Vicopisano was bellissimo!!

  • 4 of 5

What can we say? We absolutely loved joining the wonderful little community of Vicopisano for 5 days! The village feel is so authentic and charming, we loved everything about it.

Marie was a fabulous host and went out of her way to ensure we were informed and comfortable upon arrival. I've never stayed somewhere that had so much helpful information on hand! She had books of tips and guides for everything.

The apartment itself is lovely, spread over three floors: ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen & dining and a small toilet, first floor is a comfy lounge and a large bedroom with bathroom up the hall, and top floor is 2 further large bedrooms, both with ensuites. Every possible amenity was on hand - we wanted for nothing, even down to shower soaps, dishwasher tabs and laundry powder. A very well decked out apartment that we enjoyed immensely. Our only issue was the heat and the apartment not having air conditioning, which meant (particularly for the top floor) that it was hot for sleeping, but we used the fans and it was okay. If there is some way that even a portable AC could be used on that top floor I'd have given it 5 stars, as everything else was wonderful.

A wander through the village was a daily necessity, even if it was just pre-dinner drink 50m up the road at the little 'hole in the wall' bar, or a little further in the town square. I mean, seriously, E9.50 for 2 Aperol spritz's, a beer and a fruit juice?!?! Insane! To slip into the life of a local was so enjoyable, to fossick in the supermarket & bakery, the butcher shop was amazing, fetching fresh water from the fountain at the end of the street... everything was just brilliant. The little paths up by the tower were a delight, particularly for our 8yo on her permanent quest to find gato's!!

Our favourite restaurant (by far) was Hosteria Enoteca La Divina Commedia del Gusto... recommended by Marie upon arrival, and she even called and booked for us on our first night. What a delightful restaurant, and the staff so helpful and lovely. I even had a stool provided for my bag to sit on!! Amazing food and service. We booked there and then for our final night in Vicopisano. We also drove to Buti one night for dinner at La Grotta - super-cheap and delicious food, all served by the most fun mama we encountered in Italy!

Day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio (enormous beach!) and our favourite, Volterra, were superb. We'll long remember our stay in Vicopisano...

Owner's Response: Dear Julia, Thank you so much for giving us such a great and informative review, Feedback from our guests is always most appreciated as it helps us to continue doing the right things to ensure our guests have a great stay. in addition, feedback also informs our future guests of what to expect when they arrive. It was wonderful to hear that you appreciated how well equipped you found the property but we regret that you found that the upper levels of the house too hot despite the fact that we provide fans for every room. I know I did mention to you at the time, it’s a difficult balance installing air conditioning into these Medieval buildings situated in the historic centre. The main reason is planning permission because it is not permitted to put refrigeration units onto the ancient stone walls. Usually the thick walls keep the buildings nice and cool but this year we had an exceptionally hot summer and we very much understand why air conditioning would have been appreciated. Despite the heat it was great to hear that you had such a good time discovering Vicopisano and the wider region of Tuscany. We are so pleased that you loved everything we have prepared for you and that you appreciated our concierge services and recommendations. We thank you for taking time to write this review and we do hope you will come back to Vicopisano and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future With Warmest Regards, Marie and Lorenzo

Great base for exploring Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time. Our party of five was very comfortable in this lovely house - with everything we needed. It was a great base for exploring. We drove to Lucca, took the local bus to Pisa and took the train to Florence.

Marie and Lorenzo were very attentive, helpful and friendly, providing lots of useful information about the house and the area - and answering all our questions. They really made sure that our holiday went well.

We loved Vicopisano - lovely small town with bars, restaurants, shops etc just a five minute walk from the house. The people were so friendly and helpful - which was great as we had next to no Italian! We also found the prices so much cheaper there than when we visited the 'big' tourist destinations. We were very glad we stayed outside Florence and just travelled in to see it - it would have been a completely different experience to stay in the city (and a lot more expensive!) You are best to have a car with you as completely relying on the local public transport would be difficult.

We would highly recommend Vicopisano for a holiday if you want to see some of Tuscany - and would definitely recommend this property. Many thanks to Marie and Lorenzo and we hope to be back sometime!
