Shelby House, established 2006, makes it East Nashville’s first “VRBO” and Nashville Neighbors grew from there. When we set this house up in May of that year our realtor Maggie questioned the feasibility. “Who would want to come to Nashville and stay in a house in East Nashville?” The Times They Are A-Changin’. We are now Metro permitted as a Short Term Rental property.

Mid-Century Brick Ranch - simple and efficient. What more can I say - I love this house and this location. Each of the three private bedrooms has a queen sized, comfortable, double sheeted bed and room for all your stuff. Everybody shares the bathroom but surprisingly this works better than you would think. Wireless internet will keep you connected, cable TV can keep you informed.  Central heat and air will keep you comfortable.  Starter supplies like paper towels, soap and TP are also stocked.  Other standard amenities include a washer and dryer, full sized kitchen, stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator and dishwasher. The kitchen table is unique. A local metal artist made the boomerang and it seats 4. Out back there is an enclosed porch, casual dining table for 4, and a charcoal grill on the flagstone patio.

Your furry, 4 legged family members are welcome. We do allow pets with their proper supervision. There is a doggie door in the laundry room that leads out into the fenced yard. It has a big tree with squirrels. Just up the street is the Shelby Dog Park. We do ask that pets be crated when left alone in the home.

About 1.5 miles down the street is the eastern edge of the Cumberland River and the Shelby Avenue pedestrian bridge. Parking here is free and you can walk over the bridge into the Lower Broadway area. Once downtown there are other options for transportation including the free Music City Circuit green bus. This is where you will find the Country Music Hall of Fame, honky tonks like Tootsies and Legends, the Hatch Show Print store, Music City Center, Wildhorse Saloon and much more.

Within walking distance is the Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park. It is one of the true jewels of Metro’s Park and Greenway system. This 810 acre park offers 5 miles of paved multi-use trails and another 5 miles of primitive hiking trails. Along the trails, visitors can enjoy boardwalks, scenic overlooks, interpretive stations and seven rustic bridges. The area is well known as a haven for migrating birds and other wildlife.

wonderful stay!

The Shelby House was so accommodating and conveniently located to Downtown Nashville. It was only about a 10 minute drive in. The AC worked wonderfully and kept us cool through the warm weather. The rooms were very roomy and the beds were spectacularly comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with anything you might need to cook a yummy meal. I will definitely book the Shelby House again when I return to Nashville.

Port in the Storm

We arrived at Shelby House after evacuating Florida for Hurricane Irma. It was wonderful! Especially for our 2 fur babies. It's not always easy to find a place that will take you with 2 dogs. The house was the perfect size for us, the yard was perfect for the dogs. Kitchen was completely stocked with utensils, etc for us as we preferred to stay in most of the time. The house is conveniently located to almost anything you need to see in Nashville. When we return to the area, we surely will check to see if Shelby House is available!

Great Getaway for Fur Babies and Grown Children

Great location close enough to go partying on Broadway or for staying close in the funky East Nashville community. Great back yard for the puppies and family.

I have traveled to Nashville every year for the past 8, and always try to book one of the great houses from Nashville Neighbors. Shelby House is my favorite due to location, but Riverside, Willow Springs, and Camp Maplewood are all excellent also!

I would highly recommend booking through Bryan and Steph of Nashville Neighbors. Their homes are lovely, comfortable, affordable, and close to all Nashville attractions!

Nashville to see the Timejumpers

Hello, we were 3 couples that came to Nashville to see The Timejumpers and friends, at the Ryman Auditorium, for a benefit concert . This was our second stay at Shelby house. It was great, just like last time. The house is very well maintained and clean. The house is a short Uber ride from downtown, very convenient. There's even a Kroger(grocery) close by. We all found our beds to be very comfortable, nicely decorated bedrooms. The power strips in each bedroom were a real help, it allowed us to be able to charge all our phones ,laptops, etc. There's a nice big tv in the living room. The only issue we had was the oven didn't work, no matter what we couldn't get it to come on. We really enjoy sitting out back in the yard, the back yard is so nice and big, there's a small patio, it would be nice if there was outdoor seating and maybe a firepit. There is a table and 4 chairs on the enclosed porch out back. Bryan and Stephanie are the nicest hosts ever. We actually got to meet them last time we stayed there, we all had tickets to see The Timejumpers at 3rd and Lindsley. Very helpful, answered e-mails right away. We will definately stay here the next time we come to Nashville.

I only gave it 4 stars because of the issues with the oven, we like to cook and eat in, and it was disappointing to not have an oven.

Riverside house

We found house to be adequate for our stay. I saw a review from 2013 stating bathroom was in need of a serious update. Owner stated they were going to work on it real soon. It's 2 years later and apparently 2 years is not soon. That said, the location is very good 20 minutes or less to downtown and 20 minutes to Opryland. I would stay there again.

Owner's Response: The previous comments about a bathroom issue were referring to a different home. That bathroom did get a paint job 2 years ago. The vintage tile bathroom at Riverside Drive has never received any concerning comments. This guest did not express any specific concerns or problems during their stay. It was clear that their pets had a good vacation. We are happy to provide a pet friendly home at no additional cost. Bing maps shows Riverside Drive to be anywhere between 4 and 5 miles to the Lower Broadway area. Depending on how you drive, this might take 20 minutes? We usually advise guests to check out the free parking on the east side of the Cumberland River and walk across the beautiful Shelby Pedestrian Bridge into downtown.

About Bryan and Stephanie

Bryan and I have been innkeepers for over 15 years now. We came by this profession quite by chance as part of a grand New Year’s resolution at the turn of the century. We bought a small motel and vacation cottages in northern California. It was rewarding to take this humble project to its full potential. In 2006 an offer that we couldn’t refuse came along so it was time to reshape our future again.

Prior to our midlife crisis Bryan was a civil engineer and I was the mom. As it turns out these are great prerequisites for inn keeping.

How and why we picked Nashville as our vacation destination of choice is a long story. Visit Nashville too and maybe you will feel the attraction.

The sign near our house in California reads - “Cromberg, population 140”. Since we live in a sleepy mountain community, vacationing to busy cities seems normal.

Family history research might be the first reason we landed in Nashville. Many of our early ancestor’s roots started in Kentucky and Tennessee so we vacationed here. As a practical starting point, Nashville is well centered to explore most of the eastern United States.

The rich cultural diversity and true Southern hospitality in Nashville will have you sipping sweet tea and asking “How you’ all doing this evening” in no time. Welcome and enjoy your stay.
