Bishop's Ridge Retreat House

Bedrooms 5
Property type villa

About the property

Imagine a time away in a spruce-forested refuge nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains just minutes from the destination attractions of Santa Fe in the heart of the Land of Enchantment. Imagine a night sky aglow with stars and awash with the galactic swath of The Milky Way.

A refuge from the pressures of modern life that provides all the amenities of home and the rustic charm of an invigorating outdoor experience under legendary blue skies and the abundant sunshine that has drawn artists for centuries.

The two-hundred acre setting embraces a breadth of possibilities for accommodating smaller family gatherings to larger community-building corporate retreats. Bishop’s Ridge: the mountain setting caters to all sizes of marriage parties, family reunions, corporate retreats, and provides an affordable option for vacation rentals. This mountain refuge may be rented in part or in whole.

The Refuge

Come home to the expansive living-dining-cooking space of the Retreat House: ideal for family gatherings, couple getaways, small retreats or workshops. The five bedroom, three bathroom home sleeps from six to ten in designer comfort. An adventure-filled day begins in the breakfast nook, takes respite in the comfort of leather and a gas fireplace, and dines on a sumptuous meal prepared in the fully equipped kitchen and served at the expansive dining room.

The Lodge

The Grand Room of the Lodge gathers together the warming intimacy of a stone-crafted fireplace with the extended expanse a wood-beamed great room for dining or dancing and for presentations and receptions. The cozy leather sofas welcome the visitor to read, relax, rest or warm a few S’Mores. The Lodge opens eastward onto a discrete patio and a grand fireplace with views to the surrounding mountains, and to the west to playing field and abundant trails. Temporary walls can divide the gathering room in thirds to accommodate a variety of simultaneous offerings.

A few steps from the refuge of the Retreat House, three A-frame cabins array around a central bathhouse, and beyond the Lodge after a longer stroll, three more A-frame cabins share another bathhouse. The separate groupings provide the opportunity for gender separation with counselor areas in each cabin. Bunk beds in the best of the summer tradition sleep up to 92, and one cabin in each grouping provides wheel-chair accessibility.

And Camp has to have:

A Pool that can service up to 75 swimmingly.

An Archery Range with bows, arrows and targets.

A Challenge Course with low and high elements starting in the playing field and continuing in the ancient stone of the west side of the grounds.

Extensive Trails that course through the varied terrain.

Playing Field: Just right for soccer, volleyball, running games.

Retreat House: Six beds are available in retreat house: one King, three Queen, and two Twin Beds. A large master suite provides a bathtub/shower and king-sized bed, the smaller master suite has a shower and a queen-sized bed. The three hall bedrooms share one bathroom with a tub/shower. One room has two twin beds and each of the other two rooms have a queen. The max capacity for the house is 15, and it sleeps 6-10 in the beds. A long table for serving up to 8 people. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and Keurig coffee maker. A kitchen table seats four.

Cabins: Two groups of 3 cabins share a bathhouse (4 showers/4 toilets/5 sinks), 2 Cabins (one per section) also have a toilet and single shower, 2 Cabins (one per section) are wheelchair accessible with a toilet and single shower. Each cabin is split into a large front section with 5-7 bunk beds and a small bad section with two beds some twin and some full.

The max capacity for the pool is 75 people. *Lifeguards must be contracted separately*

*Archery course Instructors must be contracted separately.*

Pleasant and quiet area. A little off the beaten path but clean and well kept.

  • 4 of 5

The house has lots more room than expected. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to prepare meals. The caretaker met us upon arrival and explained where everything was located and gave us some tips on most recommended eating establishments and activities in the area. Would definitely stay there again. Good property for large families or 3-4 couples.

Great family accommodations!!

  • 5 of 5

The house had everything we needed located in the foothills. The house was very clean, well stocked, large gas grill, great kitchen, and lots of places to hike and explore. It was a short drive to Santa Fe that offers lots of activities. Bandelier national park and the Los Alamos museum were 1.5 hours away and a must see. We will definitely stay there again!!!

The Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased with every aspect of our stay at Bishop's Ridge Retreat House. Not only did Amy call me personally two weeks before our arrival to finalize details and answer any questions, she met us at the house for a walk through prior to our stay. She also took the time to open the gate to the lower property so that we could take the kids sledding along the road. All linens, dishes, pots and pans, etc., were clean and abundant. The space heaters provided individual climate control in the smaller bedrooms, and the thermostat in the master kept the rooms toasty warm. The Plaza was convenient enough for those who wanted to see the sights and visit museums. A quick meal at Harry's Roadhouse explained the popularity of the restaurant. Thanks again, Amy. We definitely plan to return!

Don't Do It - Spend Your Money Somewhere Better

  • 1 of 5

I gotta say, i was excited about this stay until day of arrival. The communication was good until we got in the car and made our 6 our journey to Sante Fe. All communication ended. The check in process was unclear, my sister wondered around the property for a few hours trying to figure out how to get in. Upon entry, the home looked like noone had stayed in it for months. Every bathroom, toilet, sink had started to grow mold. They clearly didnt clean the place prior to us arriving as there was still toothpaste "spit" in the master bathroom sink. There were insects all over which we kind of expected with a home in the hills but these insects were not new. They were dead spiders in webbs all over the house. I expected to get a better response from the owner prior to this post but the only thing i received from the assistant was i have sent this to my manager, please complete the survey. That is definitely not the response i was looking for. We rented this home to go to the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival and we will never make this mistake again. I think for future reservations, it is important to set the right expectation. I work in the Luxury Travel Industry and maybe my expectations were just to high for a VRBO proprety. My only feedback to future reservations is DO NOT DO IT

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback and are so very grateful that you accepted a full refund from us. Please know that due to a scheduling mix up and personnel change the preparation of the Retreat House unknowingly slipped through the cracks. As you noted in your last communication to us" it will only take a few tweaks to remedy the situation", and we are confident that these areas of needed improvement will be addressed. With much appreciation for your understanding. Bishop's Ridge Management Team

Charming, comfortable and accommodating... Only wish we had more time to explore and play!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (my mom, dad and their 5 kids + spouses and children) recently stayed at bishops ridge. When we signed the agreement, we were fully aware that it was a retreat center and expected to be greeted with a certain level of rustic charm (to put it nicely). When we walked into the home we were pleasantly surprised not only at how large the accommodations were; but how beautifully decorated and comfortable we instantly were! This became a sweet safe haven for the lot of us as we finished details and prepared for my little sister's wedding. The home had a few glitches while we were enjoying our stay, but Katie was always very prompt to address and fix the problems. Katie was accessible and accommodating. We are so grateful for our time in this home, and are already scheming ways to make a return possible! Thanks so much! We would defiantly recommend bishops ridge. Thanks again Katie. Keep up the good work :)

Wonderful Winter Retreat!

We loved the home and bunkhouse, this was perfect for a large group. We went for hikes, played snow football, and had a little slice of heaven in a winter wonderland.
