About Aki and Laura Lintunen
We fell in love with the Big Island in 2000 and built Hale E Komo Mai in 2011. Now we are building new memories with our family, friends, and especially our grandchildren. We look forward to coming back to Hawaii each year while continuing to explore this vast and beautifully diverse island.
Aki and Laura Lintunen purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Aki and Laura Lintunen chose Hawaiian Paradise Park
We are excited to share our 'impractical dream' with you, with a relaxing home to return to after a full day of activities and exploring. You will be surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation and a peaceful neighborhood. We looked at many areas on the Big Island and chose Hawaiian Paradise Park for its acreage that provides quiet and privacy, while still being central to the ocean, trails, parks, restaurants and nearby shopping.
What makes this Cottage unique
A unique and modern property designed with covered walkways that connect all areas. Impressive lava rock columns, circular planter with seating, and an outstanding outdoor shower were all hand shaped by a local craftsman. The home maximizes light and captures the trade winds and breezes, with sweet scents drifting indoors from the professionally landscaped gardens. The home is comfortable for a couple or an additional two people. The grassed yard is great for the kids to play, to have a game of bocci ball or croquet, or to just relax on the lounge chairs while enjoying all the tropical trees, fruit trees and scented plants and flowers.

What a wonderful place to stay! My wife and I very much enjoyed the Guest Home , it was very well equipped with all the supplies we needed. The house seemed to have been recently built, everything was neat and clean and worked well. There was ample well furnished space, making it feel like a real home for the two of us, the living area would have served as a very comfortable second bedroom. I appreciated the covered walkway and outside lanai which was very convenient during the rain. Beach equipment was available for use as well as umbrellas. My favorite amenity was the spacious outdoor shower which was equipped with a high rain type shower head that made me feel I was standing in a warm rain.
Perfect guest house
I can not say enough good things about this property! On a quiet street with a beautiful yard to enjoy looking at while drinking morning coffee. Short drive into Hilo and about an hour drive to Volcanoes. House was extremely clean and was exactly as pictured. Would definately stay here again if we return to the Big Island!
Simply the best
This was surely the best accommodation we had on our Hawaii vacation - the house is beautiful, extremely clean and equipped with whatever you could imagine to have in a vacation house - both inside and outside. Additionality, the look, scent and sounds of the garden make this place even more unique. Last but least, the value for money is absolutely unbeatable comparing to other places we've visited on Hawaii islands.
"Exceeded our expectations"
My wife and stayed at Aki and Laura's Ohana for about two weeks. It really exceeded our expectations.
The house was modern and spotless. I love to cook and was glad to see that it had plenty of spices and cooking equipment. They also have a nice grill outside with a side burner.
The lanai was very cozy and it had comfortable outdoor loungers and patio furniture.
It was was situated at the end of a quiet country road. The neighborhood was a great place to walk our Golden Retriever. The yard was perfectly manicured with beautiful grass and fruiting tropical trees.
If you want a nice, clean quiet stay with in a twenty drive to Hilo, then you can't go wrong with this Hawaii getaway.
The guesthouse had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Good location and beautiful grounds.
The guest house was perfectly equipped for a couple.
We stayed at this upscale property for 2 1/2 months. Yes, the Big Island has a lot of rain but the good days are great...never hot at night so that is great for a good night's sleep. The Big Island has so many sightseeing prospects...don't miss the volcanoes, Kulani, Waimea and the Parker Ranch. Try to take the coastal drive from Hilo all the way to Hawi and don't miss the quaint Episcopalian churchin with oak altar from Sherwood Forest. The National Park at night overlooking spewing Kilauea. The warm baths at Akelanui (spelling?). If u r healthy an evening sojourn up to the volcano at 14,000 feet above sea level and the free telescopes at 9000 feet. I have been to Oahu twice and Maui three times. I would return to the Big Island especially if u aren't a beacher. Of course, there is always Kona for that...and don't miss the snorkeling at Captain Cooke cove...excellent coral and tropical fish. U might be lucky enough to see a mommy whale and baby and a school of spinner dolphins. I recommend Sea quest for this trip...worth the $$ per this old scuba diver! Renting a car, while pricey, worth it. Enjoy the adventure...oh...Hilo Bay Cafe... $$$ but definitely worth it! Aki and Laura were the best hosts!
This recently finished modern and luxurious home is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, which is a quiet, agriculturally zoned subdivision with over 100 miles of private road. The main roads are fully paved with most side roads comprised of compacted cinder, ideal for walking, running or cycling. There is about 4 miles of oceanfront with fantastic hiking on the trail abutting the ocean cliffs. Nearby towns of Pahoa (laid back) and Keaau (toward Hilo) offer many shopping amenities within a short drive; historical Hilo town and many restaurant options are only 12 miles away. A quiet country retreat yet close to amenities and conveniences. Explore the nearby hot ponds, Lava Tree State Park, Kapoho Tide Pools for fantastic snorkeling, and the scenic red road drive to the Kalapana lava area. Or, take the jaw-dropping Hamakua coastal drive, on the way to 'Kona side.'
