A perfect apartment in Cuenca
We have had the good fortune to rent this apartment twice. Perfectly located in old Cuenca and on the river, we have enjoyed the beautiful architecture, landscaping, views and great service.
Excellent choice and service
One could not make a better choice than to stay at Casas del Nogal.

Great vacation Rental in Cuenca
If you are looking for a vacation rental in Cuenca, and this property is available do not hesitate and book it. Great location very secure, quiet the only noise you will hear is the sound of the river flowing down. Close to supermarket, the open market, Parque Calderon, many restaurants, etc. Cecilia the property manager is very quick in responding to any issues if they arise. We truly enjoyed our stay at this apartment.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Riverfront condo. The condo was well appointed with nearly everything we needed for our month in Cuenca. With the exception of a dishwasher, the condo had all needed appliances, and all fairly modern and in good working condition. Baking dishes and serving dishes, pots and pans, plates, glasses, silverware, coffee pots, toasters, etc. were all there. The furniture and bedding were very comfortable and much appreciated after a long day of walking the city.
The location of the condo is hard to beat. Located on the Tomebamba River, the view of the river and "new town", were nice. Access out the front of the building to Calle Larga, one of the main streets of 'Old Town" made walking easy to any location we needed, wanted to do or to see. The riverwalk out the back of the condo was a great place to stroll and to find places to eat or drink. Cabs were easily available if needed, and cheap.
The manager, Cecilia, was wonderful. She greeted us when we arrived and showed us the condo. She provided us with a very helpful owners book full of recommendations. She was always available by email to answer any questions we had.
We will definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity to visit Cuenca again. We will happily recommend the condo to any friends who wish help in planning a trip to Cuenca.
Tied for first place based on 10 different homes in 10 countries
My wife and I spend two to three months each winter in a different city in a different country. We are retired in our early 70's and focus on one city per trip.
We have learned by hard experience what is important in a multi-month stay. The first major element is the commitment of the landlord and support staff. Terry, Cecilia and Angelita are outstanding. Terry was always prompt in replying to our emails, Cecilia was always available to respond to our questions and help with problems, and Angelita could be counted upon to leave the space immaculate.
The accommodations were first rate. We especially appreciated the kitchen as it was stocked with all the necessary tools which is not that common in our experience. The bedrooms upstairs had queen beds that were comfortable, both bathrooms had walk in showers, the master bedroom had a floor to ceiling window that looked out over the city and the Tomebamba River. There is a washer and dryer off the upstairs terrace. A washer/dryer are critical for a long term stay.
Downstairs the living room furniture was some of the most conformable we have experienced with good lighting for reading. There is a floor to ceiling window that overlooks the city and the river. There is a very nice four place patio set on the downstairs terrace over looking the very well-groomed grounds.
The apartment is very conveniently located. The Tia market is just up the street across from the very large covered local vendors market. The central plaza, Calderon Park is an easy 10 minute walk. Along the way you pass plaza San Francisco, the newly rejuvenated plaza, and the Plaza de las Flores, the flower market. Along Calle Larga and sides streets are numerous restaurants and cafes. All very convenient. The very large Supermaxi supermarket is an easy 15 walk, along the river and through the Parque de la Madre. If you decide to take a taxi to the most distant city venue, we never paid more than a $3 taxi fee.
Other considerations: One enters on the street level, walks back past two interior gardens to the 16 steps up to the front door and main level of the apartment. It is another 16 steps up to the bedroom floor. There is a rear gate down at the river walk that is accessed by a set to steps and terraces. Although there is some city noise, it is not that big a deal. The jasmine vines around the grounds are very fragrant.
Conclusion: Tied for first place based on 10 different homes in 10 cities around the world
Thanks so much for the wonderful and most thorough review my condo in Cuenca, Ecuador has received and for ranking us 1st in your 10 cities of the world. You know what you want and what makes a great place to stay. Traveling to one city at a time is a very smart way to travel, especially if you're at a place in your life where some tranquility is desired - I completely understand.
My wife and I designed the place so that we could enjoy Cuenca ourselves and are really happy when someone else takes the time to write up an accurate and complete review. Thanks again!
Too many features to list for Cuenca and it is well known as one of the top if not the top retirement center in the world. UNESCO world heritage city, National Geographic's best flower market in the world, International Living's no. 1 retirement center, featured on countless websites and news services.

Why Terry Doyle chose San Blas
We first came to Cuenca on a trip to Ecuador (Galapagos, Amazon Rainforest, Highlands and Cuenca) in 2007. We stayed with the developer's family in 2009 in their apartment building just down the street from where we are now. At the end of that time, we asked to be kept up to date on new developments, especially on the barranca or river valley of the Tomebamba. In 2014 we got an email from the developer's wife, saying there was this place on Calle Larga and were we interested? Yes indeed! We expressed our interest with an offer on one of the few remaining apartment (the developer had been featured in the New York Times for the Juan Jaramillo apartment/remodel). Offer accepted and we are here. It was more work finding furnishings and everything to live with in Cuenca, but I think, when you see our place, you'll say it was worth it.
What makes this Apartment unique
Cuenca is unlike any other city and Ecuador, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is unlike any other country (in our experience of 50+ countries). Great climate, wonderful restaurants, beautiful walks along safe streets and the river just behind our apartment and nice Ecuadorean people. 'Nuf said.
