THE HEDGE HOUSE

  • 5 of 5

Loved being able to stay at a house that my son raved about in Madison! What a wonderful home to stay in during the festivities for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding.

This house offers everything you could ever need! It was wonderful!!

THANK YOU!

Wonderful! Great for large groups.

  • 5 of 5

Great house with a beautiful view! Plenty of ammenities, well stocked kitchen with high quality appliances. Great front porch and nice backyard patio. Cute town within walking or biking distance with several restaurants.

A little noisy upstairs when walking around because of old floor boards but that's also part of the charm. Bring shampoo and conditioner...everything else is provided.

Hope to come back next year!

Great for family time at the shore.

  • 4 of 5

Our multigenerational family group chose the shoreline for our vacation this summer so that our daughter, who works in New Haven, could join us, even if she was unable to take the whole week off. It worked out well for all of us.

The house itself is spacious and charming. It is comfortable and well equipped. We appreciated the central air conditioning, as it was a warm, humid week. Initially I was concerned that we were not directly on the beach, but the road in front of the house is generally quiet, with more runners and bicyclists than cars. It was not an issue. The beach is clean and sandy, with nice sandbars at low tide. The house is close to Madison Center with a good bookstore, great ice cream, and a welcoming library with toys and craft activities, that our 2 year old granddaughter enjoyed.

There is plenty to do in the area. We rented kayaks and a paddle board and explored the cove and estuary. It was easy to bike to Hammonassett State Park, but some of us took longer rides in the rural areas long the Connecticut River, and went rock climbing. I was interested in the birds, but everyone liked watching the osprey fishing in the sound. It was an easy drive to the Mystic Aquarium.

There were a few concerns. Noise does travel readily between the floors of the house. With a little planning and some white noise, it was not a big problem. The main kitchen refrigerator, an impressive looking Viking, was not working when we arrived. Jim was very engaged in trying to correct that, but despite his efforts, it was out of order for 4 days. Fortunately, there was a spare refrigerator in the garage, and we had some coolers that were able to use.

All in all, it was a very good week!

Owner's Response: I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your feedback. The Viking refrigerator has since been replaced with a brand new Sub-Zero refrigerator.

It was everything I dreamed and more . . .

  • 5 of 5

Growing up my summers with my five bothers and one sister were spent at our Grandparents house in Long Island on Peconic Bay. They were magical. Now we are all retired except for one, and never get the opportunity to all be together under one roof for a summer vacation. This year we made it happen. They came from five different states and we stayed at the perfect house!! It could not have been a better script. Each room was tastefully decorated, the kitchen had the latest appliances, the beds were comfortable with down comforters and everything we needed in place. There was space for all of us to spread out and there was a table big enough for all of us to gather at meal time. Thank you Jim for making it perfect in so many ways. We rode bikes, kayaked, played tennis, walked on the beach and the town streets and spent hours on the spectacular porch in the Adirondack chairs looking at the sound and sharing memories. We enjoyed the champaign and toasted to coming back again next year. Five stars is hardly enough!!!
