Hooray!  We now have an elevator! Book your "shlep-free' stay today!

Our funky warehouse & former tavern turned costume factory turned fabulous Lincoln Park home can be your home away from home in Chicago.

Don't risk your vacation plans to a property that might be shut down. We are a legally operating, fully licensed and inspected Chicago vacation rental, so you can book with confidence.

Located in Chicago's newest neighborhood - 'SONO', at the crossroads of Lincoln Park - Old Town & River North - we are just two blocks south of Chicago’s “little Michigan Avenue” and on the Halsted Street busline, the North Avenue & Division street buses as well as the North/Clybourn Red Line and the Sedgwick Brown Line. In short, there is nowhere you can't get to in pretty much a straight shot.

If you’re heading to Chicago and looking to be near downtown but want a more neighborhood experience with friendly, knowledgeable transcontinental hosts, our home on Halsted just might be the perfect fit for you.

This amazing, bright and sunny 1800 sq foot loft is on Halsted in the Lincoln Park neighborhood is just 2 blocks from the Red Line train, with easy access to three bus routes (one which stops right out front of the building), the Kennedy Expressway and Lake Shore Drive.

My husband and I are just now completing this renovation as we downsize from the amazing dream home we created in the early 1990s to run our translation business and raise our family. Your home base in Chicago is the first part of what will ultimately be 4 urban loft homes in a former tavern & dance hall (1890s) turned costume & magic card factory (1950s) turned our urban dream home (1990s).

After 12 years of managing our vacation rentals in Greece, and one year with our first Chicago rental, we’ve learned how to design and build the perfect vacation space for your guests. We love to be able to accommodate families and groups of couples or friends in spaces that sleep everyone in private bedrooms, leaving the common area open for group meals and just relaxing.

This 4 bedroom 3 bath sleeps 12 - 14 guests in real beds in the privacy of bedrooms, while offering plenty of hang around room for everyone in the open floor plan living room (easily seats 10 - 12 around the TV area – dining room table opens to seat up to 12 - 14 – chef’s kitchen area - seating for 5 at the kitchen island.

Our spacious, comfortably furnished bedrooms have brand new Sealy Posturpedic beds, high thread count bath linens, and plenty of fluffy towel sets for everyone.

One bedroom sleeps 5 (one has a Queen and 2 twin [single] beds plus a trundle), the second bedrooms sleeps  4 guests in a Queen and a twin [single] bed & a popup trundle, the third bedroom sleeps 3 in a Queen and a twin bed, and the fourth bedroom/den sleeps 3  in 3 twin beds (daybed with trundle plus a twin). Two of the 4 bedrooms are en suite, and the 3rd and 4th share a full bathroom. And though the living room sofa also converts to a single or double bed, the apartment comfortably sleeps up to 12 guests in the bedrooms, without anyone in the living room.

For groups concerned with offering everyone their own bed to sleep in, we can accommodate 12 in individual beds: 3 Queen beds, 9 twin/single beds – plus 2 in the living room on convertible daybed sofas. No air mattresses!.

Bedrooms accommodate up to 15 guests.

There are three full bathrooms, and fabulous chef's kitchen and plenty of seating and hang around room for everyone, free WiFi, a clothes washer and dryer and easy free parking if you need it.

The neighborhood is great: we've got the second largest Whole Foods market around the corner with it's fabulous food court (5 dining options) and tables along the riverfront, a great neighborhood pub & wine bar, as well as great casual places like SoNo Woodfired, Burger Bar, Uncle Julio's, Dinosaur BBQ, Nando's PeriPeri, Earl's, Yard House, Lyfe Kitchen and Goose Island Brewery if you'd like to sample a local Chicago beer. There's also a several great live theater venues up the street including Steppenwolf and the Royal George as well as comedy & improv stages at the I/O Theater. The Mag Mile, Millennium Park, Chicago's amazing lakefront and Navy Pier, as well as the city's finest museums are all just minutes away - but you're still in a funky friendly neighborhood with great little local shops & cafes as opposed to being in the high rise heartland.

Our proximity to everything and the great public transportation nearby means you don't need a car, but if you are bringing one there is plenty of safe, free parking on our street, and we have an an off street parking space you can add to your reservation (fee).

Please note the frontline rate on this site is for our minimum number of guests and do not include taxes or the housekeeping fee. Your final quote will include those totals.

We require a minimum a reservation deposit of 50% of your total to hold your dates with the balance due 60 days prior to arrival. We accept payment by most major credit cards, personal checks, Chase E-Pay, and PopMoney or Paypal Invoice.

About Carole Heiman Kezios

Wow, who would have thought when I told my husband I wanted to buy a little pied-a-terre in his hometown, Athens, Greece, that I'd end up with the greatest accidental career of my life? Born and raised in Chicago, my love for travel was evident early on. Perhaps it was my arrival in the world, early one December morning, way quicker than my siblings had, in fact so quick we were still enroute to the hospital, and I still hold the title of youngest patient ever admitted to that north suburban hospital! (And thus, as a Sagittarius, characteristically smitten with wunderlust). I traveled my home country extensively with my family as a child, and was fortunate to have parents who encouraged us to study a second language young.

Why Carole Heiman Kezios chose Goose Island

While my language of choice as a child was French, my culture of choice was Greek - My earliest jobs were always in Chicago's Greek diners, my university days filled with hours playing backgammon in the cafeteria with my Greek friends, and my Eurail passes always started and ended my European backpacking holidays in Greece. So no one was surprised when I met Basil, a romantic writer but practicing translator and linguist, born and bred in Athens, but transplanted to Chicago, fell in love, and married him. While our life in Chicago was full, rehabbing a warehouse we purchased to house ourselves, our son and our growing Greek translation agency, I longed to plant some roots for our family in Basil's hometown. A small studio overlooking Mount Lykavittos was to be our Athens crash pad, but thanks to what seemed then an unfortunate turn of events, our home in Athens ended up being the beautiful Athens First Luxury Duplex. Larger than we had planned, offering it as a short term furnished rental seemed the logical way to afford it. Little did we realize that it would become so popular we'd be sleeping on friend's couches rather than in our own Athens home! Tired of being homeless in Athens, we purchased a second penthouse directly adjacent to the Athens First. In 2006 we completed the renovations of three additional short term furnished rentals and so, when it was time to downsize the former factory building in Chicago which we bought in 1995 and had renovated into an amazing city home - it was only logicial that we'd grow our accidental vacation rental business a bit more -- this time in MY hometown of Chicago.

What makes this condo unique

Our spacious, sunny furnished rentals in Chicago are designed to provide the perfect home base for families, groups of friends, groups of couples traveling together. After 12 years in the VR business, we have come to know what travelers and guests need in a great rental and our Chicago lofts provide that.

We want everyone in our homes to sleep in real beds; comfortable beds (no air mattresses!) We want you to open the cabinets of our kitchens and find what you need to prepare a simple breakfast or a gourmet meal for a crowd. We want couples to have privacy and our living rooms to be communal spaces for everyone to hang, day or night - so everyone sleeps in bedrooms (or dens) and we don't ever want anyone waiting in line to use the bathroom, so our homes have multiple (an some en suite).

Of course the comfort of your rental is only part of what helps you choose where to stay. Location, location, location also plays a part, and ours is perfectly situated at the crossroads of everything Chicago: We're smack dab in between Old town, the Gold Coast, Wicker Park, Bucktown, the West Loop and Lincoln Park. There isn't anywhere you can get to quickly either on foot, on the L, on a bus or in an Uber or taxi. Our guests love that and so do we!

City loft in a great Chicago neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We do a city trip every year, and this year my girlfriend and I stayed here with our various kids and some of their friends. It was a comfortable and welcoming home base for our many adventures in the city.

Highlights: beds, beds, and more beds spread across the four bedrooms; three very nice bathrooms, each with a full shower; great appliances in the kitchen if you like to cook; hosts Carole and Basil were eager and ready to help with anything we needed. E.g., we couldn't find a remote for the Roku; after I texted Carole, she was at the door in sixty seconds with one. All in all, this is a great place for a larger group.

Things to know: If you're bringing a car, you'll probably need to figure out your own parking. This neighborhood has been recently redeveloped, and has lots of fun places to go shopping, eating, drinking. Ask the hosts, they can guide you around. The kitchen is well appointed, but you may need to pick up some items from the grocery store a block away; you won't find condiments and such, just some basic seasonings.

Enjoy the loft... it's really fun!

Great Place for Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

I was trying to find a place in Chicago to rent for 3 nights, right after Christmas, to accommodate my family coming from the north, east and west. Carole and Basil's place was ideal because there were enough single beds so grandchildren did not have to share a bed. Carole and Basil greeted us by solving parking problems and bringing up all the luggage.

The loft was very clean with nice linens and towels. The 3 bathrooms were spacious and lovely, and the kitchen had everything we needed to have a family dinner there. The location was close to downtown where we shopped and went to the theater. We did not take advantage of walking to the stores near the loft because it was bitterly cold. Carole and Basil were always there if we had a question. I highly recommend the Chicago Magic Factory Lofts.

Newly renovated, beautifully decorated loft

  • 5 of 5

The loft was everything we were hoping for and more. Newly renovated space, beautifully decorated, with original artwork and homey touches. The beds were comfy and the kitchen equipped with everything for a gourmet cook (including 6 burner stove). Pleasant surprises included a bottle of microbrew from Goose Island Brewery and a bowl of Tootsie Rolls, both Chicago institutions. Magazines, maps and tourist brochures were also provided. The owners, Carole and Basil, were more than accommodating and responsive to our needs. Parking is ample after 5pm but can be a challenge during working hours on weekdays. Basil had parked his truck in front of the loft in order to save a space for us when we arrived, so that we didn't have to hunt for a spot in the neighborhood. We were a group of 10 women and the space was large enough not to feel cramped and the sleeping arrangements very convenient. We all loved our stay!

Fabulous, clean, spacious & perfect location

  • 5 of 5

My parents and some of their friends were visiting from Israel.

They are great travelers but hate hotels.

I am currently opening my business in the New City area and I wanted them to be nearby so I could hop over to visit for lunch.

I searched and found this great apartment with stellar reviews on VRBO.

It is the Magic Factory Lofts. They stayed in this one for part of their trip and the 2West across the hall during part of their trip.

I contacted Carole and we hit if of immediately. She was responsive and answered all my questions.

The building has an elevator that was just installed and that was great for my parents.

All their friends were so impressed with the size of the apartment and the great kitchen.

Each bedroom had its own bathroom, and that gave everyone their privacy.

The 5 days that they spent in the apartment will stay in our memory forever, since I was able to bring their granddaughters, 6 and 9 who also stayed at the apartment.

It was great to put them to bed and enjoy each other.

Thank you Carole.
