep up with the demand of low settings on hot days, especially when doors are opened frequently. They will freeze up at times, leaving guests without air for hours until thawed. We only ask that guests be conservative when making adjustments to the AC unit to avoid a freeze up for your own comfort. Again, thank you for your stay, and I hope that we addressed each concern mentioned in the review. Our website and policies are very detailed and address almost every concern listed here. Please feel free visit our website or to contact Sunset Resort Rentals if you have any questions prior to reserving. Your enjoyment is our ultimate goal.
