This cabin is one of few remaining original structures from the once popular cottage community called "Log Haven". Located a very short walk from the shores of Great Pond, "Cabin 8" is your home away from home. Sitting in the living-room or on the screened front porch one can see reflections off the lake. The log cabin is sunny, inviting, spacious, and homey. The three bedroom, one bath "camp" is the perfect place to spend your days reading and relaxing. Or you can hang out on your personal lakeside dock for swimming, boating, or counting the loons. Because of our location on Great Pond's prime eastern shore, most evenings are spent dockside watching the golden sunset; henceforth, the nickname for Great Pond as being “Golden Pond.”
The log cabin was originally built in the 1950’s. Walls came tumbling down when we renovated Cabin 8 in 2011. Now a large great room combines the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. A new wood stove has been placed within the old stone fireplace. The camp is cozy and elegant, tastefully decorated without being stuffy. There is a screened porch that has a sitting area as well as a dining table. One can sit on the porch to read, have a meal, or listen to the birds. An additional outdoor deck gives space to sip morning coffee in the sunshine.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed. There are two additional bedrooms each outfitted with a set of twin beds. All three bedrooms open to lovely views of the Maine woods. The bathroom has a full shower.
Great Pond is known for the quality of its water. The lake is pristine. The topography of the shoreline at our camp allows children to easily swim along the rocky shallows of the lake. There is a gradual slope to the lake bottom so the water is shallow enough for children to easily swim, yet at the end of the dock the water is deep enough to allow for easy access for a power boat to get in and out from the dock. Kayaks, canoes, row boats, sailboats, power boats and pontoon boats are all welcome. Many a smallmouth bass has been caught right from the dock or from a boat trolling the lake. Fishing is fun on Great Pond.
We are located 15 minutes from Waterville or 20 minutes from Augusta. One can find fine restaurants, shopping, and other amenities in both locations. Local airports are Augusta (20 minutes away) or Portland (one hour fifteen minutes away).

Property was clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and everything we needed for a great week away with our family. Owner was responsive and accommodating. Private dock with a shallow area for kids to swim. Thanks for a great stay, Cricket! We hope to return next summer.

Chauncie,
It was a pleasure meeting your family. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. I look forward to hosting you next year. All the best…
Wonderful weather for September so, the lake was refreshing. The short walk from the cabin to the dock was a bit longer than we expected, but not overly long. The cabin was clean and spacious. There was a grill but we didn't use it. All in all a good stay for the price.
We had a wonderful time at this cottage. It is so sweet and charming. The dock is nice and sunny all afternoon and the water is beautiful. Just a few things— grill at cabin 8 is gas - not charcoal. The coffee maker is a drip coffee maker. Also, there are fans in every room.

An Absolutley Perfect Haven!
We had such a special family vacation at Cricket’s cabin on Great Pond! I can’t remember the last time my family and I made so many warm and fuzzy memories on a 4-day visit in Maine, where my father’s family has lived for the past 200+ years! The cabin is so beautiful and cozy inside. The furnishings And finishings are the perfect style of rustic meets modern meets a luxe Bed and Breakfast all combined. Cricket made sure the cabin was sparkling clean on our arrival! We cooked a bunch of big meals in the kitchen, which is stocked with all of the cooking supplies and appliances we have in our own apartment in NYC. The cabin truly felt like home, as we sat together in the cozy living room, telling family stories and sipping hot chocolate (no joke!) Every morning we walked out to the private dock right across from the cabin to admire the Lake! It’s an especially beautiful spot! It wasn’t warm enough outside yet for us to swim, but we rented a canoe and kayak and had an awesome time out on the lake itself! I really can’t stress enough how responsive and kind Cricket was to us, if we had any
Questions during our stay and also beforehand in helping us figure out logistics like renting kayaks. We’re all talking about renting the cabin again next summer, but for a longer family
Vacation! Thank you so much, Cricket! Warmly, Mara and Adam Cates-Bragar

Wonderful, quiet vacation
We had such a nice experience staying at the cabin. Cricket was warm and welcoming, and the cabin was immaculate upon arrival. We appreciated all the amenities included in the kitchen-we were able to make a number of wonderful meals. The water was a hop, skip an jump down a short path, and we rented canoes and went on daily short trips and saw loons on the pond. Thanks again!

Awesome relaxing family vacation house
We had the most peaceful relaxing vacation. The cottage was incredible and exactly like the pictures. The owner was so sweet and helpful. We are planning to book for next year. Perfect location because it was close to Waterville and Augusta. But you really do not need to leave the cottage because the lake is relaxing and beautiful. We would highly recommend this place.

Maine Lake Idyll!
We recently stayed here during our daughter's Colby graduation and had an absolutely wonderful time. The picture of the outside of the cabin does not convey what a charming place this is -- every dish, rug, quilt, curtain, and piece of artwork is just adorable. The cabin is very comfortably and has everything you need--including a large screened in porch--so relaxing! The lake is beautiful and you have your own dock to sit on and take it all in. Cricket is the most welcoming of hosts. Thank you-- we really enjoyed our stay.
