About Kim Kotnik
My parents are originally from Ohio and they raised their children in San Diego, CA where they worked in public education (math professor and high school administrator). They spent years looking for a lake-view Tahoe property where they could build a family vacation house to enjoy with their 4 kids. My Mom worked closely with the builder to design a functional, practical and memorable family space. The professionals told us that the kitchen was 'too big, but we knew that a vacation home where 10+ people can cook, eat and drink together in the kitchen with everyone doing their little (or big) job would be great. We love the outdoors. My Mom hiked the entire 156-mile Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) when she was 70 years old. The kids are now in their 40s with kids of their own. The house will be renting for the first time in 2015, hopefully to 'friends and family' including some new friends we make in the process of welcoming you to Lake Tahoe!
Kim Kotnik purchased this House in 1996
Why Kim Kotnik chose Crystal Bay
We chose this property because of the views, proximity to all the natural wonders of Lake Tahoe's North Shore, and the ability to design and build a spacious, family-friendly house.

Gorgeous views, perfect layout....Just needed more snow (not the owners fault !!)
We really liked this cabin; we were a few families with teens who are soon to go away for college and needed to make memories. ....and Mt. Rose was nice and close....and we went to the resort for 2 days, but hanging out at the cabin, cooking together, doing puzzles and playing games was just what we needed. Of course the view was stunning and that was the icing on the cake. We did the fire trail hike which was close to the cabin (walking distance) and Spooner Lake which was beautiful....The kitchen was incredibly well stocked (and the owner was lovely when I asked b4 we got there if there was a pot for Chili, she went out and bought one for us.)
Wow pictures do not do justice for how beautiful the view was. Nothing beats watching the sunrise over the lake right infront of our balcony! We really enjoy the spacious cabin and the full-stock kitchen. The garage also has lots of equipments for different types of activities on the lake such as inflatable boat, sled, sand toys, bikes, etc. Will definitely be back in the winter for the breathtaking views.
Comfortable, spacious house with lovely view and great location
We had a large family group and the house had plenty of space for all us. We loved the large dining table and that we could all sit together for meals, and with a great view of the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning and evening, just amazing view of the lake from there. The road noise from Hwy 28 was a slight distraction, but not enough to take away from the great views. Some more comfy chairs on the deck to lounge on would add to the enjoyment of the deck. Really enjoyed the hike from the house to the overlook. Spectacular views of the lake from up there and not a bad walk. Also enjoyed being close to Speedboat, Sands Harbor and Chimney Rock beaches. Having King's Beach and all its restaurants and shops close by was also great.
Great Family House
We loved our stay at this house. The views were spectacular! The house was clean and the owners were generous with the sheets, towels, and supplies. The kitchen was well stocked and huge! We were a group of 10 (3 families and generations) and we had plenty of space in the house. The area is generally quiet although the main road is below the house and there was some noise from traffic. We would definitely recommend this house! We hope to come back again next summer.
Thank you so much for making your family memories at our house! We are honored to have multi-generation family groups like yours and hope to welcome you back to the lake soon! Best wishes from our family to yours.
amazing house - views views views!
We had the best time at Kim's lovely house. It was a super last minute booking and Kim was the most responsive host ever. She made our stay super easy and was aways responding in the hour if we had any questions. The house itself is amazing: stunning panoramic views from the lake and the beautiful mountains in almost every room. The house is super clean, cosy and incredibly well equipped: I challenge anybody to find something they need and miss in this house, it is just impossible! On top of that the house and surroundings were super quiet.
Thank you so much Kim for letting us stay at your beautiful house. We will definitely be back.
Gem of a find
We have annually rented Tahoe view homes over Christmas to be with our children and grandchildren. This home has, by far, the best view throughout. It was very clean and well equipped with all amenities and the owner provides clear, concise and very helpful information for the stay.
One suggestion: The simple description of the view from this home does not do the beauty of the actual location justice.
This 5 bedroom 3.5 bath family home is perfectly situated to enjoy all of Lake Tahoe's natural beauty and outdoor activities in summer and winter! Beginner to intermediate skiing/snowboarding at Diamond Peak is excellent and inexpensive. Great kids program. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Mt. Rose are easily accessible for more avid skiers. 'Tahoe Meadows' is 10 minutes away and has fantastic cross country skiing, snow-shoeing trails and sledding, plus hiking in the summertime. Closest beach is Speedboat which has thick, grainy white sand, amazing clear water and numerous boulders for jumping, diving and resting (family friendly/chill location; not commercial). Excellent restaurants including Soule Domain, Lone Eagle Grill and Big Water Grill are close by. Steamers in Kings Beach is our favorite semi-gourmet pizza place. Just behind the house is a little known 'fire lookout trail' that takes you to a breathtaking view of Crystal Bay, Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe and the CA/NV state line. Nature loop trail runs around the top. Hike is suitable for adults wanting a bit of exercise and kids wanting to run around. Ideal morning coffee or afternoon cocktail location if you feel the need to venture out beyond the decks of the house. Tahoe has so much to offer -- owners happy to share info and recommendations for all local activities.
