About this property
Kestrel Perch - Boise Hilltop Retreat
Named after the smallest of North American falcons, which nest in nearby trees, "Kestrel's Perch" was recently reimagined - from the bottom up - in the spirit of a comfortable mid-century hilltop retreat, emphasizing the property's spectacular views of the Valley, private setting and access to the surrounding amenities of northwest Boise.
The 1000 sq ft home features a large master bedroom, 2nd bedroom (also nicely suitable as office), well-lit kitchen/living room and italian-tiled bathroom.
The Space
Deirdre and I spent almost six months renovating "Kestrel's Perch", making design and layout choices that, we hope, will make for a truly special travel experience for our guests. The result is a crisp, clean, uncluttered space that's been accentuated by furniture choices and features that enhance the comfort and natural appeal of "The Perch's" hilltop setting. It's definitely not a stretch to use the cliched phrase "one-of-a-kind" property to describe the Kestrel's Perch.
The 1000 sq. ft. home features a large master bedroom, second bedroom with captain's bunk-style queen bed (also nicely suitable as an office), well-lit kitchen/living room and italian-tiled bathroom. The kitchen is fully outfitted with new stainless-steel appliances, quartz countertops and spacious white cabinets.
Our guests who find themselves in Boise on a business venture will be pleased to note the wall-to-wall, built-in desk (with drawers) in the second bedroom, should the lovely terrace prove to be too much of an indulgent distraction.
In addition to plenty of closet space, the large utility room (with new washer/dryer) may also be used to store bikes, skis or other gear securely.
An ample carport will keep you and your vehicle dry and cool, in the case of inclement or unseasonably hot weather.
In addition to all the basic amenities, Kestrel's Perch also comes equipped with: - small kitchen appliances such as juicer, bullet blender, food processor, crock pot and coffee grinder - two 50" HD televisions, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom - covered backyard patio - outdoor table/seating for four - garden benches - large Weber BBQ
Guest Access
A large carport provides a nice dry environment to the front entry of "The Perch". Guests will be provided with a unique code to keypad-enabled deadbolt on the front door. Backdoor and Utility Room also have separate access ways.
The Neighborhood
Just off the northend foothills travel corridor of Hill Road, the home's location is a convenient headquarters to access to shopping (5 min), downtown (10 min), Boise's "Ridge To Rivers" system (Stewart Gulch trailhead is 1/2 mile away @ Hillside Jr. High) or Hwy 55 for longer excursions north to recreational towns like Garden Valley or McCall.

Kestrel Perch was an oasis on our trip. It was super relaxing and we especially appreciated the use of non-toxic/scented soaps and cleaning products. We would definitely stay there again.
We’ve been a few times and will return again , it’s the most calming place to just relax and read books. We feel so at home here. Thank you so much Jerry and trish
Perfect getaway from our Canadian winter. Private back yard, surrounded by trees, with wonderful views of the mountains and city, and comfy seating areas. We enjoyed watching the squirrels, quails, and kestrels. Very well fenced, had no worries about our little dogs escaping and they loved the multi-levels. The house was immaculate and had everything we needed for our three week stay. Beds were super comfy and cozy. We loved the Boise area with so many hiking and trail areas, loads of golf courses, great restaurants, and all the other attractions, too many to list — kept us busy the whole stay. Neighbors were very friendly and helpful and made the stay even more special.
We had a great time during our stay. The house was exactly what we were looking for during our trip to Boise. Far enough out of town to unwind and relax but within minutes to downtown and other locations we visited. Overall great experience.
We got this rental as it was close to our wedding venue, and it couldn’t have been better. The hosts provided us with everything we needed, was very communicative, and you can’t beat the views or the home. We would 10/10 recommend anyone stay here.
This was a clean and comfortable stay in the Boise foothills. Easy access to everywhere you need and the views can’t be beat. The kitchen is well appointed and the bed was very comfortable.
We enjoyed our stay here. It’s very peaceful and quiet with a good view. We saw a deer in the yard yesterday morning and lots of singing birds. Very comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
After a simple snafu with the computer pdf, all was great! Host was super friendly and gave us a nice summary of the place! Highly recommended when going to Boise. We would definitely stay again!
Simply gorgeous, what a great place. We wanted to come back for my birthday June 15th but it’s so popular, that’s great. Thanks for having us. It’s beautiful
The house was great! Met all of our needs. It was quiet, clean, and easy to get to.

Born in southern California and having grown up in Malibu, I've traipsed across much of the west, including Humboldt County (CA), Big Cottonwood Cyn (UT), Iliamna (AK) and coastal Oregon before setting roots for the last 20+ years in Boise.
I worked as a fisheries biologist, here in Idaho, before founding and managing the Treasure Valley's only community radio station, Radio Boise (tune in to 89.9 or 93.5 fm when you're in town!). I also worked for a media start-up, and now work for Idaho Conservation League.
Deirdre is now retired after 29 years as a 5th grade teacher, near the mountain town of McCall - 2 hours north of Boise. Our two girls are attending college, here in Idaho and in Utah.
We love to spend time sharing our love and respect of the outdoors and feel SO blessed to be living amongst the incredible beauty of Idaho.
Why they chose this property
Quiet, secluded, mountain top view of the valley makes you feel much further from the hustle - but you're only 10 minutes from downtown.
