About this property
Shelby House/East Nashville/Fur Babies Welcome
Mid-Century Brick Ranch - simple and efficient. What more can I say - I love this house and this location. Each of the three private bedrooms has a queen sized, comfortable, double sheeted bed and room for all your stuff. Everybody shares the bathroom but surprisingly this works better than you would think. Wireless internet will keep you connected, cable TV can keep you informed. Central heat and air will keep you comfortable. Starter supplies like paper towels, soap and TP are also stocked. Other standard amenities include a washer and dryer, full sized kitchen, stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator and dishwasher. The kitchen table is unique. A local metal artist made the boomerang and it seats 4. Out back there is an enclosed porch, casual dining table for 4, and a charcoal grill on the flagstone patio.
Your furry, 4 legged family members are welcome. We do allow pets with their proper supervision. There is a doggie door in the laundry room that leads out into the fenced yard. It has a big tree with squirrels. Just up the street is the Shelby Dog Park. We do ask that pets be crated when left alone in the home.
About 1.5 miles down the street is the eastern edge of the Cumberland River and the Shelby Avenue pedestrian bridge. Parking here is sometimes free and you can walk over the bridge into the Lower Broadway area. This is where you will find the Country Music Hall of Fame, honky tonks like Tootsies and Legends, the Hatch Show Print store, Music City Center, Wildhorse Saloon and much more.
Within walking distance is the Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park. It is one of the true jewels of Metro’s Park and Greenway system. This 810 acre park offers 5 miles of paved multi-use trails and another 5 miles of primitive hiking trails. Along the trails, visitors can enjoy boardwalks, scenic overlooks, interpretive stations and seven rustic bridges. The area is well known as a haven for migrating birds and other wildlife.
Shelby House, established 2006, makes it East Nashville’s first “VRBO” and Nashville Neighbors grew from there. When we set this house up in May of that year our realtor Maggie questioned the feasibility. “Who would want to come to Nashville and stay in a house in East Nashville?” The Times They Are A-Changin’.

2nd stay at Shelby House! We love the location, the home and all of the conveniences it affords. Two of my daughters and I traveled from Texas to visit my other daughter that lives in Nashville. Looking forward to returning to Shelby House in a few months!
Excellent location, nicely stocked, very quaint, fun decor. Loved the welcome, sign, very nice touch! Thank you so much for letting us stay! Perfect for the dog!!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy a fun weekend. Great coffee shop, restaurants & eclectic shops within walking distance. We were able to bring our pups & the fenced in yard was perfect.
Home is clean and well equipped, we had everything we needed. We were grateful they allowed our 3 poodles. The location is ideal, near downtown, the Nissan stadium, Germantown. We had a great time!
We had an amazing 4 day and 3 night stay on Shelby lane with easy access to our destinations and local food and entertainment. This location is in a very safe neighborhood with a lot of character. The park is walking distance from the home and one of the best parks I have been to. The host were welcoming and allowed us to even check in a few hours early.
Small but well equipped house. Only 2.4 miles from Broadway. Anything you need is close by on Gallaten Pk. Good size yard for me and my dog to play in. Its a little dated, but has everything you need. I would stay here again. Expensive in Canadian dolkars though: not the hosts' fault. Check out Urban Cowboy bar at Woodland and 16th
My husband, me, and our four-legged companion really enjoyed Shelby house. The house was as stated on the website. I really liked the eclectic decor. It fit perfectly with the style of the house. It was the perfect size for us and our dog. Enjoyed the proximity to downtown. The park at the end of the street was an added bonus for us to take the dog for nice long walks. Overall it was the perfect spot for us. Liked that the backyard was fenced in. Thank you for providing such a nice vacation home.
I booked this property for a client of ours and her family. They had some insurance repairs going on in their home that prevented them from living there while repairs were going on. My client had no complaints or issues at all during their stay. I worked out to be a great fit for their needs. This host was great to work with and very helpful. We would recommend them.

Great for a girlfriend getaway!
This house was perfect for our girlfriend getaway! The outside of the house isn't as cute as a lot of the newly refurbished houses in the neighborhood, but once we entered we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was very clean and comfortable. This was so much better than hotel rooms because we could all be together. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. It was a quick five to ten minute drive to downtown and to visit a student at Vanderbilt. The next door neighbors were very nice and friendly too. We definitely plan to return.

It is good to hear you had a fun time in Nashville. I'm glad you got to meet the neighbors. I believe part of what sets renting a home - in a residential neighborhood - apart from a hotel, is that short moment of community connection. Live like a local, even if only a brief time. Thanks again - Stephanie

Port in the Storm
We arrived at Shelby House after evacuating Florida for Hurricane Irma. It was wonderful! Especially for our 2 fur babies. It's not always easy to find a place that will take you with 2 dogs. The house was the perfect size for us, the yard was perfect for the dogs. Kitchen was completely stocked with utensils, etc for us as we preferred to stay in most of the time. The house is conveniently located to almost anything you need to see in Nashville. When we return to the area, we surely will check to see if Shelby House is available!

MaryAnne, thank you for the nice review. We have always welcomed travelers who "don't' leave home without them". I'm sure it was stressful all around and I'm glad we could do our part. Bryan and Stephanie - Nashville Neighbors
Little house with enough room for some personal space
Overall just what we needed. Kids had their own rooms to decompress in. Could have used a bit more living room seating. Couldnt really use the screened in porch, there was no lighting out there or in the back yard. Seemed liie the hot water didn't get very hot & didnt last very long

Perfect location
Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but close enough that an you can jump in your car and be there in 10 minutes, Shelby House is the perfect location for a Nashville vacation. We used Uber a lot and did not pay more than $6 or $7 a ride. East Nashville is a funky and fun area and we found some great bars and restaurants in Five Points, which is just a 15 minute walk away. There is a great coffee house just a five minute walk from the house, and we loved Shelby Park and its dog park. The house itself has many plusses: extremely comfortable beds, fenced in back yard for the dog, off-street parking, and a full kitchen. As one reviewer said, there are some inexpensive improvements that could be made for short money. The shower is in desperate need of a new shower head and the tub fixtures are broken, making it hard to turn the cold water off. The screen on the back porch is torn terribly and the kitchen was short on some essential supplies. Overall, Shelby House was a comfortable home to stay in and the location can not be beat.

Glad you enjoyed your Nashville stay. Thank you for the shower report. Yes, we replaced the shower head - the very next day. The cold water shut off is quirky. We took it apart and it works okay until we can get more time to fix it right. Accepting dogs is hard on the screen door. It is tattered and admittedly looks pretty bad. I also looked around the kitchen and couldn't find any essential supplies missing. Glasses are in 2 different cupboards and may get missed by some.
Sleeps 6 but only living room TV was a bummer since there isn't enough living room furniture to accommodate 6 people. Made it work but wished we had blow up furniture or something. Location was great. Not even 2 miles from downtown.
We had a great experience staying here. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. Being able to bring our pets was such a bonus, and the fenced in back yard was perfect for them. The location is excellent — walkable to many restaurants, shops, and the greenway. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed our stay, plenty of space in the house. Very easy to come and go. Or favorite parts were the huge backyard and comfortable rooms. Couple areas need a little updating, but everything is clean and no complaints!
I stayed with my 2 dogs while working and looking for permanent housing. The house was perfect and the dogs loved the yard. It’s also really close to a wonderful dog park. The location is convenient to both east and west Nashville.
We had a great time staying here, our dog and the kids loved the back yard space and there’s a great park just a short walk away!! Close to downtown, nice neighborhood, clean house. Would stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Bryan and Stephanie
Bryan and I have been innkeepers for over 20 years now. We came by this profession quite by chance as part of a grand New Year’s resolution at the turn of the century. We bought a small motel and vacation cottages in northern California. It was rewarding to take this humble project to its full potential. In 2006 an offer that we couldn’t refuse came along so it was time to reshape our future again.
Prior to our midlife crisis Bryan was a civil engineer and I was the mom. As it turns out these are great prerequisites for inn keeping.
How and why we picked Nashville as our vacation destination of choice is a long story. Visit Nashville too and maybe you may never leave.
Why they chose this property
The sign near our house in California reads - “Cromberg, population 140”. Since we live in a sleepy mountain community, vacationing to busy cities seems normal.
Family history research might be the first reason we landed in Nashville. Many of our early ancestor’s roots started in Kentucky and Tennessee so we vacationed here. As a practical starting point, Nashville is well centered to explore most of the eastern United States.
The rich cultural diversity and true Southern hospitality in Nashville will have you sipping sweet tea and asking “How you’ all doing this evening” in no time. Welcome and enjoy your stay.
What makes this property unique
All of our vacation homes are truly located in Nashville, just a couple of miles to the Lower Broadway entertainment area.
