A great long weekend

  • 5 of 5

Spent two nights on a fishing trip. When the weather didn't cooperate we were able to enjoy all the activities that the cottage provided. While certain parts of the cottage could use a little TLC it's a great place to stay. I hope to visit again some day soon

Lot of fun

  • 4 of 5

The main reason for 4 star is the rust smell in all the water taps. Rest all are good with lot of fun, water sport equipments and spacious for a large party

Amazing cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing cottage. Water was the only issue which was informed well in advance and we prepared for it. We had a great time here . Kids have a lot of stuff to play with. The mini bar setup inside the house was just out of the world. Would recommend to anyone

Multi family winter paradise!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this property during our 5th annual Family Day Ski weekend.

The drive to Sir Sam's ski hill, did not seem that long at all!

We had a large group, 3 generations, representing 4 households.

(ours, our 3 grown children, partners and assorted grandkids..lol)

It was perfect that each household could have a large comfy room and their own bathroom!!! No lines, means no whines...

The ping pong, air hockey and fuse ball would have been enjoyed even more if we had not had such perfect weather while there.

It was great that there were toys there for kids to play with, but parents be sure you know what your kids have brought with them, so they can be sure to find their belongings amongst what is there.

It was also a bonus that there was more than one fridge so that each household could store what they brought accordingly but even so, we found it helpful to put a cooler out on the deck, adjacent to the kitchen, for extras...the advantage of a winter stay perhaps.

This is an extremely family friendly property. There are two reasons that I cannot give it a 5 star rating.

1) it would be helpful if it had a washing machine as well as a dryer

(the website clearly states this but we still had one mom of young kids miss that convenience...although it could be because of the water there)..

2) the property has a beautiful view of the lake, but the historical decision to put the road right at water's edge, means you would have to cross the road to get to the waterfront. This would be a non issue for those with older kids, but is something that would have this grandmother a bit worried during a summer stay.

We do hope to return next winter though as the location just down from Dawson Road means that bring 3 generations in a way that acknowledges 2 more generations back (at least) that settled that area, makes it a perfect fit for our group!!!!!

Thumbs up is all our soon to be 6 year old grandson has to say about this fun place to stay!!!!

Nice place for many people

  • 4 of 5

We came to visit our grandmother in the area. We have stayed in many homes in the Haliburton area before and we thought this house needed a little updating. The house is extremely roomy, but was not as clean as we would have liked. We have small children who are crawling, so maybe that's why it was so apparent to us. The overall house is great for large parties and we truly enjoyed playing outside with the kids. There was plenty of parking to accommodate the many cars in a large party and Lindsay made sure we had the driveway plowed a few times during our stay. Lindsay was a fantastic communicator and I would stay with her again for this very reason.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments, we always appreciate feedback. We apologize that the cleanliness was not up to your standards. We do have a fantastic cleaner that comes in before every guest, however over the holiday period we had to use a different agency. Good to know for the future. We hope to see you again, Lindsay

Place is big and cozy...lots of room and lots to do!

  • 4 of 5

The place itself needs some repairs in certain areas but no complaints. Not a big deal. Great location and exactly what a snowmobile family was looking for even though the weather was mild. Owner very communicative, makes for a smooth vacation. We will definitely come back in the future! :)

There is SO much to see and do in the Haliburton Highlands. Enjoy a stroll along Main street and pop into the charming boutiques that downtown Haliburton is famous for. Or for the more adventurous go for a "Walk in the Clouds" or visit the Wolf Centre located at Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve. In the winter go for a snowmobile ride on their groomed and man-made snow replenished trails. (www.haliburtonforest.com)

Minden is also locatated only 20 minutes from the cottage. Like Haliburton, Minden is a quaint charming town, located along the Gull River, with plenty of boutiques and shops to explore. Be sure to check out the Artisan Market opened every Saturday in the summer. Minden is also host to the white water Canoe/Kayak Slalom event during the TORONTO PAN AM Games Summer 2015. (http://mindenhills.ca/panam/)

Another adorable town to visit during your stay is Dorset. Home to Robinson's General Store, voted Canada's Best Country Store. It is about a 30 minute drive to Dorset. You MUST stop in and get a frozen yogurt treat across the street at Northern D'Lites as well! Check out the Dorset lookout tower which is 142 m (465 ft) above Lake of Bays. If you make to the top the view is breathtaking!

For the fisherman out there, Maple Lake is known to be one of the best fishing lakes in Haliburton Highlands!

Winter in Haliburton is just as exciting. Sir Sams Ski and Mountain Bike Resort is only 20 minutes away offering family fun for all. (http://sirsams.com/) The cottage is directly on the Haliburton County Snowmobile Trails. (http://www.hcsa.ca)

There is so much to do and see in the area, or if you're like me you can just head down to the dock with a good book and a glass of wine and enjoy the peaceful views of Maple Lake!
