Why Dan Brady chose Traverse City

I've had my eye on this Slice-O-Heaven for as long as I can remember. I water ski on Silver Lake every chance I get. We ski right past this spot and I've always thought it was a perfect place for a great getaway. When I heard it was going to be available I approached the longtime owners. They were glad to have a ready buyer and we quickly reached an agreement.

I look forward to continually improving this property as a vacation rental. Right out of the gate it's a beautiful location. If you want a spot to relax this is it!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is the best of both worlds for vacation rentals. It is situated on a gorgeous lake surrounded by woods and gardens offering you the privacy you want when you head north to get away from it all and decompress. Yet it's close enough to Traverse City and the coastal small towns of Grand Traverse, Benzie and Leelanau counties that you're just minutes away from great sightseeing, wine tasting, shopping or great dining. An evening out could include the Film Festival at Traverse City's historic State Theater or at nearby Interlochen Center for the Performing arts which boast such notable alumni as Josh Groban, Norah Jones and Dave Brubeck's sons Chris and Daniel and Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys.

When you arrive, from the moment you turn on to Van Petten Drive you know you're about to enter a special world. As you wind through the wooded drive and make the last turn on to the Slice-O-Life peninsula you'll be immersed in the natural beauty of the area.

As you crest the rise to the cottage you get a feel for the lake and the property's ideal vantage point. There's a view everywhere whether on the deck, the patio or out the kitchen window.

This spot has an Up North vibe across the entire peninsula. With water on three sides it's hard to do anything but revel in the fact that you're on vacation!!!

Perfect stay for 10 yr anniversary

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a perfect long weekend in this amazing cottage! I should write a bad review so that this cottage is not booked for when we decide to return...but I can't be selfish.

There is so many great things about it that I don't know where to begin...best location, amazing views, many places to relax and enjoy nature, nicely decorated, clean, equipped with everything you need (even iPhone chargers and Keurig coffee) ...the list goes on! Thank you Dan for a great stay and great service.

The Perfect Summer Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Slice of Heaven was the perfect summer getaway (and the views are amazing!) Incredibly peaceful and equipped with all you'd need to partake in Northern Michigan activities (paddle boards, kayaks, etc) We enjoyed staying in and cooking most nights, as the kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need.

We also frequented Traverse City Whiskey Co., which I highly recommend. Amazing drinks and the most welcoming staff. And they have live music every Thursday night.

Dan was so welcoming, and made himself available to us throughout the duration of our stay. I highly recommend staying at The Slice. I will definitely be coming back next summer!

The Name Says It All!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing, incredible, PERFECT, three days at SOH. The property is immaculate and set up so you can enjoy the many beautiful views from multiple angles. We pulled into the driveway and immediately decided that we weren't leaving for our entire stay. The minor touches are what did it for us. SOH has TWO fire pits for use (with the wood and cardboard all available), beautiful lighting at night for the deck and stairs leading down to the water, multiple coffee mugs, cups with lids that keep your drinks cold for a long time, paddle boards, a kayak, a canoe, seating everywhere, really anything you could possibly want or need. The bed was comfortable and every night we fell asleep with the windows open, listening to nature. As for the owner, he is super easy going and went out of his way to make our vacation perfect. We absolutely plan on making the long drive to stay here again!

Slice of Heaven - Our favorite vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

Slice of Heaven is our favorite vacation rental. We've stayed at other rentals; however, we came back to Slice of Heaven for a second time in August 2017 and have already booked for August 2018. The owner has this property in pristine condition and the location is perfect - close to Traverse City and all there is to do there and a serene setting once you come back to SOH. Everything you need is supplied by owner except food! There are water toys, comfortable furniture and a long beach to wander on. The beds are comfortable and everything is sparkling clean upon arrival. We would recommend to everyone!

Perfect combination of comfy and welcoming while still being of great quality . The cottage is located above Silverlake with beautiful lake views from most rooms. The high-quality gas grill and the lighting in the evening was so enjoyable to our family and friends. Very private location as well. We'll be back

Perfect place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

Slice of Heaven is aptly titled! The commanding view of the lake from multiple locations on the private peninsula is incredible. The toughest decision of the day is generally should we use the fire ring by the Airstream or out on the point. The paddleboards, kayaks, and rowboats are great. We will be back! Thanks!

Traverse City is where Northern Michigan truly begins. This beautiful and historic city was named by Coastal Living as one of Michigan's three best beach towns - and the others are only a short drive away. Just recently it was listed as one of America's "must see" cities by Horizon Travel Magazine. Huffington Post listed Traverse City as one of six small towns to visit for a summer vacation. Traverse City has something for every traveler -- scenery, beaches, boating, outdoor sports, great entertainment and spectacular food. As a "foodie haven" Traverse City has gotten raves from Bon Appetit and Livibility. Long known as a wine region, new brewers and distilleries are making the town a great place for beer lovers and those who enjoy fine spirits as well. Plus - it's only a short drive from Traverse City to Sleeping Bear Dunes which Good Morning America Viewers chose as the "Most Beautiful Place in America."

With all that Traverse City has to offer it's the perfect destination for a romantic getaway. Shed the stresses of city life and rekindle those sparks when you head to beautiful Traverse City!

Wine, Spirits & Beer - The Trifecta

Two stunning wine trails, nearly 40 wineries, and over a dozen microbreweries and distilleries make Traverse City the perfect destination for all libation lovers. Known for its white wines, the region has scored numerous gold, double gold and best of show ribbons in national and international wine competitions. Riesling, chardonnay, pinot gris and sparkling wines are a special focus. Several red varieties, notably pinot noir and cabernet franc, are gaining widespread enthusiasm from wine professionals.

More than 10 local craft breweries are located within minutes of this convenient vacation rental. Several local distilleries, including one of the largest in the state, offer tastings and retail sales.

Spectacular Dining

An emerging culinary gem, Traverse City is home to skilled chefs whose cuisine is as inventive as it is delicious. Local restaurants range from creative food trucks to great bar food and quaint diners to top-drawer fine dining. All are within a 15-minute drive of this Silver Lake getaway. Looking for a perfect place to celebrate your engagement or anniversary? There's a restaurant in Traverse City that is perfect for the two of you!

A few minutes further takes you into the neighboring Leelanau Peninsula, the summer home of tv celebrity Iron Chef Mario Batali. An idyllic blend of unspoiled natural beauty, scenic orchards, vineyards and cozy villages makes a lazy day's tour an unforgettable peak experience.

The Most Beautiful Place in America

One of the nation's most gorgeous spots as well as one of its most popular tourist destinations, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a natural phenomenon that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. The dunes are only 30 miles away from this vacation rental cottage. It's a day trip that will create family memories that will last forever.

Miles of pristine beaches along the azure shores of Lake Michigan border the mountainous sand dunes that sparkle in white splendor. Hiking trials lead to breathtaking overlooks with views of the Manitou and Fox Islands before the Big Lake disappears into the horizon. It's a great spot for walking, climbing, viewing, relaxing and picnicking.

Shopping

Whether strolling the charming tree-lined downtown or the historic grounds of the Grand Traverse Commons, you'll find an electric mix of boutiques and specialty shops in Traverse City. It's all just minutes away from this conveniently located cottage.

Cherries

The Traverse City area is the nation's largest producer of red cherries. In literally every direction around the area orchards define the landscape with rows and rows of cherry trees that, in springtime bloom of billions of white flowers, resemble huge drifts of snow over distant hillsides. The National Cherry Festival happens here every July, showcasing everything cherry from pies, sodas and wines to tee shirts, mugs and other memorabilia. Events include tastings, concerts, parades, air shows by the US Navy Blue Angels, races, a fashion show and . . . a unique annual tradition . . . the cherry pit spitting contest. The 2015 festival opens July 4th and includes an incredible fireworks display over Grand Traverse Bay.

And the list goes on . . . Point your compass NORTH to the TRU NORTH, Traverse City!!!
