About Shane Quimby & Jess Nelson
Hi! We are Shane, Jess, little Owen and pup Samara. Together we own, enjoy and run ‘The Quimby Cabin.’ Shane has been busy remodeling, restoring and hosting guests in this cabin for the last 4 years, Owen has been giving directions (and taking naps) for the last 2 years and this is Jess’ inaugural season with the rental. We are all so excited to welcome you in! Shane is from a small farm town in Illinois, however Montana was always on his mind. After life and work took him from Illinois, to a home within Yellowstone National Park and then to Minnesota, he made his way out to Gardiner to reside full time in 2012. In addition to the rental, Shane runs a woodworking business, Badger Creek Rustic Furniture, which has created not only most of the furniture in this home, but in homes and businesses around town. Owen is Shane’s main man who will be celebrating his second birthday this summer. When he’s home, he helps out by providing smiles and giggles and has a real passion for driving his dump trucks around the yard. Jess hails from the great state of Minnesota and while she has been out to spend time with Shane during the 7 years they’ve known each other, it wasn’t until this summer that it made sense to move out. She loves solo traveling, arts and crafts, baking, photography and most certainly, cats. Since quitting her desk job 5 years ago, she lived in New Zealand, photographed dairy cows in Portugal, cooked for a family in France and served pizza and beer at a top restaurants in Minneapolis. Sitting still is not her forte, so she’s funneling that crazy energy into projects at home and around Gardiner, including family photography sessions through her business Chocolate Moose Images. Together we hope our active, passionate and hospitable natures come through during your stay with us. We are available should you want to chat about life and the area or else we make ourselves scarce should you want to focus on the peace and solitude of the view.

Why Shane Quimby & Jess Nelson chose Gardiner
Gardiner and the surrounding ecosystem is magical. It was through a lot of hard work and a little bit of serendipity that the property came to be in my hands, however I put everything I have into it to yield a magical retreat for others to enjoy.
What makes this Cabin unique
We think the view from our property is the best in Gardiner. The cabin sits above the Yellowstone River and looks directly into Yellowstone National Park with views of the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone, Rattlesnake Butte, and Mount Everts all from the kitchen window. We’ve been known to have elk, bison, bighorn sheep, mule deer, marmots and other critters walking around the property and even bedding down in the back yard. Other animals spotted in the surrounding hillsides includes black bear, wolves, coyotes, foxes, waterfowl, and various song birds. We feel this property is within comfortable walking distance of everything in town; restaurants, adventure companies, the North Entrance of Yellowstone and even to the super market (.5 mile away).

Amazing, comfortable cabin!
Quimby Cabin was wonderful. So comfortable and cool inside while it was hot outside. Well furnished and lots of room. We had a great time there!
Great in every way
I have nothing but great things to say about our stay. The cabin is nicely decorated and well-maintained. The location is perfect since it is right on the river and so close to the park entrance. What really made the stay special was the hospitality. Shane was there to welcome us and offered lots of helpful tips. It was so fantastic and we wish we stayed longer!
The Quimby Cabin is everything it says it is. Shane and Jess are incredible hosts! Thanks for an amazing trip!!!
Fantastic cabin in Gardiner with amazing views of Yellowstone River
The Quimby Cabin deserves MORE than 5 stars! I have stayed many places around Yellowstone and this is the best hands down. The cabin has been wonderfully decorated with custom furniture made by the owner. The best part of the house is the huge deck overlooking the Yellowstone River - I can't imagine a better view anywhere! Shane, the owner, was great to work with. He met us at the house to make sure we had everything we needed. The house has been well stocked with anything you might need to be comfortable and to enjoy the park and surrounding area. The house is walking distance to several great restaurants and right around the corner from the grocery store. There's even a rafting company right next door. We also stayed in some of the Yellowstone Park hotels during our recent trip - I wished we had stayed here the whole time. Gardiner is much less crowded and we were centrally situated to get anywhere in the park quickly. If you are coming to Yellowstone or the Paradise Valley area, I whole heartedly recommend you give this cabin a look - you won't be sorry. We are already planning our next trip to Yellowstone and the Quimby Cabin.
The Quimby Cabin was perfect!
My family loved the Quimby Cabin! Shane and Jess were wonderful hosts. The cabin was beyond what I hoped for. Peaceful , charming, comfortable - I wish it was mine! Everything our family needed- restaurants, groceries, gas, park info, wine- was within walking distance. We sat on the deck and watched rafters coming down the Yellowstone River, elk grazing on the hills-
Just beautiful ! I hope we can go back someday! I STONGLY recommend this home for your vacation.
The Quimby Cabin was the perfect base for our family to explore Yellowstone National Park!
My family has nothing but great things to say about our stay in the Quimby Cabin. Shane & Jess have thought through every detail to make your stay perfect—from the fresh cut wildflowers that welcomed us to the cabin to the reusable grocery totes (not to mention the well-stocked kitchen, laundry detergent & the Epsom salts for sore muscles!). Shane even very generously loaned us a pair of binoculars to use (after we realized that we had left ours at home!) The cabin is just as lovely as it appears in the photographs and the view from the kitchen sink is incredible! My family enjoyed several lovely meals on the back porch overlooking the Yellowstone River. We hope to return to Yellowstone sometime soon and will definitely plan to stay at the Quimby Cabin again.
