Stunning house and location
What a beautiful home! My family had a lovely few days here and will definitely come again!
Cream of the Crop!
Gorgeous home, on a perfect piece of property overlooking the Hudson! Our group had a great time, and were very happy to have found The Fels.
The owner was responsive during our stay w/any questions. He's (rightly) protective of the property ... background check before, and house rules that include no smoking (anywhere on the land), no shoes, no dinner parties greater than 12 people, and extra charges if you sleep more than 8. These were easy for us to comply with, but also added a level of "strictness" that is not common for VRBO-types of places ... at least for me.
Again, rules or not, it was worth it, and we'd do it again!
Hudson Valley Sanctuary
The Fels is a wonderful sanctuary. The posted pictures and list of amenities are accurate and speak for themselves and you truly feel that you have arrived at your own personal resort. We have stayed in several VRBOs and one of the things we deem most important is the accessibility and responsiveness of the owner. And Bud is fantastic. He is very easy to work with and responds to inquires quickly and efficiently. He provides an extremely helpful list of things to do, places to visit and eat. That is, if you want to leave the property at all. It is truly an impressive, unique location and with a magnificent view of the Hudson River. Go, relax, recharge your “batteries”, you will not be disappointed.
What a beautiful house!
My friends and I stayed at Bud’s gorgeous home over the 4th of July Holiday and we had an amazing time! Bud went above and beyond to make sure that everything was working and that we were comfortable and had all of the information we needed to fully enjoy the property. We had four adults and five small children and everyone had a blast! The terrace in the evenings was breathtaking and we never wanted to leave! We will absolutely be back next year!
Spectacular views, a convenient weekend retreat and getaway from New York City
Stunning views of the Hudson river and valley and an unbeatable location that is an easy drive from Manhattan. The house itself is superbly designed with spectacular views from all rooms. Bud is a very responsive host and stayed in touch with us throughout our stay. He even stopped by the home to show us how to operate the audio and video system. It was wonderful to experience and enjoy sunrise daily from the fabulous deck overlooking the river. The salt water pool, hot tub were perfect, and we spent hours at the game room in the lower floor and also on the tennis court adjacent to the front lawns. While we visited Rhinebeck and the Culinary Institute, we ended up skipping much of the other local highlights to enjoy our time at the house. It was a great stay and we look forward to coming back.soon. Thanks Bud.
Perfect backdrop and beautiful estate for college graduation stay!!
Bud, many thanks for loaning your beautiful home to us for such a wonderful occasion. It was definitely a 5 star estate and the view was breathtaking! Appreciate all the updates and helpful hints you provided as well. A family memory that will go on.Thanks again!! Jamie & Tom
An architectural masterpiece set in nature's most stunning creation. As magnificent as any European locale yet only 1.5 hours from NYC. One of the greatest estates built in the Hudson Valley in modern times. A private oasis constructed of the finest materials: Limestone, beechwood, electronic lighting controls & more. Its vistas are brought inside through floor-to-ceiling 10' operable glass throughout. Whether staring at the river with its leisurely ships floating by from every bedroom, the hot tub, the salt-water pool (seasonal) or the great room with its huge fireplace, you will enter a state of meditative relaxation never thought possible so close to Manhattan. The only house visible from the villa is FDR's Birthplace & Summer White House, now a national park and Presidential Library.
Dine (or take mini-courses) at the Culinary Institute of America, also visible across the river from the villa or any of the superb locally-sourced restaurants in the area or cook your own meal from ingredients bought at the world renown local farmer's markets.
Explore the Hudson Valley, with every imaginable site less than 45 minutes away - from antiquing to apple picking to Robber Baron mansions to skiing. Or stay at home and play tennis on the lighted court (seasonal), swim (seasonal), hike the grounds, entertain on the expansive deck, relax in the hot tub or one of the 3 Jacuzzis, 2 steam showers or 2-person real lava-rock sauna. Play ping pong, air hockey, play music, play video games, watch movies on a 10' high-definition screen. Stroll or sit in the private sculpture garden or do nothing at all & still feel like you've got it all.
There is ample parking on the grounds. The house is 10 minutes from the Poughkeepsie Train Station with service from NYC via Amtrak (1:20) & MetroNorth (1:50). It can be reached by car via I-87 or the Taconic Parkway. Ask the host for exact directions or use GPS. The property has been accessed by helicopter.
