The Victorian Secret - St. Peter House - Downtown, Entire House! New Reno!

Sitting in the heart of downtown New Iberia, this beautiful, historic Victorian home was built in 1897. It has three bedrooms, and will easily sleep eight people with two queen beds, two twin beds, and a queen sized sleeper sofa. It also has a full kitchen, a separate dining area with seating for six, and music room/parlor. We invite you to enjoy the sounds of New Iberia while enjoying coffee on the front porch or playing the antique piano in the music room.

Situated next door to St. Peter's Catholic Church and three blocks away from the historic Shadows on the Teche, this house is steps away from everything downtown New Iberia has to offer -- festivals, dining, shopping, coffee, nightlife, and even parades. It is also a short drive away from Avery Island, Jefferson Island, and all the beauty that surrounds Acadiana.

If you're visiting New Iberia for a wedding, class reunion, the Sugar Cane Festival, the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff, or just a weekend getaway, we invite you to enjoy the convenience of our home. Special weekly and monthly rates are available upon request. Please note that the rental is for the downstairs unit only.

Super easy check in and check out. Plenty of towels and such. Only issue we had was there is a train that runs through the back yard a block away, with all uncontrolled intersections, it blows its horns at ever block, all day, everyday, until about 2AM. Then the church bells accross the street start chiming around 6:30AM.

Needs Better Functionality

The property is super clean and the host is very responsive to questions and immediate concerns. There was plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, shampoos/conditioners, bath wash, laundry products, and cleaning supplies. The new bathroom/laundry room was nicely lit with a good shower and pleasant decor. While the property is very convenient to Main Street restaurants/shops, it is also quite noisy (noise from the close street traffic, from the bar around the corner, and from frequent trains that whistle and whistle, from the fan in the bathroom with a tub which is so noisy it sounds like a plane taking off). The property sleeps 8, but does not function well for more than 4 people. For example, there is not a sitting/living area where more than 4 people can gather at one time to talk or watch TV.; there were only 4 forks, 3 white wine glasses, 2 red wine glasses; also the tub in the bathroom without a shower was not used by anyone because of the noise and poor lighting, so coordinating shower time was an issue). Lighting in the bathroom with a tub was so poor you could not put on makeup there (only a dim ceiling light). There were no reading lights by any of the beds. The house has a pleasant "staying at grandma's" feel to it, but it needs less big pieces of furniture and less space taken up by bedding, decorative items, and items that have been left behind as renovation projects were completed AND more space for guests to gather and store their belongings.

Wedding weekend

We stayed the weekend for my daughter’s wedding. The house was perfect and a quick walk to the venue. Her pictures taken in front of the house came out beautifully.

Perfect Girls’ Getaway

Our group of ladies thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the St. Peter House. This beautiful Victorian home has been renovated nicely, providing all the amenities our group needed. The location was perfect for us as we explored all New Iberia and its surrounding areas has to offer. The hosts were extremely kind and easy to communicate with. We would definitely return if we return to the area.

Wedding stay

Rented the house to get ready for our wedding with my groomsmen, great place to take pictures and just across the street from the church. Then me and the wife stayed there that night. Was a cute little house everything was nice and clean!

Family Thanksgiving

We rented this home for out of state family visiting for Thanksgiving . Accommodations fit their family perfectly .The location gave them easy access to downtown . The train whistle took a little getting used to . They would highly recommend this VRBO .

Awesome !!

The house is beautiful & well maintained. It had everything we needed and even more. The owners are easy to reach & give us restaurant suggestion for breakfast which was greatly appreciated. Due to the location close to the road & the train tracks it is a little noisy but it isn’t disturbing at all Overall our stay was fabulous, ‘’Laisser le bon temps rouler’’

Nostalgic

We LOVED the quaintness of a 19th century home and the location was great for area activities/meals. The house is better stocked than any other I’ve rented before. Especially waking up the first morning and there were coffee products available!! Score = Perfect 10!! The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for several more guests. The only cons were the front bedroom is extremely bright, noisy from passing traffic and passing trains blow their horns in the middle of the night. However, that being said, the owners provide noise machines in each room and they work fantastic. None of that would deter me as I would definitely rent this home again!

Fun visit to the old south

We came down to spend a couple days in Louisiana. The house was convenient, easy to find and perfect for our group. Had everything we needed and it’s definitely in the heart of Cajun country.

We had a great stay at a historic property

We found ourselves in the heart of downtown New Iberia. We could not have had a better location to have as home base. Within walking distance of shops and vendors and no more than half an hour away from swamp tours and Avery Island. The property owners were very friendly and very welcoming. Overall would make the trip again, thanks for a great stay.

Cute house, noisy location

So the house was good, we liked where it was located in that it was close to down town. New Iberia city park is amazing, you must visit . There’s cool restaurants and shopping. But it’s 30 yards from a train that runs all night and since there’s no crossing guards at the tracks, they blare that horn non stop. Especially between 3-4 am The church about 70 yards away has a bell tower that goes off each hour. For some reason , at 6 am it just starts dinging, and not 6 times to let you know the time. It’s the towns alarm clock I guess and it will ding 20 times. Between 6 and 7 am I’d estimate at least 40 dings The house is on a major street and you will also hear thump thump thump of steroes and people gunning their engine I feel like the noise should be mentioned prominently in the listing as it can be problematic for families with small kids and frankly, anyone with ears There’s also an exhaust fan in one bathroom that’s so loud you won’t want to use the light in there I’m conflicted writing this review, the house is cool, its proximity to the things to do in town is cool. And the nightly rate is great. But dang, I need a nap

Good location

Authentic old house. Slept everyone perfectly. We loved it. Our only complaint was the very loud exhaust fan in the front bathroom. We all avoided using that one unless absolutely necessary.
